Andy Stanley has a message for the forty-five and older crowd — stop scaring the children.
Why? Youngsters take cues from older generations. If all they hear is doom and gloom, there’s a pretty good chance they’re going to buy into the Apocalypse is nigh! hogwash.
“Many of you have grown weary and you’ve lost heart, and the reason is, you have fixed your eyes on a political system, you have fixed your eyes on a political leader, you have fixed your eyes on the good ‘ol days, you’ve fixed your eyes on the economy and you are growing weary and you need to knock it off!” said Stanley. “And I’ll tell you why — because you are scaring the children.”
“Government matters, policies matter, but neither of those matter as much as men and women understand this word, “faith.”” Stanley gets a little spiritual, but regardless of your spiritual leanings, the core of his message is true.
Surely there’s an optimum balance of teaching our children the reality of what lies ahead and still inspiring hope and optimism for who we are and what is possible.
I would rather have our future generation be well versed in our ideological heritage, excited about forging a path ahead than one smothered in nihilism.

I am the father of a teenager son and a soon to be tweenie son.
Teaching the truth about freedom will always be scary.
But I think it will prevent them cutting off their you know whats just to become part of the very few, the proud, the queens of the bathrooms!
Reality IS scary!
But dealing with it rationally is filled with hope and empowerment.
The RATIONAL approach has netted humanity a vastly improved standard of living, and a MUCH longer, more meaningful, and healthy life-span.
Today, we live like kings of only a century or two ago could have HOPED to live. The TREND in that direction is not “natural”. Indeed, it is COUNTER-natural. And we could lose it, if we are not careful.
That TREND is being extended to more and more of humanity, in a way and at a rate unheard of in human history.
Let’s do all we can to foster that by adopting and teaching the simple rules that have made it possible. Liberty is the key, and market economics is the vehicle.
It’s true. The news media and special interest groups are scaring (and scarring) the children. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus Christ, just keep living your life quietly, and let the rest of the world do it’s own thing. The children will respect you for it and turn out to be better adults thus creating a better society.
Scaring children is not such a bad thing. We have been a little too successful and take for granted that we will be in the future. Guaranteed. No work or effort required, we will make it.
And that means we can do things we know are bad for us, but they don’t matter, because we are fated to succeed.
World doesn’t work that way, and we ignore it at our own peril.
The problem is the ones who are attempting to scare us the most are, in their hearts, spoiled little children themselves.
In my opinion, they need to be scared when they are old enough to realize that their country has been mortgaged by our politicians and their future is indeed gloomy. The military is at an all-time low. The political system is inadequate to handle the problems we are facing and most of the pols are self-serving cowards. The criminal justice system is a PC-driven mess that no longer controls criminals. The School system is a PC mess that turns out idiots looking for safe spaces and who have no idea of the history of this once great nation. The banking system is run by an elite group of crooks along with Wall Street. The racial divide is much larger now that we have had the first black president and there is no relief in sight. So where are the bright spots this guy is talking about to pump our kids up with?
For a start, sell your TV and smash the kids smart phones.
Who is Andy Stanley? And why is his opinion more important than mine?
Your question is a valid one.
Andy Stanley is the son of Charles Stanley, a very well known televangelist out of Atlanta, GA. He now has almost as strong a following on religious television.
While his father is a solid conservative theologically, Andy’s theology can often fork into what can be best expressed as part of the “emergent church” movement.
So, one moment, Andy can be as solidly orthodox as his dad and in the next moment can act as heretical as they come.
Much of this has come out of Rick Warren’s “Purpose Drive Church” movement where conversion to being a christian is a result of clever marketing (also called cheap grace) rather than that of becoming a christian through conviction, confession, and repentance of being a sinner and who is now saved by grace and the blood of the lamb.
Of the two, the later is life changing.
The son is definitely a mixed bag – mega church, “gay affirming,” etc. I would be inclined to disregard probably 90+% of what he says, since I get the strong impression he cares more about what man thinks rather than what God thinks ~
And Preacher Andy pulls in a tidy sum of somewhere north of $48 million through the tithes from those who buy into his redemption plan without having to own the product.
That is annually, not a one time achievement award.
