Student Govt. Leaders at Hofstra Attend Oct. 7 Anti-Israel Counter-Vigil

Pure ignorance. Many of these students probably have no idea what even really happened on October 7th.

Hofstra SGA leaders attend Oct. 7 anti-Israel counter-vigil led by student government official

Multiple Hofstra Student Government Association (SGA) leaders attended an Oct. 7 counter-vigil organized by Student Voices for Palestine (SVP), whose president also serves as SGA communications chair.

As Hofstra Students Supporting Israel (SSI) held an indoor Oct. 7 memorial, SVP President Adiba Mansour, who also serves as SGA communications chair, addressed “those who support Israel’s genocide in Gaza” at a counter-vigil outside Hofstra Hall.

SGA President Maisa Ahmad and Vice President Jacob Iacobovici also attended the counter-vigil.

Ahmad and Iacobovici initially agreed to comment but later declined, telling Campus Reform that because “this is for a non-Hofstra run news outlet, we will all have to decline to answer.”

Ahmad previously served as the SGA Club Resources Chair and attended an April protest against an SSI event featuring two Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers. At the time, Ahmad was also SVP vice president.

The overlap comes months after SGA issued an April 21 statement saying it would “equally support and defend” students exercising free expression.

Meanwhile, SSI held its Oct. 7 memorial in Plaza Room East with guest speaker Ofir Dayan, who described five “faces” of modern anti-Semitism: the “Neo-Nazi,” “the black supremacist,” the vandal, the Islamist, and the Marxist.

Dayan also argued that “social media algorithms, a toxic campus climate, and crisis flare-ups” allow an “intersectional framework classifying Israelis as the ultimate hyper-white oppressors” to flourish.

Tables inside the memorial displayed candles and photographs over American and Israeli flags to represent some of those murdered by terrorists during the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks.
