Poland Erupts as Tusk Government Moves to Take Over Constitutional Tribunal
Poles took to the streets as Tusk’s government moved against a court that has repeatedly upheld Polish law over EU directives.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and his leftist pro-European Union cronies attempted a coup d’état on Friday night as President Karol Nawrocki headed to Senegal.
It’s also the weekend of All Saints’ Day, which means many Poles would visit the graves of their loved ones.
The situation shouldn’t shock anyone well-versed in Polish politics, especially when it comes to Tusk.
The coup centers on the Polish Constitutional Tribunal, the country’s Supreme Court, located in Warsaw.
In short, Tusk and his cronies want to place their people on the court to force Poland to adopt the euro and anything the EU passes, trampling all over Poland’s sovereignty.
The left knows they might lose next year’s election if the conservatives can maintain unity. The only way to maintain power is to have lefty judges to strike down anything a conservative government would pass.
The always fantastic Polish MEP (Member of the European Parliament) Dominik Tarczyński summed up the situation:
In Poland, we have a liberal-left government led by Donald Tusk, who is the Prime Minister. What is happening right now with the Constitutional Tribunal is that they want to take it over and fill it with their own people.
Why? Because they want to get rid of the Polish currency, bring us into the eurozone, and eliminate our secure borders. They are being pushed by the Germans, who want to spread the burden of illegal migration and send migrants to Poland.
First of all, the Polish złoty is our constitutionally protected currency. They have to change the Constitution to replace it, and without the Constitutional Tribunal, they cannot do that.
So, number one, they want to get rid of our currency and force us to adopt the euro and join the eurozone. Then they want to take our gold reserves, the largest in the European Union, to Frankfurt, to the European Central Bank, which is a German-based institution.
They also want to open our borders. And they want to make sure that when they lose the next elections, which are coming next year, the Constitutional Tribunal will be unable to do anything to stop their actions or reverse what they have done.
There are many more reasons, but I want you to understand one thing: they are under German influence. They are globalists, and we are fighting not just for Poland, but for Europe.
Be like Poland. Be strong. Our nation is strong, and we are going to win this fight!
Polish MEP Dominik Tarczyński is explaining what is happening right now at Poland’s Constitutional Tribunal, calling it nothing less than a COUP D’ÉTAT!

Poland has been officially wiped off the map two times. However, you could say at least four times if you count puppet states, such as under Napoleon and the Soviet Union.
Poland is the one country in the world that deserves to be nationalist and protective of its sovereignty.
Donald Tusk
So who is this Tusk guy? Tusk first served as prime minister from 2007 to 2014 before becoming the President of the European Council from 2014 to 2019.
Tusk’s Civic Platform lost to the conservative Law & Justice Party (PiS) in parliament and the presidency in 2015.
Tusk returned to Poland in 2021 to lead Civic Platform again, and the party became the second-largest bloc in parliament in 2023. But when the then-prime minister couldn’t secure a vote of confidence, parliament elected Tusk as prime minister.
Tusk is chummy with the EU, but has also taken a few conservative steps, such as restricting illegal immigration and strengthening border security.
But Tusk wants closer ties to the EU overall, which threatens Poland’s sovereignty.
Constitutional Tribunal
See, the lefty government appointed Maciej Berek as a new judge. I’ve seen him described as Tusk’s “right-hand man.” The PiS questioned the qualifications since a judge must have 10 years’ experience as a legal adviser.
Nawrocki refused to swear in Berek, which the Constitution requires.
Instead, Berek signed an oath and addressed it to Nawrocki, but the Constitutional Tribunal rejected it.
So, on Friday, Tusk’s lefty government suspended Bogdan Święczkowski, the president of the court, and “strip his immunity from criminal prosecution.”
“Restoring the rule of law is our duty,” Tusk wrote on X. “After years of PiS-led lawlessness, this is a difficult process, sometimes painful, and it requires decisive action. There is no other way.”
From The Telegraph:
Anna Korwin-Piotrowska, the tribunal’s longest-serving judge, announced on Friday she had suspended Mr Święczkowski and taken charge of the court.
Waldemar Żurek, the Polish justice minister, said he had requested stripping Mr Święczkowski and Bartłomiej Sochański, the vice-president of the constitutional court, of their immunity from prosecution in order to bring criminal charges against them for failing to perform their duties.
