BREAKING: Haley Stevens Endorses Mike Rogers

Haley Stevens endorses Mike Rogers for Senate, prompting staff resignations and a backlash from Michigan and national Democrats.

Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI) endorsed Republican Mike Rogers for U.S. Senate on Sunday, breaking with Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed two days before the election. The fallout was immediate: Her longtime chief of staff announced his resignation in protest, saying “many” other staff members had quit as well, a staff revolt that exposes the deep split among Michigan Democrats.

Stevens announced her decision in a video after appearing with Rogers at Detroit’s Perfecting Church. She had been scheduled to attend a separate church event with El-Sayed before plans for that appearance collapsed.

The rupture follows a dispute over a Rebellion PAC advertisement linking American support for Israel to higher grocery prices. Stevens condemned the ad as antisemitic. El-Sayed said his campaign had not produced it and rejected its contents.

“Our Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate, Abdul, said that I was no longer welcome in his campaign and that I should stay away,” Stevens said. “And he’s right, and that’s why I am endorsing Mike Rogers for the United States Senate today.”

She also singled out Hasan Piker, the controversial left-wing streamer:

“I don’t belong in Abdul’s campaign. I do not stand with Hasan Piker, who gets trafficked on our college campuses. A dear friend of mine earlier today was saying that education is on the ballot, and she’s absolutely right. And what our students see, what our children see, and who we are as Michiganders, is not hate, and is not what we are getting out from our Democratic nominee right now.”

Stevens stressed that she remained “a very proud Democrat.” That assurance did little to placate members of her own staff, who walked out the door.

In a statement shared widely across Twitter/X, chief of staff Justin German said he and other staff members were backing El-Sayed:

“As Haley Stevens’ Chief of Staff for eight years, I speak on behalf of our team in wholeheartedly supporting Abdul El-Sayed for Senate. This election is too important to sow division or stand on the sidelines. We are shocked and heartbroken by Congresswoman Stevens’ decision to support Mike Rogers.”

German said that “as of this morning, many members of our team have resigned, including myself.” He urged voters to support El-Sayed and Democrats throughout the ballot. He did not provide a count of the departures.

Reported that some staff members had urged Stevens earlier in the week not to endorse Rogers. According to a source who worked on her race, she replied: “Omg why would you think I would do that?!!”

The Democrats’ own accounts of the disinvitation don’t match. Stevens says El-Sayed told her to stay away. Rep. Debbie Dingell claimed responsibility for telling Stevens not to attend the planned Democratic event. When a CNN anchor said the network’s reporting indicated El-Sayed had disinvited her, Dingell interjected: “No, I’m the one. I am the one that talked to Haley. And I am the one that said this isn’t working.”

After the endorsement, Dingell dropped the pretense of unity and issued a far less diplomatic statement accusing Stevens of “continued efforts to get attention” and calling for Democrats to remain focused on electing El-Sayed.

Chuck Schumer also released a rare unity statement:

El-Sayed narrowly defeated Stevens in August’s Democratic primary. Now, with Michigan preparing to choose a successor to retiring Democratic Sen. Gary Peters, Rogers has secured the endorsement of the Democrat his opponent beat. (Associated Press)

The Democrats had planned a Sunday show of unity. Two days before voters go to the polls, they got a Republican endorsement, a staff walkout, and a public fight over who disinvited whom.

UPDATE:

Abdul is not taking the news well:

MS Now commentator and one of Sayed’s biggest supporters, and left-wing hack Mehdi Hasan, is not taking the news well either, having a meltdown on TV:

UPDATE 2:22 PM

The Michigan Democrat Party chair has some harsh words for Stevens:

Something about Democracy dies in darkness, huh?

UPDATE: 2:30 PM

President Donald Trump has come out praising Stevens.

Meanwhile, Democrats are still seething with rage at Stevens, who, even up until last night, was still supporting Sayed.

UPDATE: 3:32 PM

Just yesterday John Fetterman had pushed back on Schumer’s unity call and comes to Steven’s defense.

