Left-Wing Student Groups Demand University of Arizona Ban ICE

“Organizers gave administrators until 5 p.m. Oct. 23 to respond.”

Why do leftists always think they are in a position to make demands?

Campus Reform reports:

Left-wing coalition demands University of Arizona ban ICE

A coalition of left-wing student and community organizations is demanding that the University of Arizona in Tucson ban federal immigration agents from campus, provide free legal representation to individuals targeted by immigration enforcement, and cut ties with certain federal border security programs.

The coalition announced its campaign on Oct. 12, sending demands to university President Suresh Garimella and the Office of the General Counsel. Organizers gave administrators until 5 p.m. Oct. 23 to respond.

The coalition includes UA Resist, Feminists Organized to Resist, Create, and Empower (FORCE), Planned Parenthood Generation Action, Students for Socialism, the National Lawyers Guild’s campus chapter, DeFlock Tucson, and United Campus Workers of Arizona.

The seven demands include barring Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) from university property, student housing, and Banner Hospital.

Organizers also want the university to provide free legal representation for students and employees targeted by ICE, distribute classroom toolkits explaining how to respond to immigration enforcement operations, and conduct departmental training.

Additional proposals include prohibiting the Department of Homeland Security from attending university job fairs, restricting the sharing of student information with federal immigration authorities, and removing surveillance equipment that tracks individuals without warrants.

The coalition also demands the abolition of the National Center for Border Security and Immigration within the university’s Eller College of Management.

One participating organization, Students for Socialism, promotes “political education” about capitalism and socialism, organizes direct actions, and collaborates with other student organizations, the university’s website states.

“Why do leftists always think they are in a position to make demands?”

A 2012 opinion column by Michael Thomason in the Advocate and Democrat explains:

“Years ago, there used to be a scam where somebody would place a classified ad in a newspaper that said, ‘Send $1 to this address,’ and the address was usually a post office box. And that was all it said. It didn’t offer anything or claim that the money would go to a worthwhile charity or organization. It basically said, ‘Give me a dollar.’ And it supposedly worked. I’ve heard tales over the years that the person taking out the ad could make anywhere from $500 to $1,000 before somebody said, ‘Hang on a minute.’”

My philosophy teacher at Pasadena City College attended university during the HUAC era. He mentioned a classmate who had a bunch of certificate printed up, and then placed a classified ad: Sworn Loyalty Oaths, $25.

    Nice little cottage industry.

Correct response to students: “Dump your demands in one hand and s**t in the other. See which fills up first.”

Ignorant, stupid, and arrogant communists, all:

UA Resist, Feminists Organized to Resist, Create, and Empower (FORCE), Planned Parenthood Generation Action, Students for Socialism, the National Lawyers Guild’s campus chapter, DeFlock Tucson, and United Campus Workers of Arizona.

Little problem: Arizona Revised Statutes 11-1051:
A. No official or agency of this state or a county, city, town or other political subdivision of this state may limit or restrict the enforcement of federal immigration laws to less than the full extent permitted by federal law.

That would seem to explicitly bar this. But AZ’s Attorney General Kris Mayes oddly concluded that it only applies when ICE has a warrant. That makes no sense — when ICE has a warrant no state law is required to allow it access to any property that is specified in the warrant. The state law is only necessary when ICE doesn’t have a warrant.
