Sen. Jeff Sessions endorses Trump

Sen. Jeff Sessions endorses Trump

An anti-globalization agenda that has more in common with the far left than with the “right wing”.

video

Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions endorsed Donald Trump at a rally today.

The endorsement is viewed as a blow to Ted Cruz, who often cites Sessions to bolster Cruz’s immigration bona fides.

The Washington Post reports:

“Politicians have promised for 30 years to fix illegal immigration. Have they done it? Donald Trump will do it,” Sessions said at the Madison City Schools Stadium, where thousands gathered to hear Trump speak. “I’ve told Donald Trump this isn’t a campaign, this is a movement.”

The endorsement represents a major blow to Sen. Ted Cruz (Tex.), one of Trump’s two chief rivals for the Republican nomination. Cruz has touted his strict positions on border security and deportation, leaning on his strident commitment to conservative ideology as a key rationale for his candidacy. In the run-up to the March 1 Super Tuesday primary elections, Cruz has tried to undermine Trump’s conservative bona fides on immigration reform, characterizing his plan as “amnesty.”

So what’s the significance of this endorsement?

I think it’s significant because it helps solidify Trump’s hold on his roughly 1/3 of the Republican electorate at a time when Trump is under increasing attack. But I don’t think it expands the Trump vote.

With Rubio, Cruz and Kasich still dividing the non-Trump vote, 1/3 may be enough to win the nomination, particularly once we get to winner-take-all states after Super Tuesday.

The interesting thing to me was not the immigration angle, but how much of the endorsement went to a general anti-globalization agenda. In this sense, the Trump wing of the Republican Party and the Bernie Sanders wing of the Democratic Party have much in common.

Here’s a thought: perhaps Cruz had concluded that he has no chance to beat Trump. He then encouraged all of his potential endorsers to support Trump, who will nominate Cruz to Scalia’s seat on SCOTUS in January.

HandyGandy in reply to MTED. | February 28, 2016 at 10:48 pm

If I were Trump, I would first nominate Diane Sykes, because even though it’s post-election I would chose the woman first. Then when Ruth Buzzy goes, I would chose Bill Pryor.

I also think he will be able to do something about Roberts, who I do not think voluntarily chose to support Obamacare. What that is, I do not know. It will be one of his first measures.

Cruz, I don’t know. Maybe solicitor general, but really I would just leave him where he is.

Estragon in reply to MTED. | February 29, 2016 at 7:22 am

    Trump will never be President.

Media has carried him thus far, giving him 95% of the total air time for Republicans and making his rivals divide the remainder – nearly always having to answer questions about Trump. They have attacked him only in ways that solidify his base – so far. The good stuff is saved for after he’s won the nomination, when the freebies end and the gloves come off.

    – –

Trump is thin-skinned and easy to unnerve, media will keep him on the defensive until he melts down. He already has the highest negative ratings ever recorded.

They’ve served up Trump to us on a platter, because he is the one candidate Democrats can beat easily with a chance to retake the Senate.

It seems to me that “anti-globalization” stand is tied closely to many other issues that America faces, and it’s what the people are reacting to.

All I know is one has only to look at Europe, and we see our future.

I like Sen. Sessions. I like Sen Cruz. I’m hoping that a way will be found to get the best out of all the players, not the worst.

If anti-globalization means standing up for sovereignty against the UN, then count me in. If it means vigorously resisting encroachment on the Second Amendment by International treaties and authorities, then hell yes, let’s fight! If it means standing shoulder to shoulder with Israel against the depredations of the EU, International Court, and UN I will be proud to be in the ranks of the resistance.

    No more open borders
    No more Obamatrade
No more multi-trillion dollar giveaways over “Climate Change”
No more threats of hauling our leaders and soldiers before international courts for defending themselves or our country

This Agenda is not a far left agenda. It is as conservative and American as it gets. Calling it “far left” is utter nonsense.

JimMtnViewCaUSA in reply to Lady Penguin. | February 29, 2016 at 12:17 pm

“I’m hoping that a way will be found to get the best out of all the players”
With the endorsements by diverse Repubs (Palin, Sessions, Scott Brown, Gov Christie, former Gov Jan Brewer, rumors of Newt) we perhaps get a glimpse of the faces of a potential Trump Admin.

Trump on his own would be ignored by Congress, I mean, they’re already ignored the Americans who voted them into office. But if Trump can pull in strong leaders, he could make a dent.

You know what, I quit. Why be informed and have to be aware of the lunacy happening right now. You guys have fun with your hero. Good luck with that.
Who needs the constitution or rule of law or even common decency. We can stick it to people we don’t like if the right guy gets in there.
Things are gonna be tremendous. That’s all I need to know.
It’s going to be huge I bet.

I’ll still vote, but I ain’t gonna pay a dime more attention to any media on this election.