I honestly cannot find the exact case the lefty parliament has against these two men except “restore the rule of law.”
Tusk & the EU’s Problems With the Constitutional Tribunal
The Constitutional Tribunal’s crime?
It’s been protecting Poland’s sovereignty by upholding Polish legislation instead of the EU.
The EU has even fined Poland over legislation that counters the EU:
Critics in Poland and the EU accuse PiS, which led the country between 2015 and 2023, of imposing political control over key judicial institutions, including the Constitutional Tribunal. The PiS reforms led the EU to impose fines on Poland.
The court frequently ruled in favour of Polish legislation rather than EU law and the EU accused Poland’s highest court of being too close to the nationalist political power of the time.
It helped impose a near-total abortion ban under PiS and was ruled to have failed to meet European standards of judicial independence by the EU’s top court last December.
The PiS reforms led the EU to impose fines on Poland.
Poland is one of the most Catholic countries in the world. I couldn’t even count how many Catholic churches I saw within a block of the hotel I stayed at in Krakow, so yeah, the abortion ban is not surprising.
Protests
Tusk’s coup ticked off the Poles.
Many of them might not remember the German occupation, but they remember the Soviet Union occupation.
Translation:
This shot is a symbol of Tusk’s defeat. They were counting on Poles to be at the graves of their loved ones, President @NawrockiKn in Africa, while the usurpers would hastily prepare some flowers and present everyone with a fait accompli. They miscalculated! Poles were there on the spot, the President turned the plane around, and instead of triumph, there were police cordons, scuffles, and recordings that they themselves published in a frenzy. They wanted to show strength, but they showed helplessness. You can’t barricade the truth!

BREAKING FROM POLAND! Right now, Poles are singing “Rota,” a historic Polish patriotic anthem, outside the Constitutional Tribunal. Their voices rise into the cold night: “So help us God!”!
The message to Tusk is unmistakable: Never underestimate the Polish spirit of freedom. It runs deep in our nation’s DNA.

UPDATE ON THE LEFT-WING COUP D’ÉTAT IN POLAND:
More members of parliament and social activists are arriving at the protests against the abuses of power by Tusk. Mass protest by Poles against the government.
MP @mhorala (@RozwojPlus): “We dreamed of our country being great – yet Tusk wants to turn Poland into a bantustan.
A country where the government uses force to storm the Constitutional Tribunal. This is effectively removing Poland from the community of civilized nations.”

Germany needs “Lebensraum” for its migrant population.
H:mm. Will this crisis start WWiii? I’m being serious.
It is unlikely a world war could start in eastern Europe, especially in Poland
Right. Because that’s never happened before. It’s just a crazy idea!
Archduke Ferdinand may have a thought or two on the subject.
I didn’t think they even still made the Wiii. Would be cool if Poland could revive it.
WWiii is the Wii for folks who stammer.
Also… wouldn’t that be WW eleventy?
Does an EU bureaucracy subverting another EU State require a NATO defense response? Is NATO effectively holding itself hostage at gun point?
Is that NATO spelled USA?
Like this?

Soviet influence over the German communist party (internationalist communists, which meant Soviet-directed and supported communism) after WW I is what led Hitler to create a nationalist socialist movement (Nazism) to oppose Soviet influence in Germany. An irony here is that now a nationalist movement in Poland is growing against German influence over Poland.
Someone needs to point out to the Germans that they’re doing to Poland what the Soviet Union did to Germany, potentially pushing the Poles to an extremism that they might regret fostering.
Communism/Soviet influence was certainly a factor, but it wasn’t close to the only one. Hitler’s hatred for the Treaty of Versailles and desire for revenge, his insane racial fantasies, and his dreams of a “greater Germany” with endless room for expansion to the east were just as strong, if not stronger. If there had been no communism Hitler still would have attacked Russia.
More Commissar Judges on the planet than leaders
Poland should know how this story will play out than anyone if they let the Leftists take over.
The thing about “Democratic Socialism” is that you can elect them in, but then it requires a civil war, a revolution, or foreign military intervention to get them out.
Hitler is the poster child for this.
God there are echos of democrats and what they want occurring in Poland right now.
