Yale Rehires Employee Who Smashed “Racist” Stained Glass Window
Rewarding bad behavior.
Last week, Yale cafeteria worker Corey Menafee “resigned” from his job after smashing a stained glass window at the school claiming the image was racist and made him angry.

The school declined to press any charges and Menafee was held up as a hero by the social justice warrior left.
Naturally, students rallied to Menafee’s side. The Yale Herald reported:

On Monday, July 11, the New Haven Independent reported that Yale employee Corey Menafee was arrested by city police after he broke a panel in Calhoun College that showed slaves carrying cotton. He chose to resign from his position rather than face termination. In the days since, many Yale students and professors, New Haven residents, and people outside the immediate community have rallied around Menafee.
Bianca Brooks, a junior at Columbia University and community outreach chair of the school’s Intercultural Resource Center, created a GoFundMe campaign to offer Menafee and his family financial assistance while he is unemployed.
The page also links to an open letter written by Yale Law School students in support of Menafee. The petition, which has attracted signatures from Yale students, faculty, and staff, implores President Salovey to “publicly announce that Yale will not cooperate with the prosecution of Mr. Menafee, make every possible effort to secure the complete dismissal of all charges against Mr. Menafee, and reinstate Mr. Menafee in his former position at Yale.”
Menafee quickly decided he wanted his job back and Yale was happy to accommodate him.

A Yale University dining services worker who resigned after smashing a stained-glass window depicting slaves has gotten his old job back.
Patricia Kane, an attorney for Corey Menafee, told the Associated Press Tuesday that her client was “delighted to accept Yale’s offer” and would report for work Monday morning.
Menafee’s has said he destroyed the window inside Calhoun College with a broomstick because he found it offensive. The name of the residential college has sparked protests because it honors former Vice President John C. Calhoun, an 1804 Yale graduate and an ardent defender of slavery.
Menafee, who is black, resigned and apologized before asking through his union to have his job back.
Earlier Tuesday, Yale spokeswoman Karen Peart said the university had informed Menafee’s attorney that “we are willing to grant his request for a second chance at Yale.”
“We are willing to take these unusual steps given the unique circumstances of this matter, and it is now up to Mr. Menafee whether he wishes to return to Yale,” Peart said.
The message being sent here is loud and clear. You can smash things you don’t like, become a hero to the left, and suffer no consequences.
Somewhere, Hillary Clinton is nodding in approval.

Lawless behavior time after time! Or making excuses for lawless behavior.
That is winner for ‘stretch’ of the thread. However much you hate Obama, you cannot have missed the fact that he is civil and calm.
Even when Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr. was harassed by a bigoted cop Obama held a ‘beer summit’ instead of acting the demagogue. If he really want to stoke hatred and incivility he could have said any number of hateful things. Luckily no one running for president this time is intemperate.
Obama is always even-keeled, but you are wrong about the rest.
Why do you say the cop was bigoted? Because he was protecting Prof. Gates’ home against a possible burglary? Maybe he should just not patrol those homes, and leave them to the tender mercies of invaders. Wouldn’t want to be racist, dontcha know.

Are they offering him a position in the administration now? He certainly proved his bona fides as a SJW. That’s a primary job requirement it seems. And most colleges are not short of positions that have little to do with academics. Yale might even be able to create one just for him!
It’s the bigotry of low expectations, something that the Left is exceedingly well-versed in. Similar to the attitude displayed by that Georgetown or George Washington University student who was mugged by a black assailant in Washington, D.C., a year or so ago, and then took to social media to absolve his attackers of any culpability for their actions, stating that his “privilege” meant that he, the victim, had no right to condemn their conduct.
The Left views and treats blacks as emotional infants and perpetual “victims” who are incapable of exercising free will over their actions and who are incapable of taking personal responsibility for their volitional choices. Thus, blacks cannot reasonably be expected to comport their behavior in accordance with the norms and laws of society.
It’s an attitude that’s simply breathtaking in its inherent racism and condescension.
That’s a crystal clear signal that destruction of property you find offensive is OK. And why not? Shutting down the speech of others that you do find offensive has already been approved for the Prog Borg. Fundamentally Transformed.

Had the guy been white, they would have had him jailed immediately but because he was black, he gets rewarded.
Did Yale effectively just set a lower standard because he was black? And the Yale elite think those who would treat Cory Menafee as an accountable adult are the racists?
Imagine how traumatizing it must have been for the poor fellow, having chosen to work in a place that had artwork that depicted people he never knew, who are long dead, being forced to work by other people he never knew, who are also long dead.
Oh the humanity! Will the suffering never end?
The 60’s gave us sexual permissiveness. This one is giving us destructive permissiveness. Both result in undesirable maladies.

I’m sure there’s a lot of musty old books in Yale’s libraries that are “deeply offensive to African Americans” and they should be purged. Hell, Yale should celebrate it, throw a party, with a big bonfire…
While not through bonfires, it is my understanding that the same result has been achieved by other means, particularly in those areas of study prone to being over-run by the disciples of PC-ness.
One of these to actually have the “offensive” material removed from the shelves. Another is demote certain research and studies from being the standards they once were. This is done by not using them as primary sources, but as secondary ones. So, instead of reading what a scholar may have written, one reads another’s interpretation. Should it be particularly biased, well, then, the work of the original scholar is so bastardized.
Talk about academic dishonesty.
I am beginning to wonder if Harvard, Princeton and Yale are still accredited universities. Consider their never-ending stream of ignorant, arrogant graduates, and the continued clownish antics occurring on their respective campuses. By virtue of their strict affirmative action policies in favor of left-wing operatives, applied to both the faculty and the students, they have trashed the reliability of their brand names; no longer can you be sure that one of their graduates is capable of simple math, or, Heaven forbid, basic logic.
I’m not sure about their accreditation, but I’ve replaced all my Yale locks just in case. I want a good sturdy lock named for something tough. I guess Master locks are racist, but what the hey.
