Rick Perry chokes up discussing military sacrifice
“This president does not know how to connect the dots.”
Joining Rep. Trey Gowdy and Sen. Tim Scott at a Presidential town hall forum in South Carolina Thursday, Governor Rick Perry took questions ranging from entitlement reform to national security.
During a particularly emotional moment, Governor Perry went off script to discuss his deep-rooted feelings about military service.
When asked by an audience member if he would close Gitmo, Perry answered, “listen, I’d keep Guantanamo Bay open. The bad guys don’t need be over here. This president does not know how to, and I’m just going to editorialize here just a little bit — this president does not know how to connect the dots. If he did, we would not be negotiating with Iran today. If he did, we would have the Castro brothers on their knees in Cuba, but we threw them a lifeline.”
Perry continued, “this president does not understand, either he doesn’t have the experience of how foreign policy works, or he is so philosophically out of tune with the vast majority of Americans.”
When the conversation turned to Iraq, Perry’s demeanor changed.
“We have this wreck in Iraq today because this president made a statement during a political campaign to move our soldiers out of there on a date certain and everything is going to heck in a hand basket over there. You’ve got ISIS that has been created over there because this president does not understand how to connect the dots.”
“If we had left a force there to maintain the peace — we won the peace. We got friends that paid an extraordinary price… and we walked away from it so this president could say ‘I kept my political promise.’ He has served us so poorly, and we need a president of the United States who understands and has a passion deep within their heart about what war cost,” said Perry, pulling no punches.
Turning to his gubernatorial experience, Perry said, “I signed a letter a week from 2003 to 2010 to a Texas family who lost a loved one.”
“I understand. Having worn the uniform of this country, I know what our young men and women go through. I had a young Navy SEAL that lived with us for two years, Marcus Luttrell. I know what this war cost. I’ve seen it in their faces. I’ve seen it in the families faces,” said Perry struggling to speak. “We need a president who understands that to their soul and that will never, ever put those young men and women in jeopardy and harms way unless we’ve used up every option that we have.”
Perry shared the story of his paternal relationship with “Lone Survivor” and Navy SEAL, Marcus Luttrell previously.

Perry is a good man. If there isn’t a place for him in national leadership, that says some bad things about us.
Perry is making a common mistake about Obama. Our president’s decision regarding foreign policy and our use of military are all predicated on his Socialist ideology and his strong intent to radically transform our country. Obama has succeeded greatly, much to the detriment of our country. However, while Perry probably is not yet willing to make that bold statement against Obama right now, neither are many of our candidates for the GOP nomination so willing either. To his credit, Perry is not in the GOPe ranks, AFAICT.
The board sweep of experience across all the GOP candidates is amazing (IMHO: excluding the GOPe supported candidates) and I do hope that many of them will have a place in a Republican administration. However, they all have to continue to face GOP voters and make their positions, ideas, and goals for their administration quite clear.
Perry is a good man.
He flew C-130s. That’s not nothing. But really, everyone who rogers up didn’t do nothing.
Not to turn this thread into an ode to myself but I did did 20 years in the Navy. My dad was a 20 year man in the Coast Guard. He was “only” a Radioman. How he didn’t end up as a red smear on a white hull I’ll never know.
Is there anyone running for the presidency other than Perry who is a veteran?
And I understand why choked up. He did push ups and the cold water.
Perry has faced all the issues that are top of the concerns for GOP voters and successfully addressed at least most of them. I am appalled that so many conservatives are not aware of his qualifications. I can’t think of any other reason why he’s not higher in the polls.
“If you say that we should not educate children who come into our state for no other reason than that they’ve been brought there through no fault of their own, I don’t think you have a heart.”

Rick Perry on why only heartless conservatives would not shower illegal aliens with freebie education and in-state tuition in college.
Instead of backtracking on this insulting appeasement of illegals, Perry has doubled down on it in the 2016 race, frothing at the mouth about Trump being mean to illegals leading to “perdition”.
“He offers a barking carnival act that can be best described as Trumpism: a toxic mix of demagoguery, mean-spiritedness and nonsense that will lead the Republican Party to perdition if pursued.”
Perdition is defined as “a state of eternal punishment and damnation into which a sinful and unpenitent person passes after death.”
So first those wishing to enforce American law are heartless. Now we are accused by Perry of leading the Party to eternal punishment and damnation.
This poo flinging tantrum is Perry’s attempt to convince us that he is the sober minded voice of reason in the room.
Not everyone likes Trump or his style. But there is a good reason that Perry is polling at about 2%. Who needs a candidate who goes into a frenzy over the need to provide illegals with freebies to reward them for breaking our country’s laws?
Wow. THAT was a VERY skillful set of lies and partial truth, packaged as a sliming attack you thought would appeal to the worshipers of your little yellow god.
Here’s an old song to cheer you up Bud