Just like last time the Germans put pressure on Poland. *ahem*
Tusk does not look like a traitor yet.
They need to make him look like one.
I’m surprised to hear Poland claim that Germany is strong-arming them. I was under the impression that Germany has all it can do to keep from collapsing under the conservative pressure of its own electorate, and that the people who run it find great challenge in tying their own shoes daily.
Hmm. Germany trying to take over Poland. Like, almost an invasion.
Germany invading Poland? Where have I heard that one before? Can’t think of it.
This time, though, they’re not going to invade their own selves. They’re going to let the muslim “refugees” do it.
Meant to upvote.
I’m totes sure all the European National Leadership and obviously the EU itself will immediately condemn this judicial coup that seeks to compromise Polish sovereignty pledging their support to the beleaguered Polish Citizens being attacked from within. Oh wait they haven’t? Maybe it’s b/c their only willing to recognize Russia, Russia, Russia as a foreign threat and condemn their own Citizens who display any sense of Nationalist/Patriotism as the only approved internal threat.
Some of the most hated rulers/leaders in the world are hated because they’re nationalists: Trump, Farage, Orban, Milei, Le Pen, Putin, Bolsonaro. All are painted as threats to civil liberty, tyrants, fascists, Islamophobes, xenophobes, war mongers, etc. This is not an accident. These are the people in the way of the New World Order.
Yep, don’t get between a technocrat and his bright ideas for destroying the Nation State, dissolving borders, rendering Citizenship obsolete, nullifying and/or ignoring the clear policy preferences of the electorate or the additional taxes and authoritarian powers needed to enact their goals.
Hey, man, you must be evil if you stand in the way of their utopia. After all, it’s utopia.
Yep. They have to conscript folks into their utopia v being able to effectively convince folks on their globalist vision so that they join voluntarily. Those of us who object must be forced ‘for our own good’ by the technocrats b/c in their view they not only know what’s best but deserve to rule.
I wouldn’t put Putin on that list.
On the contrary, the EU has been demanding judicial reform in Poland, and condemning the existing judiciary as not independent of the PIS. So it presumably supports Tusk’s move and condemns the court for resisting.
Either you didn’t read the rest of my comment which clearly indicates the political leadership of most European Nations is too busy polishing the knobs of their globalist masters to condemn it even if they actually wanted to (they don’t b/c they agree) or you’re selectively quoting to deliberately misrepresent my argument.
I’m addressing one specific point that you made.
The EU has already long ago taken the position that the Polish courts are anti-democratic and must be reformed, and has fined Poland for not doing so. So it stands to reason that it will celebrate this move, not condemn it.
You didn’t quote the entire sentence you selectively clipped much less the next two which amply demonstrate the point I was making …that the technocratic/globalist Aholes will almost always choose to:
1. prioritize their policy preferences above those of the broader public
2. Attempt to make Nation State obsolete
3. Devalue National Citizenship in preference for dual Citizenship or worse ‘global citizenship’
4. Heap scorn and blame on the internal proponents of old fashioned Citizenship/Patriotism and/or the international boogie man de jour (Russia)
5. Very willing to lie by commission and omission to reframe arguments and science the gullible
6. Make extensive use of strawman and red herring to shift away from arguments that directly undermine their preferred narrative
7. Accuse anyone who notices and objects to their deceitful tactics of bad faith and/or attempt to gas light them into changing their mind
8. Project onto their opponents or even those observers who notice and object all the sorts of shenanigans/bad faith they themselves engage in.
Again, I’m addressing one specific point. Accordingly, as is standard practice and has been for the almost 40 years that I’ve been on the ‘net, I quoted only the part to which I was responding.
Inter alia you assumed that one ought to have expected the EU to condemn this move by the government against the judiciary, but that is not the case. The EU had already condemned the Polish judiciary and taken a firm stand against it, long before this action was even contemplated. So there should not be any expectation that it would condemn this move, and its failure to condemn it needs no explanation.
Dang, I meant to upvote y0u. There is a big fight between the new globalist pro EU government and the courts which are not. If the courts lose this then Poland will move closer to the EU and one of the biggest demands is unfettered movement across borders. That is, more illegal aliens like the ones rioting across Europe now.
“I’m addressing one specific point that you made.”
