The Votes Are In, ‘Affordability’ Is Out: Dems Pivot to Sanctuary Cities and War on ICE

“I believe that at a time when immigration enforcement is everywhere in Los Angeles … we need a law enforcement presence that is telling immigrants that they are safe in our city.”

Well, that was fast.

Democrats spent the better part of two years pounding the Trump administration over the spike in prices caused by President Trump’s ill-conceived tariffs and his war of choice with Iran.

Americans were hurting, and boy, did they feel their pain. Elect them to bring down prices.

It was always a disingenuous message considering that inflation hit a 40-year high during the Biden years. In fact, during the 2022 midterm cycle, inflation reached 9.1% in June, and stood at 7.7% when voters went to the polls in November. As I wrote earlier this week:

The roughly 21% cumulative increase in prices during Biden’s presidency did not disappear when Trump took office; those higher costs became the starting point for his administration. Yet Democrats and the toxic legacy media have focused relentlessly on the 3.7% inflation under Trump, giving no attention to the burden he inherited.

Voters who believed that Democrats would — or even could — do anything to lower prices were deceived. It took about a nanosecond for Democrats to forget all about affordability and pivot to their real priorities, chief among them securing sanctuary cities and opening investigations against Department of Homeland Security officials.

Democratic mayors across America are going all-in on efforts to shield illegal aliens from deportation. Many are pledging to revive and expand sanctuary policies, vowing to limit cooperation with federal immigration authorities and resist the Trump administration’s deportation efforts.

Among this group is DSA-backed Los Angeles Mayor-elect Nithya Raman. She has pledged to make Los Angeles the strongest and most secure sanctuary city in the country, building upon the city’s existing legislative and policy framework.

In an exclusive interview with The LA Local, Raman reaffirmed her plans to fire Los Angeles Police Department Chief Jim McDonnell. Why? She believes that, under his leadership, the LAPD has not done enough to make illegal aliens know “they are safe in our city.”

Raman said:

I believe that at a time when immigration enforcement is everywhere in Los Angeles … we need a law enforcement presence that is telling immigrants that they are safe in our city. Under Chief McDonnell’s leadership, I don’t believe LAPD met that standard.

According to the outlet, Raman emphasized that it was “LAPD’s responsibility to uphold LA’s sanctuary city ordinance and not collaborate or share information with immigration authorities.”

Separately, LA Local reported that Raman has called for an audit of all city departments to ensure strict compliance with LA’s sanctuary city ordinance, which prohibits using city resources, personnel, or data (such as license plate readers) for federal immigration enforcement.

On Friday, Greenville Online reported that Raman plans to scale up funding for “RepresentLA” — the city’s legal defense program for immigrants facing deportation — and establish emergency utility-fee waivers for families targeted by federal enforcement actions.

The incoming mayor made her priorities very clear during her victory speech, telling supporters, “I am an immigrant. This is a city of immigrants.”

[Amusingly, Fox News’ Jesse Watters has dubbed Los Angeles “The New Raman Empire.”]

Houston Mayor John Whitmire has already signed an executive order directing the Houston Police Department to limit cooperation with ICE.

At a Friday news conference, Whitmire explained, “I do this to begin a healing process [and] reduce fear and anxiety across our community. I also do this knowing that elections matter.”

In addition to the growing number of sanctuary pledges from liberal city mayors, members of Democratic congressional committees are promising investigations of Department of Homeland Security officials.

On Friday, Fox News reported:

Rep. Robert Garcia, D-Calif., who is poised to lead the House Oversight Committee, responded to Democrats’ win Tuesday with a statement: “Lawyer Up”, despite having pledged to prioritize household costs alongside government accountability.

Garcia told CNN before the election that “Democratic priorities” would be lowering the cost of “gas, groceries, the mortgage, the rent,” alongside combating government corruption.

Before the election, “Squad” Rep. Delia Ramirez, D-Ill., wrote in a PBS-Chicago voters guide that there is “no question that the rising cost of living is the number one issue” for a “working people’s agenda.”

After the election, however, her tone appeared to change:

“Noem, Markwayne, Miller, Homan, Bovino, what’s up? Clear your schedule,” Ramirez said.

During his first term, Trump often recited the lyrics from Al Wilson’s song “The Snake.” It told the story of a woman who takes a half-frozen snake into her home and nurses him back to health. Once revived, he repays her kindness with a poisonous bite:

“I saved you,” cried that woman
“And you’ve bit me even, why?
And you know your bite is poisonous and now I’m gonna die”
“Oh shut up, silly woman,” said that reptile with a grin
“You knew damn well I was a snake before you brought me in”

Like the woman who trusted the snake, voters have once again placed their faith in Democrats’ promises. How many times must they be bitten before they realize they’ve been hoodwinked — again?

With all the trials, maybe people will ignore the gas prices, the cost of food and living. Simple solution that Augustus did…. kill off affluent families in Rome and confiscate their wealth. People forget that “each according to their needs”… is just “needs”…. get on the intersectional bandwagon for anything else.

Obviously, there are a lot of snake trusting women out there.
I doubt that anyone who reads this blog is surprised at these snake oil salesmen.

Democrat run lawless sanctuary cities; going to be great as good people flee and businesses and corporations shutter up and depart for the few remaining red states.

What are the socialists going to do when they quickly run out of other people’s money?

Votes are in, affordability is out—best reflects:

1. Bait and switch.
2, Ha ha. Fooled you again.
3. Now you see it. Now you don’t.
4. There’s a sucker born every minute.