The Gary Britt troll brigade wins, I hope their savior can too.

Valerie in reply to Zachary. | February 28, 2016 at 10:09 pm

I think the troll brigade wouldn’t have so much force if the Republicans at the national level hadn’t fought them every step of the way, from the inception of the Tea Parties, on.

The simple truth is, the voters are their bosses, not the other way around.

I could see it as a problem within the GOP, except that the Democrats have exactly the same problem.

If you really want to send a message, vote 3rd party.

Events have overtaken the small minded. Drop this petty butt-hurt nonsense and head to the War with Hillary. Join ranks or GTF out of the way.

PS: There is one way Cruz can take Scalia’s seat, and it’s not by throwing a tantrum over Trump.

Ragspierre in reply to DaMav. | February 28, 2016 at 11:13 pm

Yep. As I figured. A mole troll.

No. Get screwed. Some of us here still care about the Constitution.

Skookum in reply to Ragspierre. | February 29, 2016 at 3:30 pm

We know you don’t care about the Constitution, Rags, because you support a natural-born Canadian citizen who became a naturalized US citizen by statute.

NbyNW in reply to DaMav. | February 29, 2016 at 4:17 pm

    Never Trump.

There are too many of us who are opposed to him and will either vote third party, vote for Hillary, or sit out. The plurality has managed to support the one candidate who is so unfit for office that he will lose in the general against Hillary because so many Republicans can’t support him. We know the consequences with the Supreme Court, etc. It doesn’t matter.

If you want to win the general, convince the voters to abandon Trump and support one of the others. That’s our only chance.

Trump Endorsements:

– Gov Sarah Palin

– Sheriff Joe Arpaio

– Gov Chris Christie

– Gov Jan Brewer

– Sen Sessions

The Gov Christie endorsement helps against Marco Rubio.

The Sen Sessions endorsement helps against Ted Cruz.

For the sake of having a common understanding of the term Anti-Globalization Agenda…

From Wiki

Anti-Globalization Movement

The anti-globalization movement, or counter-globalisation movement,[1] is a social movement critical of the globalization of corporate capitalism. The movement is also commonly referred to as the global justice movement,[2] alter-globalization movement, anti-globalist movement, anti-corporate globalization movement,[3] or movement against neoliberal globalization.

Participants base their criticisms on a number of related ideas.[4] What is shared is that participants oppose what they see as large, multi-national corporations having unregulated political power, exercised through trade agreements and deregulated financial markets. Specifically, corporations are accused of seeking to maximize profit at the expense of work safety conditions and standards, labor hiring and compensation standards, environmental conservation principles, and the integrity of national legislative authority, independence and sovereignty. As of January 2012, some commentators have characterized the unprecedented changes in the global economy as “turbo-capitalism” (Edward Luttwak), “market fundamentalism” (George Soros), “casino capitalism” (Susan Strange),[5] and as “McWorld” (Benjamin Barber).

Many anti-globalization activists call for forms of global integration that better provide democratic representation, advancement of human rights, fair trade and sustainable development and therefore feel the term “anti-globalization” is misleading.</i

So… international Social Justice Warfare Utopia, then. Not interested.

That is a Bernie Sanders anti globalization definition.

Trump/Sessions anti globalization isnt anti globalization really at all it is anti global corporation mega donors who push open borders and unlimited work visas and horrible trade deals all of which combine to destroy the middle and lower classes in this country.

Some of you think this is done on the single event of an endorsement by a single senator.

I don’t.

On Tuesday, I’ll be proudly voting for Ted Cruz. I’ll work for Mr. Cruz every day after that as long as he’s running.

I will NEVER vote for the Collectivist T-rump, or any other Collectivist.

If T=rump is elected, I will begin the process of seeing him impeached. It won’t take long before there are grounds.

I support your vote For Ted Cruz, Rags. He’s a good man and a blue ribbon statesmen who guards the Constitution.

janitor in reply to Ragspierre. | February 28, 2016 at 11:29 pm

You’ve had seven years to get Obama impeached. Where was the movement. Where was the groundswell. You know where it was. Nowhere. Because of entrenched uniparty establishment interests.

“T-rump” is only possible way open right now to enable what Cruz et al. need to do. Trump isn’t anti-Cruz. Use what you have at hand and do what is strategically smart and what is possible. I hope you are prepared to be happy when your fears are proved wrong.

Is Trump perfect? Of course not! Not even close! But he WILL do some basic core things and he DOES take advice and IS educable on issues that have been off his radar. Newt Gingrich is advising him. Ditto Sessions, and others. If you want to build a nice building you first have to use a wrecking ball on the old mess that’s in the way. Sorry for that analogy, no pun intended.

We will both vote for Cruz. Then, short of a Cruz miracle, I’ll work to have the Republican nominee defeat Clinton and you will stab the country in the back and help put her in office. You’re a sanctimonious Quisling, nothing more.

Trump fans long ago started a pattern of flinging personal insults at people who dared to criticize their idol. Months ago, Trump fans were saying that scrutinizing Trump in any way amounted to selling out, or “jumping the shark.”

Dana Loesch has gotten threats of serious harm for the sin of criticizing Trump.

I’ve been called a “liar” simply for pointing to facts about Trump’s habitual dishonesty and shiftiness, his vindictiveness, his raging egomania and narcissism, his crude boorishness, etc.

Trump fans aren’t offended when Trump viciously slanders people who get in his way. They aren’t bothered that Trump wants to make it easier to sue people who criticize HIM.

Trump fans are determined to prove that Trump was correct when he said he could shoot someone in the middle of Fifth Avenue and not lose their devotion.

You’ve been here something like 2-3 months, and have posted nearly 300 comments in that time. Seems you like it well enough here!

“On Tuesday, I’ll be proudly voting for Ted Cruz. I’ll work for Mr. Cruz every day after that as long as he’s running.”

Proving you don’t give a damn about our Constitution or country. How does it feel to be a useful idiot? Lenin and Obama are proud of you.

I guess since Trump lost the coveted Glenn Beck endorsement, he’ll have to settle for this.

(What was Ted thinking???)

What the Jeff Sessions endorsement of Trump says is that Sessions does not trust Cruz on immigration, the wall, or trade.

Cruz thought so much of his “friendship” with sessions he didn’t even bother to respond to Sessions public test questions on Trade. Trump responded.

Actually Trump is out there saying that if he wins the majority of delegates on Tues. the race is over. He’ll do no more debates, etc. He’ll be king. I mean he’s always talking about his reign. Well I for one love my country far to much to let someone of his character and lawlessness take over my country. Donald Trump couldn’t even clean the shoes of a man like Cruz. No, he may not win and for that I’ll be extremely sorry, but if Trump wins it’s you who will be the sorry ones. When he shuts down the internet, makes friends with Putin, lands us in the middle of trade war and you lose your jobs and anything else that requires money, yeah, then we’ll hear you screaming out “why didn’t anyone tell us.” I leave you to your fate and when you realize you’ve been taken for idiots we’ll be there to tell you we told you so and will wish you all the worse.

Tell about how he bites the heads off cute little puppies, c’mon don’t hold back. And how he loves the kkk like Van Jones and Rabidpierre said

Of course, you lie. What Der Donald DID do was dither and equivocate over the questions put to him about the KKK.

You can find the video yourself. Liar.

It’s not anti-globalization, but rather pro-American, black, white, brown, yellow, red, whatever. The homeless, unemployed, disenfranchised, aborted, etc.

The far-left is pro-globalization or marginalization of individual rights, dignity, value, etc. They operate with the goal of realizing a world order, similar to Islam, similar to feudalism. The far-left is oriented to establish monopolies of religion, economics, culture, etc.

No, they don’t have much in common. That is utter nonsense.

Trump 2016, there is no other!

History: “And so the people heard what they wanted to hear and soon became deaf and then myopic and then blind. They – Sessions, the KKK, other ‘endorsers’ – threw in their lot with the puerile and fatuous so as to remain in the good ‘graces’ of populist opinion. As lemmings the people voted for Trump…”

“And so under Trump a wall was built between true conservatism and his ruling party Media Populism…”

“anti-globalization agenda that has more in common with the far left than with the “right wing”

An odd proposition that would put WF Buckley and NR in the pantheon of conservatism and Robert A. Taft outside of the conservative pantheon altogether.

“Taft rallied the GOP remnants and the beleaguered American Right under the banner of liberty and responsibility at a time when the headwinds of collectivism were blowing mightily from every direction. Around him he gathered a movement, which today is known as the Old Right—as distinguished from the “New” Right of William F. Buckley Jr. and National Review, which inherited from Taft and his confrères the mantle of opposition but did little to honor it.”

BREAKING: Ben Sasse Becomes the First Elected Republican to Declare He’ll Never Vote for Trump
————————–
AN OPEN LETTER TO TRUMP SUPPORTERS

To my friends supporting Donald Trump:

The Trump coalition is broad and complicated, but I believe many Trump fans are well-meaning. I have spoken at length with many of you, both inside and outside Nebraska. You are rightly worried about our national direction. You ache about a crony-capitalist leadership class that is not urgent about tackling our crises. You are right to be angry.

I’m as frustrated and saddened as you are about what’s happening to our country. But I cannot support Donald Trump.

Please understand: I’m not an establishment Republican, and I will never support Hillary Clinton. I’m a movement conservative who was elected over the objections of the GOP establishment. My current answer for who I would support in a hypothetical matchup between Mr. Trump and Mrs. Clinton is: Neither of them. I sincerely hope we select one of the other GOP candidates, but if Donald Trump ends up as the GOP nominee, conservatives will need to find a third option.

Mr. Trump’s relentless focus is on dividing Americans, and on tearing down rather than building back up this glorious nation. Much like President Obama, he displays essentially no understanding of the fact that, in the American system, we have a constitutional system of checks and balances, with three separate but co-equal branches of government. And the task of public officials is to be public “servants.” The law is king, and the people are boss. But have you noticed how Mr. Trump uses the word “Reign” – like he thinks he’s running for King? It’s creepy, actually. Nebraskans are not looking for a king. We yearn instead for the recovery of a Constitutional Republic.

Article by The Indipendent (UK) published an hour ago…

Donald Trump now has more support than all his Republican rivals combined, says new poll

The Republican establishment is desperate to find an alternative candidate to Mr Trump

    Andrew Buncombe New York
    @AndrewBuncombe

He seems all but unstoppable. Tycoon Donald Trump now has more support among Republican voters than all of his rivals combined, according to a new poll released on the eve of the crucial Super Tuesday battles.

The CNN-ORC poll puts Mr Trump on 49 points, with Senator Marco Rubio on 16 per cent, Senator Ted Cruz on 15 per cent, Ben Carson on 10 per cent and Ohio Govenor John Kasich on 6 per cent. Together, support for Mr Trump’s rivals totals just 47 per cent.

The release of the poll comes as the Republican establishment, which dislikes Mr Trump and loathes Mr Cruz, scrambles to find an alternative candidate around which voters and donors can gather.

Mr Rubio, who has emerged as perhaps the most likely genuine challenger, faces a tough battle to try and halt Mr Trump’s momentum, especially while so many other candidates remain in the race.

Mr Kasich has said he intends to keep campaigning at least until his home state votes on March 15.

While the poll represents good news for Mr Trump, there are also elements that will make his less pleased.

Rut Row,

The businessman tops his nearest competitor by more than 30 points: 49% back Trump, 16% Marco Rubio, 15% Ted Cruz, 10% Ben Carson and 6% John Kasich.

Full CNN/ORC poll results Feb. 24-27

Trump’s supporters are incredibly enthusiastic about the coming election, and largely committed in their support for him. Nearly 8 in 10 say that they are more enthusiastic about voting this year than in previous elections, among Republicans who are not supporting Trump, just 39% say they are more enthusiastic than in years past. Likewise, 78% of Trump’s backers say they will definitely support him vs. 22% who say they could still change their minds. Among those backing other candidates, 57% say they are committed to their chosen candidate.

The survey asked those Republicans not currently backing Trump whether they would support him if he became the party’s nominee, and just a quarter of Republicans overall say they probably or definitely wouldn’t support him in November. That’s about the same as the share saying they wouldn’t back Rubio or Cruz.

Trump is widely viewed as the candidate in the field who would be most effective at solving the country’s problems, 51% vs. 17% for Cruz, 13% for Rubio and 10% for Carson, and as being best able to handle the responsibilities of being commander-in-chief, 48% say so, compared with 17% for Cruz and 15% for Rubio. The billionaire is also seen as the one who best understands the problems facing people like you, 46% Trump vs. 18% Cruz and 15% Rubio.

As accusations of dishonesty have flown between Trump, Cruz and Rubio, voters say they are more apt to see Trump as honest and trustworthy. Asked who of the five candidates is most honest and trustworthy, 35% name Trump, 22% Carson — who has largely stayed out of the mudslinging – 14% Cruz and 13% Rubio.

But Trump is such a “strong Christian” that the IRS is persecuting him for it!

And he reads the Bible more than anyone else, but he can’t name a single favorite verse, not even vaguely refer to a parable, because “it’s very personal” — which would make him the first devout Christian in history who wants to keep the Gospel all to himself.

Another record! — just like the Trump string of bankruptcies.

False messiahs have persecution complexes. Trumph is a false messiah.

Trumph claims that he is persecuted by ___ and ___ and ___, etc.

Why, even a Hispanic judge who is hearing Trumphs’ fraud case must be prejudiced against him. Who would bring a case against a messiah who is suspected of committing fraud against people. Why only con men do that kind of thing!

Trumph knows how to win friends and manipulate people as any false messiah con man would.

Sessions is awfully gullible if he thinks a Trump campaign pledge is any more reliable than a “Trump University” sales pitch, or a Trump payment promise, or a Trump golf score, or any number of Trumpian pronouncements — such as “Nobody reads the Bible more than me!” or “maybe I’m always being audited because I’m such a strong Christian.”

Trump is a habitual liar. Sessions chose to pretend that the fraud is real.