You’re fact-checking the only sarcastic sentence in the entire post as if it were serious.
You’re precisely like Snopes, obsessively fact-checking the Babylon Bee.
There is a very interesting article over at Poland 24 I read earlier today which examines events leading up to today that initiated back in 2015.
I am certain most will not enjoy the read as it does not support PiS. But, it seems quite comprehensive to me.
Henry, your sentence’s sarcasm depended on a background assumption that one ought to expect the EU to condemn a coup against the judiciary, and so the lack of such condemnation is a sign of hypocrisy. But in this case the EU has for many years condemned this court and demanded that it be reformed, so the fact that it hasn’t and won’t condemn this move against it is in fact completely to be expected and not hypocritical at all.
Good job explaining this. The first several accounts that I read elsewhere were confusing nonsense.
Thanks!
I guess Elissa Slotkin and the CIA deep state trying out a color revolution in Poland to see how it might work out. Sorry deep staters the Polish people prefer freedom, not subjugation.
If the left tried that here it would just be a lot of fires and looting!
I doubt that. The Left here hates the Supreme Court of today. They would cheer the court-packing proposed by Democrats.
Where is Lech Walesa?
Sadly, he seems to have gone all globalist progressive.
Really?
He was a union leader. I can’t think of a single hardcore conservative in such a career.
“Gone”? I think he always was.
Honestly I have no idea the legal ins and outs of this judiciary fight.
But I’ll say that I don’t need to know – the side that tries to declare themselves in power on a holiday while their political opposition is out of the country, and has cops surround their government building so nobody else can get in, is the one staging the coup.
These are NOT the actions of somebody that thinks law and order is on their side.
Hey, remember when the National Guard was slathered all over Washington DC?
Good time!
I guess I forgot that actually happened twice… but I was specifically talking about after January 6, when Pelosi made them “surround government buildings so nobody else could get in” — not when Trump tasked them with enforcing common city laws because the cops weren’t doing it.
too close to the nationalist political power
Yep, it’s all about the globalism.
This article is very one-sided. It may well be on the right side, but without knowing anything about the dispute other than what’s written right here, I can already write a Tusk supporter’s response, spinning all the same alleged facts in the other direction.
I can also very easily imagine the exact same article written about the Israeli government’s 2023 attempt to make some very minimal reforms to the judiciary, reforms that in my mind were far too timid, but which aroused worldwide condemnation and weekly “mostly peaceful” protests on Kaplan St (hence the “Kaplanist” movement), along with accusations of Netanyahu attempting a coup, threats that if the reforms went through there would be a coup against them, at least two arson attacks against Netanyahu’s residence, and not surprisingly it turned out that all this encouraged Hamas to attack in October, which of course took the whole thing off the agenda.
And yet reform of the Israeli judiciary is vitally necessary. In the long term the Israeli judiciary is a bigger threat to Israel than Hamas or Iran. It is Israel’s real government, self-appointed and self-replacing, and every year it gets even more brazen about its control of the elected government.
So when I read this article about events in Poland that I know nothing about, I can only think what if it’s like Israel, and it’s the courts that have made a coup against the state and are now being resisted?
Kind of like the USA
“The left knows they might lose next year’s election if the conservatives can maintain unity. The only way to maintain power is to have lefty judges to strike down anything a conservative government would pass.”
Seems the coup d’etat failed
🙏
Tusk couldn’t have made this look more like a coup* if he tried. Waiting until Nawrocki was out of the country, Waiting until 6 PM local time on a Friday. The Constitutional Tribunal building was surrounded by police apparently BEFORE the crowds arrived.
This is banana republic shit. My gut feeling is that there’s no way it succeeds, though it might not result in the satisfying arrests of Tusk and his cronies that I’d like to see. And sadly the plotters won’t be hung.
*For the record I believe it’s a coup.
open borders open prisons open streets etc etc etc
anything and everything to appease the criminal elements that shut down free speech and gun ownership of the good people while their criminals dont give a st about any of these laws and proceed with their actions of destruction to civility
Why do these people want to get elected so they can be ever more subordianate to an outside authority.
Oh, right. It’s an easy grift; their job is just to hold that place. Beats working. Or thinking. Or leading.
Nevermind.
do not do media myself, but friend said this guy is good:
