Texas Bathroom Bill Could Preclude Texas From Hosting Future Super Bowls
The bill requires people to use the bathroom that matches their biological sex.
Houston, TX, just hosted another Super Bowl to rave reviews, but it may be the last one for the Lone Star State if the state passes its own bathroom bill. From The Houston Chronicle:
“If a proposal that is discriminatory or inconsistent with our values were to become law (in Texas), that would certainly be a factor considered when thinking about awarding future events,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said in an email response to a Chronicle question about the bill.
It was the league’s first statement on the matter since the legislation was introduced in January.
“The NFL embraces inclusiveness,” McCarthy added. “We want all fans to feel welcomed at our events, and NFL policies prohibit discrimination based on age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, or any other improper standard.”
The Texas Privacy Act requires “transgender people to use public bathrooms based on their biological sex and not the gender of their choice.”
Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said the bill protects the public, but also “declared it one of the ‘conservative principles’ that protect ‘Texas values.'”
But some have not welcomed the bill out of fear it could harm the state’s reputation. They have pointed out the consequences North Carolina has faced due to its bathroom bill. The NCAA removed seven previously scheduled championship events from the state, including the first and second round games of the NCAA men’s championship basketball tournament. The NBA also moved its All-Star Game out of North Carolina due to the bill
The list of those who boycotted North Carolina goes on, which includes entertainers, businesses, and celebrities.

A very tiny price to pay.
Screw professional and big college sports if they think they can boss Texas.
Yep. Houston just had theirs, so they’re out of the rotation for a decade at least, anyways. The only one who’s gonna really get his nose out of joint over this is Jerry Jones, heh. Cry me a river, Jerry.
One more reason I moved to Texas last year. Men go in the men’s room. Women in the women’s room.
And freaks preying on children go the Emergency Room.

RAR!
Welcome to North Carolina, Texan.
I think some of these states should start banning the NFL…
A very tiny price to pay.
The NFL, led by Roger Goodell, is working hard to kill the goose that laid those golden eggs. We need some female linebackers Roger. Discrimination!!!
Michelle Obama has some free time now
Why don’t you like us? Leave her name out of it. Are you suggesting you want us to think about Michelle Obama playing football? Although she probably has more athletic talent than that guy she’s married to. The one who has trouble sinking a lay-up, and can’t name a single White Sox player he likes.
Can you write coherently? What are you trying to say? I have no idea.
This is a very poorly conceived bill.
What is its intention? To harass genuine transgenders, few and far between though they may actually be, or is it to keep the perverts, molesters, and voyeurs out of the girl’s rooms? If the latter, the qualifying factor should be legal, not biological or medical, identity.
As I understand the current medical and legal practice, at some point transgender types make legal changes, most obviously name changes. This isn’t something done at whim; lawyers, courts, and money are involved. Weirdos who want to plant cameras near the toilets are not going to get their names changed just so they can do that. And if they try, courts can say no. Genuine trans types have extensive medical histories which should easily distinguish the genuinely—but honestly—confused people from the mere perverts.
That would be an obvious point at which to determine which persons go where. And it’s been the point for decades, without widespread problems or complaints. It’s only during the Obama reign when all the social weirdos came out from their lairs under bridges that things went all to hell. The question is how to undo the social and legal damage, not to add new damage in its place by passing clumsy, knee-jerk legislation.
As for the NFL, NCAA, and NBA … if we’ve decayed to the point that sports organizations are dictating government policies, we could save a potload of money by disbanding state government and just letting the professional sports biz handle everything.
I think you have the right of it, and it’s well nigh unenforceable. What, are we going to have airport scanners at restroom entrances now? The only benefit would ever be seen is after a perv gets caught and they need even more books to throw at him for plea bargaining “down” to a still lengthy sentence.
We are bending and twisting the social fabric to accommodate people with some serious physiological problems as if they are just an outlier of the normal bell curve. There comes a point when minutia dictates to reality and this is it. This is not the path to tolerant society but to a incoherent one.
Our society has sanctified the butchering of mentally disabled persons to facilitate the preservation of an illusion. The idea of allowing mentally disabled persons who would butcher themselves unguarded access to our children is absurd.
Genuine transgenders don’t care about these bills. A friend of mine was born male, but was never comfortable as such. S/he had breast implants, dresses female, has her hair done as female, makes up, etc. But s/he still has the male genitalia. When s/he is out, s/he looks like a female. If s/he were to walk into a men’s room, there would be an uproar. When s/he walks into a ladies’ room, there is no disturbance. Only in the privacy of the stall does her actual equipment make an appearance. S/he is back to being a woman when she finishes and exits the stall. None of the other ladies suspects a thing as s/he refreshes her makeup and hair at the sinks and mirrors.
So s/he will continue to use the ladies room, regardless of these laws. And the public will remain ignorant of her biological identity.
These laws are needed to keep the pervs out, not to keep out those undergoing transformations of gender.
“Genuine transgenders”? Oxymoron of The Day!
How long will it take till sex criminals start to “feel like a women” and exercise their right to use women’s facilities?
This has to be the dumbest issue. If a man says he’s a woman he can go into the lady’s room? Unfortunately people who think they are not the sex they are genetically locked into are mentally ill. They have a suicide rate of 40%. I feel sorry for them, but don’t want them in the bathroom alone with any of my female relatives.
