*UPDATE* House Intel Committee Votes to Release Nunes’ Memo

Memo alleges FBI abused FISA law to obtain warrant.

*UPDATE 6:38PM* The House Intelligence Committee did indeed vote to release a memo authored by Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA), which alleges the FBI abused the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act.

*From earlier today….

It will be the first time the committee has invoked an obscure committee rule in its 40 year history to make public a classified memo. This rule will allow the committee “to bypass the executive branch’s declassification process” and if they do, then President Donald Trump has five days to decide to release it to the public or deny it.

CNN reported:

The Nunes memo alleges that the FBI abused the FISA surveillance law over its use of the opposition research dossier on Donald Trump and Russia as part of the case to obtain a FISA warrant for former Trump campaign foreign policy adviser Carter Page. It cites the role of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe for their roles in overseeing aspects of the investigation, according to a source briefed on the matter.

The memo also appears to show that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein approved the application to extend surveillance on Page. From The New York Times:

The renewal shows that the Justice Department under President Trump saw reason to believe that the associate, Carter Page, was acting as a Russian agent. But the reference to Mr. Rosenstein’s actions in the memo — a much-disputed document that paints the investigation into Russian election meddling as tainted from the start — indicates that Republicans may be moving to seize on his role as they seek to undermine the inquiry.

The memo’s primary contention is that F.B.I. and Justice Department officials failed to adequately explain to an intelligence court judge in initially seeking a warrant for surveillance of Mr. Page that they were relying in part on research by an investigator, Christopher Steele, that had been financed by the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.

The committee has not told the media if they will bring up the memo in this business meeting, but the leadership did provide information to members about the obscure rule just in case they do vote.

They may also vote on a memo from Ranking Member Adam Schiff (R-CA) that counters the one from Nunes while “other Democrats say Nunes’ memo skews the intelligence it’s based on and is an effort to try to discredit special counsel Robert’s Mueller’s investigation.”

Reports have swirled today that FBI Director Christopher Wray went to Capitol Hill this weekend to view the memo. Fox News said that one source claimed “Wray was asked to point out inaccuracies or other issues with the wording — and said he would need ‘his people to take a look at it.'”

Re. Trey Gowdy (R-SC), who helped write the memo, told Fox News he wants the memo released:

He also suggested the memo indeed addresses whether the FBI relied at least in part on the dossier — paid for partially by Democrats and the Clinton campaign during the 2016 presidential election — to apply to a secret federal court to get a surveillance warrant, purportedly on then-Trump adviser Carter Page.

“If you … want to know whether or not the dossier was used in court proceedings, whether or not it was vetted before it was used. … If you are interested in who paid for the dossier … then, yes, you’ll want the memo to come out,” Gowdy told “Fox News Sunday.”

Mary will you be doing a reading, summary and analysis of it for us when it is released?

“The Problem Isn’t Just Corruption at the FBI and Main Justice, It’s Also The Media…”

https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2018/01/24/the-problem-isnt-just-corruption-at-the-fbi-and-main-justice-its-also-the-media/

I am thinking of “Seven Days in May” but rewrite civilian Deep State for military. This is a cold civil war being fought as an insurgency now. I can not begin to think of what is the push back being planned or what is going on now. The job of intelligence operatives in the past and usually against enemies of US was disinformation and overthrow of unwanted regimes. Why couldn’t the guns be pointed inward? We have the basis for another “Un-American Activities” investigation.. but now thwarted by at least 40% of population and Deep State/Media. In all these movies the bad guys were made to look like Republicans but in reality the opposite. Just be glad Trump won or The Pelican Brief” might have become real (…or was it already?)

Fascinating that the Entire House was allowed access to it for a week – no leaks to the press. The DOJ is finally shown a copy – and within hours leaked stories about it start showing up in the NYT and WaPo.

I’m certain that the military has so far prevented a coup.

Arminius in reply to Petrushka. | January 30, 2018 at 12:45 am

Coups are a lot of work, and we don’t get paid during government shut downs, and isn’t there a Superbowl coming up?

