One Dead, Nearly 200 Hospitalized in Siberian Pneumonic Plague Outbreak
Pneumonic plague is not COVID: “Many patients die before they develop a well-advanced pneumonia.”
A pneumonic plague outbreak is underway at the BSL-3 lab in Siberia’s Irkutsk region, about 3,231 miles east of Moscow.
Almost 200 people remain hospitalized with suspected plague infection.
This isn’t COVID. The pneumonic plague is serious: “This form of the infection evolves rapidly, spreads more easily from person to person, and is far more deadly, killing 100% of those who do not receive the appropriate antibiotics soon after exposure.”
One woman has died, according to The Moscow Times:
The woman was identified as Daria Sh., a 27- or 28-year-old employee of the Irkutsk anti-plague institute, by the exiled news outlet Lyudi Baikala (People of Baikal) and pro-Kremlin broadcaster REN TV.
She reportedly told medical staff that she had accidentally broken a test tube containing live bacteria while collecting samples for testing.
She was hospitalized Tuesday with symptoms of severe pneumonia in Shelekhov, a town near the regional capital of Irkutsk. She was placed on a ventilator and died Thursday, according to the reports.
The Shelekhov district hospital has been quarantined.
The Irkutsk Antiplague Research Institute of Siberia and the Far East contains Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) operations.
BSL-3 specializes in controlling and studying dangerous bacterial and viral infections, including the plague.
Pneumonic plague is not the same as bubonic plague.
Pneumonic plague is the most dangerous because it can be transmitted between people through airborne respiratory droplets.
The pneumonic plague is no joke. It has nothing on COVID [emphasis mine):
[H]owever, a rapid course and high lethality are indicative of pneumonic plague.
Secondary plague pneumonia results from haematogenous spread of Y. pestis to the lungs, usually due to untreated or advanced infection of an initial bubonic or septicaemic form. A patient has usually been acutely ill for several days prior to lung invasion. Many patients die before they develop a well-advanced pneumonia. Those who do not die may be so sick that their cough reflex lacks the strength to produce finely aerosolized droplets. Consequently, during the early stages of disease, the risk of transmission is high.
Primary pneumonic plague is a rare but often fatal form of Y. pestis infection that results from direct inhalation of bacteria and is potentially transmissible from person-to-person and has the potential for propagating epidemics. The onset of pneumonic plague is most often sudden (with chills, fever, headache, body pains, weakness, dizziness, and chest discomfort) (Figure 33.3). Sputum is mucoid at first, rapidly develops blood specks, and then becomes uniformly pink or bright red and foamy. Tachypnoea and dyspnoea are present on the second day of illness, but pleuritic chest pain is not. Signs of consolidation are rare, and rales may be absent.

Must be election season
I wonder which plague, pneumonic, monkey pox or Ebola, the Communist Dems will use to seize power this time?
The good news is diseases with a high fatality rate do not become epidemic..
Ironically, this is why they can be used as weapons.
Er, um, depends on their RO. Example, the black death, bubonic plague, (mostly pneumonic, you just notice the buboes more) And this may be the lab where the Soviets were working on antibiotic resistant strains
Pneumonic plague helps you remember the name.
I see what you did there.
When I first read about this my first (maybe unfair) reaction was “Why would anyone handle a test tube full of plague bacteria without proper protection?” Maybe it is the usual procedure, I don’t know.
Gary Larson said there’d be days like this.
The question I had is why, if the disease can be successfully treated when addressed quickly, did this employee of the very lab that studies the bacteria, end up dead? I now am guessing that she didn’t want to confess to breaking a test tube and only did so after falling ill.
This one is worth paying attention to, it is real deal dangerous unlike Rona.

Guys, guys. Jurasic Park is a cautionary tale, not a how-to manual.
Morons.
“The pneumonic plague is no joke. It has nothing on COVID [emphasis mine):”
I believe the proper usage is, “COVID has nothing on it”
Thanks. That was one of several missteps in the article.
Interestingly I have been reading a new book by author Annie Jacobsen titled ” Biological War”. It lays out a very similar scenario that starts out of a bio-lab in Siberia that specialized in germ warfare.
Like her previous book on Nuclear War, it continues from a situation that gets out of control so quickly that the end result is the obliteration of much of the world’s population.
As you read it, you will see how it can actually occur.
Frightening.
They may be developing a strain to use in Ukraine.
Why is this being accepted as fact when its only sources are Russian?
I’m not believing this but do think it’s an Op.
Until the State Dept. officially confirms its legitimacy I’m not buying it.
Perhaps, but the Russians have a long history of bad bacteria and screw ups at their labs . Anthrax leaked out back in the 70s
Hard to believe that a lab doesn’t have protocols for handling test tubes, but then this was in Russia. Hopefully this is just a psy op waiting to be pounced on by the fearmongers. We’ll know by the end of the day…
Ha! Have you seen the photo of the intrepid team of researchers at Wuhan just prior to the un(?)planned release of COVID?
Lost in the fear mongering and hysteria is the fact that it is easily treatable with common anti-biotics. No need for crazy untested vaccines.
Lesson learned from Covid:
The rationale behind these hundreds of biolabs worldwide studying infectious diseases (many/most of which they are performing gain of function research on, making them far more deadly) is that they want to have vaccines ready in advance in case of a breakout.
Problem is, as we saw with Covid 19, once there is a lab leak and the disease starts spreading – the virus mutates faster than the vaccines can be rolled out. So, every month or so they have a new vaccine for the new variant, and they can’t keep up.
Then, of course, the other lesson: They keep leaking the viruses from these labs. And, because they’ve done gain of function research on them, they are far more deadly than anything that exists in nature.
But, hey, each lab creates a vast bureaucracy of overpaid “scientists” entirely dependent on government funding and therefore reliable voters for lefty political parties – and that’s all that really matters to policy makers in government.