The NFL is the most gutless pc business.
Civil Rights law 101: if a man who thinks he is a woman can use a woman’s bathroom, lockerroom or shower, so can a man who thinks he is a man. Anything else, ta da, discrimination on the basis of sex. The funniest thing to me about this controversy is to listen to the women’s groups and lawyers who have been telling us for 50 years that the right of bodily privacy is “fundamental” suddenly decide that it is conditional after all. Will the courts say that too? If so, I expect challenges to Roe on the basis that the courts have changed their minds about the right of privacy.
I’m trying to care about losing the Super Bowl. Really, I am.
. . .
Nope, I got nothin’.
Same here.
It ain’t even Tupperware!
After Super Bowl 51… everything else will be a dud in our lifetime. Maybe the NFL should go out on top?
I hate the NFL and NCAA bullying.
“We want all fans to feel welcome at our events.” Somebody needs to get a cluebat. Most women are uncomfortable with a male in the ladie’s room. I suspect that there are far more female NFL fans than there are “transgenders.”
I find it funny that so many do not see how downright demeaning it is to women and girls to allow someone not a biological female to call themselves a “woman” and expect to be addressed as such.
“We want all fans to feel welcome at our events.”
You got it Granny.
What happens if I don’t feel welcome at the event because of their policy?
What are they going to do to accommodate me?
Once again, so everyone can understand it: This is being misrepresented by the leftists pushing these laws. Genuine transsexuals, men who have had surgery and take hormones to look like women, already look like their new identities and go into restrooms without comment, and most likely without danger to women. What women worry about are men who claim to identify as women, but may be in women’s private spaces for voyeurism or assault. These “transgender” laws have no requirements that men take hormones, have surgical alterations, or even that they dress like women. These laws open the doors to people with abusive intentions.
Further, one would think the NFL had already damaged its ratings enough. Evidently not.
Spot on TarheelKate. Any chance those advising the NFL Commissioner all went to Duke?
yes, they all went to dook.
““If a proposal that is discriminatory or inconsistent with our values were to become law (in Texas), that would certainly be a factor considered when thinking about awarding future events,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said in an email response to a Chronicle question about the bill.
I thought their values were to win at all costs, without getting caught cheating. (Every game broadcast includes penalties which didn’t get called.) Which is why they drug test players for performance enhancing drugs. Vince Lombardi drank too much and abused his wife and kids.
“The NFL embraces inclusiveness,” McCarthy added. “We want all fans to feel welcomed at our events, and NFL policies prohibit discrimination based on age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, or any other improper standard.””
The heck they do. They discriminate based on lack of athletic ability. No talent, no play. Further, they discriminate on money. No money, to ticket. Then they move some of their games on cable, requiring more money. Have they always been such bastions of equality? No. One of the things Shula did to help his ’72 Dolphins win is to integrate the locker room.
I remember a Falcon’s game here in Atlanta one year that went longer than usual. Of course, beer and hot dogs reign. After the normal long lines at the women’s bathrooms got longer and no lines at the men’s, the ladies had had enough and went straight into the men’s rooms and were quickly accommodated by allowing them to have priority over the stalls while the men stuck to the standup urinals. It created not one instance of complaint or calling 911! We were all adults with too much beer. This is how to solve this problem. Put several stalls with doors and walls along with a partition with the standup urinals behind it and no one but the timidest will have an issue. Years ago when I was in Tokyo, there was a huge park, like Central Park in NYC, that had one long enormous restroom. At one end was men and the other was women. When you went in there was one long trench with flowing water in it that everyone squatted over to do their business. No partitions or walls. Just one long trench. I had no problem nor did the many Japanese women squatting in front of me. It is a normal thing, just not something most of us want to share. Let’s get over this nonsense.
I can see it now, Superbowl 105. In the audience attending the game were 12 transsexuals and the rest of the stadium was empty because women, who comprise 50% of the population (give or take a few) refused to attend over bathroom security concerns. Everyone knows that if Momma ain’t happy then ain’t no one happy so all the men folk stay home as well and why not – the TV coverage was every bit as good as being there. The good news was that there were no lines at the restrooms or for “refreshments”, but the bad news was that all of the vendors filed for bankruptcy after the game.
“What is its intention? To harass genuine transgenders”
there are very few genuine transgenders even among all those diagnosed as Transgender. Transgender is the mental illness diagnosis de jour. The mental health profession needs to take a hard look at the damage they are doing with the false diagnosis. Butchering and mutulating the human body will not cure the mental illness especially among those falsely diagnosed as transgender which likely is the majority of “transgender”.
Hope it passes – if it will get liberals to vacate Austin too.
I guess I don’t see how the State of Texas could not sue the NFL for discrimination. I think that this where this has to go next. People deciding they can discriminate against the right but will get sued if they discriminate against the left has to be called out.
How could Texas sue? Since when is it illegal to discriminate against certain states?
Whoa there! If we pass this law, Bruce Springsteen will probably boycott Texas! win/win
Well, if the professional sports organizations can prevent the hosting of championship games, they can be made to offset this economic loss through higher tax structures. What is good for the goose – and don’t tell me that the sports organizations can afford to move from Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and Arlington. Texas taxpayers likely paid for all the spanking new stadiums in these cities.