I’ll be on the couch, having a beer.

    Sincerely, the United States Military.

Arminius in reply to Petrushka. | January 30, 2018 at 1:00 am

If there’s going to be a coup, the f***ers are going to need me. And here’s the dealio, dady-o.

    I don’t like those f***ers.

Sincerely, the United States Military. Not wanting to run your country since forever.

So we have to wait a week to read the memo?

We could dream that Trump releases it right after the SOTU and right before the 4000 Sealed indictments get served

I caution everyone to curb their enthusiasm until we actually see the memo. Trey Gowdy supposedly had the goods on Hillary after Benghazi. It came to naught.

My sincere hope is that President Trump will ok the memo’s release prior to the SOTU speech, enabling him to absolutely HAMMER the deep state conspirators with demonstrably provable evidence.

In addition, my hope is that he can humiliate and fire Rosenstein, leaving Mueller with no option but to resign or face personal humiliation and repudiation in this anti-American attempt at a coup.

Ultimately, it is my hope that the direct involvement of Obama shall at last be unmasked and that he and his anti-American legacy shall be shown to the world for what it is: A blatant attempt to destroy our Constitution and our country.

    Gowdy is overrated

Barry in reply to MarkS. | January 29, 2018 at 10:19 pm

Gowdy is corrupt more than over rated.

snopercod in reply to Barry. | January 30, 2018 at 7:21 am

Why do you say he’s corrupt?

Barry in reply to snopercod. | January 31, 2018 at 2:18 pm

Perhaps corrupt is bit overhyped. Perhaps.

Show trials. Never any outcome other than a show.

He’s decided not to stand for re-election.

Perhaps the original poster had it right, over rated, but I have always suspected the “show” ended as a show only, covering for the corruption.

I don’t trust these types when nothing of substance other than political theater is produced. YMMV.

Paul in reply to bear. | January 29, 2018 at 10:34 pm

If Gowdy hadn’t dogged Hillary about Benghazi like he did, she almost certainly would have been elected. Remember, it was in the pursuit of the truth about Benghazi that her illegal private server was uncovered.

Hmmm. Will this memo release, nullify the Flynn and the other convictions that have handed down? Also will this memo nullify the Manafort indictments? Maybe the Proffessor will know. I would think so, whaereas these charges were filed on illegally obtained evidence.

    Milhouse in reply to Stan25. | January 29, 2018 at 9:37 pm

No, of course not. Why would it do any of those things?

Barry in reply to Milhouse. | January 29, 2018 at 10:22 pm

When it is shown the people conducting the investigation were corrupt and used illegal means to obtain information, the charges will be dropped. No other choice.

There have been charges only, no convictions.

Milhouse in reply to Barry. | January 29, 2018 at 10:32 pm

Flynn and Papadopoulos have pleaded guilty. Manafort and Gates did not, but the evidence against them seems solid, and nothing in the recent revelations would affect it.

Barry in reply to Milhouse. | January 30, 2018 at 1:46 am

          They can withdraw their pleas.

“…and nothing in the recent revelations would affect it.”

Everything corrupt officials do is suspect. One of the problems with taking down a corrupt DOJ and FBI is the ramification on all pending cases, even on those already adjudicated.

Who is that in the headline picture?
Whoever it is… sure don’t look too happy.

I saw Schiff hyperventilating about this release vote. It must have something really bad for Democrats in it.

MarkSmith in reply to tarheelkate. | January 29, 2018 at 11:39 pm

Schiff been on my radar for a long time. Going to cspan and watching some of his video, he has to be in with some of the government contractor pockets for him to distort the truth so bad.

In one video he blames the Russians for what is widely know as North Koren or Chinese hacking. It is interesting to watch him twist so many things to fit his narratives.

I am hoping they can make a direct connection to his activities.

The headline photo is Devin Nunes, chairman of the Intelligence Committee.