UPDATE 3:45 PM

Hasan Piker goes off on an unhinged rant against Stevens *language warning.*

Good for her, she is a mench. I just wish she had done it much sooner, so it could have made a difference.

She can kiss any political aspirations with former Democrat party goodbye.

It takes a strong spine to commit political suicide like that.

Is she? Waiting this long to finally announce this and letting all of his anti semitic rhetoric and America last stuff go unanswered for “the good of the party” ? Looks more like trying to save your political career as the tides are turning to me.

The battle lines for the former Democrat Party have been drawn.

Time to buy plenty of popcorn and soft drinks.

I agree about the internal power struggle within the d/prog coalition of tribal grievance grifters but strongly suspect the battle lines are not close to finalized. There’s gonna be more internal fighting broadly between the old guard faction and younger upstarts along generational cohort lines and between the tribes themselves as they attempt to lay claim to the most victim points in their oppression olympics.

“Good, good. Let the hate flow through you.” — Sheev Palpatine

Dem on Dem (metaphorical) violence is always entertaining.

Q: Do you consider yourself a MAGA Republican?

A: I am what this country needs: a Blue Dog Republican.

Biggest shocker here is that there is any Democrat left with even a facade of integrity, other than Fetterman, maybe

She has none. Waiting until early voting is over and it is starting to look not so rosy for the anti semite America hating muslim to finally come out and try to save her political career? Monday I hear Jizzy Crockett is going to endorse Paxton. She is a spineless political weasel in my book

“…prompting staff resignations and a backlash from Michigan and national Democrats.”

…because non-supporting that D-race disrupts the grift. The “local” campaigns are all about how they help grab national power, then what “fundamentally transform.”

…because The Screaming-Ds are entirely about grasping government power through political means; by any means necessary. Hard to get a cut of no operation, and there’s no operation like a monopoly of force and claim of mandate in “our territory”, I mean district.

“Senate Democrats are united in support for…” — says Chuck-y.

…because, indeed that’s the game. “United D-reign, divided we fall.” Principles, outcomes, larger commonality or representing their regional voters have less than nothing to do with The Screaming-D agenda. Get your cut, as long as you stay in line. Yr job right now is to help us wrangle the rubes.

…because the staffers and the rest can’t associate with an apostate. They’re already on double-secret probatin letting their charge get this far.

Lemme see: the choice for Michiganders is between an antisemitic loudmouth more interested in representing the Muslim.Brotherhood and who’ll start running for President before he’d even be sworn in…as opposed to a low-key, MOR, talk-to-anybody Republican who’ll work his a** off for his constituents. Tough choice, huh?

“Congresswoman Stevens is not a current member of the Michigan Democratic Party, nor will she be in the future.” She is going to practice becoming an American. Now the people she left, the Bolshevics or the White Russians will fight each other maybe.

Ah, crap. Now I’m gonna be getting Haley Stevens beg texts from WinRed.

“The Fetterman Squad! A Quinn-Martin™ Production!”

As for Schumer…

“Just about every statistical measure shows that when you have a gun on your person in your home, and you try to use it in self-defense, you are more likely to get hurt or killed than if you didn’t have the gun.”
— Senator Charles Schumer, D-NY, 12/7/94 (MLNH)

So, in Michigan, either you support the communists, DSA, and Muslim Brotherhood terrorists, or you get kicked out of party. How’s that big tent diversity working out?

Seems like Rogers is now the bipartisan choice, El Sayed the choice for haters.

Another reason why early voting is a bad idea, if you actually want an informed electorate casting a vote.

An “informed electorate” is the last thing politicians want these days. The dumber the voter, the better the chances for the worst candidate to prevail. Elections are just one huge farce these days.

For people who are upset with Democrats who say that Stevens isn’t a Democrat anymore – don’t people in a club get to say who’s a member?

Are they required to accept someone who blithely disrespects a fellow member by not only by not supporting him but actively supporting his enemy?

Whatever happened to freedom of speech but not freedom from consequences?

Maybe we ditched cancel culture too soon.