See if you can defend your lies, liar. Don’t just try to call me names.
You took your quote grossly out of context, and I’ll be happy to punk you all over this thread.
Please…
The quotes are accurate, in context and have been widely circulated and discussed, sorehead. The results of Perry carrying the banner for illegals and falling off his horse while pulling a full scale joust at the Trump windmill are correct as well. You, your boyfriend, and your Mom have every right to vote down all my posts while you froth and splutter — 2% is still 2%.
Sorry you didn’t like the Canned Heat
Now, last year, more than 16,000 children of illegals [a single-digit percentage, BTW], young people in Texas, took advantage of your in-state tuition rate. Speak to that issue. And just, generally, how do you feel being criticized by a number of these other candidates on the stage for being too soft on immigration, sir?
PERRY: Well, I feel pretty normal getting criticized by these folks, but the fact of the matter is this: there is nobody on this stage who has spent more time working on border security than I have.
For a decade, I’ve been the governor of a state with a 1,200-mile border with Mexico. We put $400 million of our taxpayer money into securing that border. We’ve got our Texas Ranger recon teams there now.
I supported Arizona’s immigration law by joining in that lawsuit to defend it. Every day I have Texans on that border that are doing their job.
But if you say that we should not educate children who have come into our state for no other reason than they’ve been brought there by no fault of their own, I don’t think you have a heart [or a brain]. We need to be educating these children, because they will become a drag on our society [i.e., running the streets].
I think that’s what Texans wanted to do. Out of 181 members of the Texas legislature, when this issue came up, only four dissenting votes.
This was a state issue. Texans voted on it. And I still support it greatly.
(APPLAUSE)
See, THAT is in context.
Being that you aren’t from Texas, and ARE a lying, stupid asshole, you aren’t aware of the rest of the larger context, which includes that Texas is a sales and property tax state. This means that illegal aliens DO pay school taxes in Texas.
ALSO in context, no Texas governor could do anything about illegal aliens, AND they HAVE to provide them grade school education by Federal mandate. The Texas legislature thought it better to have young people in school than on the street, which was our choice, given the Federal regime.
You have earned a place in my “Lying Sack Of Shit” hall of fame.
Plus, you are so defensive about your little yellow god, it’s funny. Puuuuuurrrr iddy waddams.
You demonstrated that my quote from Perry was 100% accurate, and that you have the emotional maturity of a 3 year old just learning to cuss.
We’ll put you with the Very Very Angry 2%
Now brace yourself Ragsy, because you don’t speak for Texas Republicans either:
According to a Gravis Marketing poll, Trump is besting the entire GOP field among Texas voters with 24%, which reflects his numbers nationally. That lead compares to a second place spot for Sen. Ted Cruz at 16% with former Texas Gov. Rick Perry with a paltry 4%.
Before Trump entered the race, Cruz led the field among Lone Star voters at 20% with Perry following close behind with 12 points.
http://conservativeintel.com/2015/08/21/trump-leads-texans-in-texas/
4%! 4%! 4 effing percent Ragsy! In Texas. Now go take a bubble bath and be sure to soak your head. 4% lmao
Oh, you lying POS, I REALLY don’t speak for Texas Republicans, since I’m NOT one having ended THAT affiliation decades ago.
And I don’t give a flying fluck how idiots are answering polls in a time when they don’t matter.
I just know how to tell the truth, and you know how to lie, as you’ve proven.
So you keep your lips pressed to T-rump’s fat pink scrotum, and lie for him as you have here. He might give you a ball cap.
On the other hand, there is an inspirational top notch Texan in the race:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=284&v=79oNzjbdYy8
In an interview with Cliff Sims, editor of Yellowhammer News, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) candidate for the Republican presidential nomination, was asked about the possibility of having Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) as his attorney general, should Cruz be elected president.
Great interview of a great Texan.
The furious Ragsy demonstrates that he may not know diddly about politics but he’s a veritable gourmet mastermind when it comes to the scrotal pigmentation of the male candidates.
Later, chump 🙂
What I’ve demonstrated is that you’re a POS liar, who persists in his lies, and is a bung-sucking punk for T-rump, very, very like the bung-suckers for Obama who lie like you do. Remarkably the same.