And FYI – Adam Schiff, as the Ranking Member of the Intelligence Committee, is a Democrat, not an R-CA

DieJustAsHappy | January 29, 2018 at 8:24 pm

I do wonder whether, after all is said and done, one Donald Trump’s greatest consequence will not be the economy, nor immigration, nor anything else but the fact this his election resulted in the exposure of the depth of corruption in our government. While much yet remains to be revealed; nevertheless, whatever disagreements I might have had or will have with him, I will always be grateful that he has stood tall and taken the flak that he has. God bless him and America!

    Agreed 100%.

Barry in reply to Milhouse. | January 29, 2018 at 10:24 pm

What exactly does it mean to remain a “nevertrumper”?

Milhouse in reply to Barry. | January 29, 2018 at 10:34 pm

I believe Donald Trump is an unfit person to hold any office of trust. Finding out that his opponents were even more corrupt than I already thought they were doesn’t affect that.

Barry in reply to Milhouse. | January 30, 2018 at 1:50 am

          You missed the boat Milhouse.

Sans Trump, you would only have your suspicions.

You don’t have to personally like someone to recognize when everything they are doing is good. And that means not being a never.

Simple equation, all the votes are in except yours, and it’s a tie. Your vote decides. Are you going to remain never?

“Ranking Member Adam Schiff (R-CA)”

Isn’t he a Dem?

Milhouse in reply to RedEchos. | January 29, 2018 at 9:48 pm

Yes, of course. Otherwise he couldn’t be ranking member. The “R” is obviously a typo.

Arminius in reply to Milhouse. | January 29, 2018 at 11:21 pm

It’s not a typo if it’s deliberate. That moves it into the category of joke. It may not be funny in the eye of the beholder, but still it’s a joke.

      Sincerely, George Wallace. Alabama Republican.

According to Susan Rice someone impersonated her to unmask Americans 300 times or so. Are the procedures to unmask so weak that they allow this and we can’t find out who did it?

Arminius in reply to ConradCA. | January 29, 2018 at 11:28 pm

They’re giving you the finger. They know their lies don’t have to make sense anymore. What are you going to do? Demand the FBI to investigate?

Arminius in reply to ConradCA. | January 29, 2018 at 11:48 pm

I was thinking about this, years back, before Milhouse brought up the very sensible observation about Hillary blowing off her annual training?

What are you going to do, if you’re her SSO or whatever the
DoS equivalent is? Go to the neutered IG? that individual would have been between a rock and a hard spot. Do you just log it for the record and go about your day? If Hillary Clinton refuses the training, what do you do? As if anyone else in the Obama administration cares.

So far all we know about this particular memo is the FISA surveillance connection And we do not know, yet, how comprehensive that is. But, this is only one of the roads this may lead down. Nunez had access to DIRs from the Obama WH that reportedly showed extensive unmaking. Immediately following his reading of these reports, he was brought up on ethics complaint charges. Now we have people threatening to file additional ethics complaints and even attempt to file criminal charges against him.

This is what it has all been about, people. The Russia Collusion scam, the leaks, the firing of Comey, the recusal of Session, the assignment of Rosenstein, the installation of Wray and the appointment of Mueller. It has all been to protect those involved in the greatest scandal in US history: the use of domestic surveillance of and weaponized agency attacks against political opponents by a sitting President and his administration. All the little building blocks will end up creating a skyscraper of criminality and it will reach all the way into the Oval Office. This summer is going to be FUN.

    Barry in reply to Mac45. | January 29, 2018 at 10:26 pm

“This summer is going to be FUN.”

Yes. Thanks to Trump we will finally see a period where Americans win.

4 easy-to-read pages that every American will be talking about. That’s how PR is done!

Gotta love this. See the clip at The Tree House:

After representative Adam Schiff ran to the microphones to decry the lack of GOP support for releasing his ‘minority memo’, congressman Lee Zeldin shares the back-story. Adam Schiff wouldn’t even allow the intelligence committee to see Schiff’s ‘minority memo’, yet he was demanding they vote to declassify it.

https://theconservativetreehouse.com/

Outstanding. When will we get to read the memo?
