Pete Buttigieg Says Dems Must Pack SCOTUS Because It’s Too ‘Partisan’

During an appearance on Meet the Press on Sunday, former presidential candidate and Biden Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg suggested that Democrats must pack the U.S. Supreme Court because it is too ‘partisan.’
This is one of those fun complaints that you never heard from Democrats when the court was majority liberal. It is only now that this is a problem, even though none of the rules have changed.

Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg argued Sunday that the Supreme Court has become dangerously partisan — then proposed a fix that would require Congress to add six justices widely expected to lean in his own party’s favor, during an appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press.
Buttigieg told host Kristen Welker that the court has come to look like a “nakedly partisan institution” and calling for six additional justices to be added to the current nine-member bench — a bigger expansion than he has previously floated.
“It has become a nakedly partisan institution,” he said. “And I want to be clear. The idea is not to just add justices for its own sake. The idea is to reform the institution, to make it less partisan.”
The comments extend a message Buttigieg has delivered repeatedly since at least July, when he told Fox News that public confidence in the court had fallen to what he called the lowest point in its history, and proposed a package of changes including term limits for justices and a “balanced bench” selection process meant to reduce political influence over appointments. At that time, Buttigieg said he favored expanding the court from nine seats to 13, a number he said should match what he called “the number of districts” in the federal system. In fact, the federal judiciary has 94 judicial districts; the number 13 refers to the appellate circuits, not districts — an error critics flagged after his July remarks.
His Sunday figure of six additional seats, bringing the bench to 15, aligns instead with an academic proposal first advanced by law professors Daniel Epps and Ganesh Sitaraman, under which judges would be divided evenly between the parties with a final bloc chosen by consensus.

This is Buttigieg complaining that the rules must be changed when they no longer favor Democrats. It’s the same argument they make about the Electoral College every time they lose a presidential election.

“Nakedly partisan” that’s a hoot coming from Buttgig.
In Buttagigger’s case, even in those special times when he is wearing clothing, he’s still nakedly partisan.

Summary of the Democrat argument: The Constitution is unconstitutional.
If government is limited, then that which does the limiting is unconstitutional.

The perfect follow up question would have been “So Trump should nominate four more Justices tomorrow morning?”
The number of justices is controlled by Congress. So a bill should be submitted raising the allowed maximum to 13, The bill should be fast tracked by Congress. Upon approval Trump should submit 4 nominations. The democrats get want they want….kinda. Well not really. They get the numbers only.
First play out the card that limits the amount of justices to the current number. Then, when they sqwak about that, increase the number & submit the nominations concurrently.

They aren’t partisan, or conservative, rather the R appointed justices are constructionist. They view the constitution as the contract it is, and word matter..
I agree, even if that means my position doesn’t win.
If you ask people which type of contract the want to be part of? One that is defined clearly or one that a single party can reinterpret at will?
If you need to come up with novel legal theories as to how your position needs to win, you probably don’t deserve to win

How can a grown man be this stupid? If they were to pack the court, what do they think would happen eventually with retirements and new POTUS’? There would eventually be the same results but with more people on the court. This is scary that someone this dumb can be high on the list for Democrat nominees for POTUS!
If they win control of Congress, and then pack the court with partisan Democrats, they’ll be able to pass laws guaranteeing that Republicans will never win the presidency or the senate again, and so will never be able to appoint more justices who are not partisan Democrats. Or at least that’s what he’s betting on.
At least we would never have to concern ourselves with the new court defining what a woman is….

I really would have no issue with a 15-member court, serving with 20 or 25 year terms (grandfathered). That is still small enough to have meaningful discussions with meaningful dialogue. Where I have the problem is that the Dems want to use that expansion to expand their own power. That’s not a theory. That’s their own words. Adding six KBJ to the bench would radically rip this country around and tear up hundreds of judicial decisions protecting freedoms and independence, while adding six Justice Thomas to the bench would change…almost nothing.
Why stop at 15. Why not 535. Let each congressman and Senator have their own justice,
