Will the North Korea Summit be Delayed?
However, one South Korean official says the summit will go on as scheduled.
The last time we took a look at the Korean peninsula, North Korea abruptly ended discussions with South Korea and is threatening to cancel the upcoming summit with the United States.
It may be the fact that Kim read President Trump’s “Art of the Deal”, or Kim is just following the historic pattern of his dictatorial ancestors, but this is a tactic that has been anticipated by Trump and South Korea’s President Moon Jae-in. The response will come as no surprise to those who follow our negotiating Commander-in-Chief: Trump has signaled that he doesn’t need to rush in for a peace summit.
US President Donald Trump has said there is a “very substantial chance” a historic summit with North Korea’s Kim Jong-un next month may not happen.
He said the North must meet conditions for the summit to go ahead though if it did not, it might happen “later”.
…The North has said it may cancel the summit if the US insists on it giving up nuclear weapons unilaterally.
Mr Trump did not say what conditions the US had set for the summit but, asked by a reporter about the North’s arsenal, he said “denuclearisation must take place”.
One of the news publications I like to follow for news in his region is the South China Morning Post, recommended to me by my step-daughter who works in China. The publication covers President Trump without the disdain, mocking, or distortions of the American press. Interestingly, their report indicates that one of the top South Korean officials believe the Singapore summit will happen.
At the White House with Moon, Trump said he would like to hear the South Korean president’s “different opinion” on Kim’s recent meeting with Xi. After this was translated, Trump went on to say: “I don’t want to get him in trouble. He lives right next to China, you know, he’s not too far away.”
Earlier in the day, Chung Eui-yong, South Korea’s national security adviser, expressed optimism about the continued prospects for the meeting, telling reporters during the flight to Washington, “We believe there is a 99.9 per cent chance the North Korea-US summit will be held as scheduled.”
“But we’re just preparing for many different possibilities,” the South Korean Yonhap news agency quoted Chung as saying.
It is now being revealed that Kim isn’t worried about going to the summit because of Trump, China, or South Korea. Kim is fearful of being a victim of a coup.
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is reportedly anxious about the planned summit with President Donald Trump in Singapore next month, The Washington Post reported Tuesday, citing sources familiar with the preparations.
According to the report, Kim is less concerned about meeting Trump than he is about what might happen at home in Pyongyang while he’s gone.
Kim is purportedly concerned that the trip to Singapore may leave his regime vulnerable to a military coup or that other hostile actors might try to depose him, sources told The Post. The Kim dynasty has ruled North Korea since its inception following the end of the Korean War in 1953.
These remarks by Trump, made during his meeting with Moon, make sense in that context:
Trump also made some promises to the North Korean leader Tuesday.
“He will be safe, he will be happy, his country will be rich,” Trump said. “Kim will be extremely happy if it works out.”
Kim might be happy if the summit goes on as planned and an agreement is reached, but the American press will likely delve deeper into Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Can you imagine the elation from the left if the summit is called off.
Why? Because Trump and his sycophants declared victory before accomplishing anything? Because Trump belittled those who tried before him?
They will meet. Nothing much will be accomplished, but Trump will declare it a Great, great, & historic meeting. You will be elated and sneer at those who yawn.
POTUS has racked up a YUGE number of successes.
Kim knows a fearless honest broker when he see one.
and now, once a #NeverTrump publication wants an end to the farce known as ‘The Mueller Investigation’.

The early righteousness of the anti-Trump lynch-mob has been deflated.
It is now clear that Russian attempts at interference in the 2016 election, though somewhat outrageous, were ineffectual, unconnected with any particular party, a small effort given what a country of Russia’s resources and taste for political skullduggery and chicanery is capable of, and minor compared with the influence many countries, including the United States, have sometimes exercised in the elections of other countries. No serious person could find anything in the conduct of the president that could be construed as obstruction of justice, the all-purpose catch-all of American prosecutors, who can conjure that charge from the most mundane acts.
“It is now clear that Russian attempts at interference in the 2016 election, though somewhat outrageous, were ineffectual”
That was true until Dems did for the Russians what they could not do on their own. I am sure that Putin is really pleased that they did his bidding.
That was a real thing, not a metaphor.
Most of his life Trump has been under investigation for one thing or another. But as far as I know, the hundreds of small creditors of Trump’s casinos didn’t become a mob and hang him from a tree – deserving as he might have been.
No.
Kim is like the “Friend” who is going to give you a ride in his car and every time you reach for the door handle he moves the car a few feet ahead. He does it over and over again and for some stupid reason all of the past presidents kept reaching for the handle never seeming to get it that they were being played as fools. Now Trump has said that the talks may not happen or that they may be delayed. This is the perfect answer to the guy behind the wheel. No sweeteners or concessions. Just walk away if that what it takes. Finally a man who knows the “Art of the Deal”!
He reached for the door. He claimed he was in the car and they had gone to Disneyland.
It would be nice if we could capture Kim, try him for kidnapping numerous Americans, then give him the Benito Mussolini treatment.
I am in part thinking about the young man who died shortly after he was released. Kim’s death should only occur after he is subjected to extreme pain and suffering.
while in an ideal world that would be good.
the Generals left in NoKo would dig in their heels, with Chinese help and we would not get any progress
The Chinese are calling the shots, they flinched at first with the tariffs, but now they have Trump pulling back. They don’t want the US military in the region, doesn’t want them anywhere near the South seas, they are claiming that hemisphere… period
It’s not going to happen
After Lybia, thank you hillary and obama, really, who could blame them?
Don’t know how this will end, but it won’t be good
The Chinese flinched. As guess it would do no good to point out that is was Trump who announced the tariffs and suspended them. He announced sanctions on ZTE and now he is walking them back.
What did we get? A vague promise by the Chinese to buy more farm products. Anything specific? An amount? Something binding?
We got absolutely nothing on intellectual property.
He got Kim to agree to a meeting. That was the quid pro quo for the rollback [not suspension] of the ZTE tariffs. But, these rollbacks are all “tied” to ongoing US-China trade negotiations, so they can be imposed at anytime. What happens next, depends to a great degree on what China gets Kim to do. Trump is using gunboat trading diplomacy here.
I agree that NK is China’s proxy. Whatever happens will be the result if Anerican VS Chinese interests, and unfortunately for us, China has been playing the long game much better than us for at least several decades.
It’s good to see NR putting aside their TDS to make a stand against Deep State. Restores some faith that they still believe in this nation’s founding principles, like honoring the results of the election and supporting the President of the United States against both foreign and domestic enemies.
I’m also hearing that FBI employees are almost begging to be subpeoned so they can whistleblow on the Hydra Agents that have perverted what was once a noble institution. That’s a great way to restore our faith in the Rule of Law. I pray they are successful.
Trump has already won the war with the DPRK, by getting XI to force Kim to even schedule talks. If Kim really backs off, then this gives greater justification for military pacification of North Korea. Of course, this could all be attempts by XI to gain further trade concessions from Trump. ei8ther way, trump, and the US, has already defeated Kim and has Xi on the ropes in the court of world opinion.
This is the same thing that tethered Sparta. Their elite warriors could not campaign too far from home for too long, else their slave population would revolt and burn the city to the ground.
