I’m shocked she didn’t mention Venn diagrams.
Artificial intelligence, social media, and algorithms popped up in a conversation between former Vice President Kamala Harris and BigBoyTV host Kurt Alexander.
Harris tried to explain algorithms and, well, yeah:
HARRIS: They’re trying to dumb people down, with the assumption that people don’t have any interest beyond what they’ve already seen. Think about that.
ALEXANDER: Oh, yeah, the algorithm.
HARRIS: Right, but the algorithm suggesting I have no more interest because I’m looking at this yellow flower. I’m only interested in yellow flowers.
ALEXANDER: Right, so here’s more yellow flowers.
HARRIS: As though my brain can’t handle the fact that there may be a pink flower that I might be interested in looking at, right. And so part of it is understanding how the algorithm is manipulating us and figuring out how we’re gonna psych it out a bit.

People with critical thinking skills can figure out what Harris is trying to say. I get it. Algorithms try to manipulate us; they try to lead us away from what we are interested in.
But if you cannot coherently explain your thoughts with your voice….don’t speak.

I missed drunk Auntie and her kindergarten-esque to take complex concepts and render them meaningless. Yes the algorithm is manipulating us and yes we do not thoughtfully engage with the : why, who and for what purposes questions. It isn’t about just making us dumber it’s about making us arrogant, angry and suspicious. And she’s one of the power brokers perpetuating it.
It seemed to me that the algorithm was steering you to things you were interested in, far from manipulating you. The algorithm is trying to keep you tuned in, is all.
Algorithm seems to mean intention of the guy who wrote the program as exhibited by the program, in popular use.
One has to get past Kamala being a retard (she is… stone cold) and start questioning the mental acuity of her handlers.
There is a way to come off as a good leader if your not smart. Most leaders know very little about all stuff anyway. It’s a narrow path and involves being a VERY nice and good person. I don’t think she is either of those things, so the path becomes even more narrow.
Obama pulled it off- and was even asked about Hanford and the super fund clean up sites while campaigning in Portland. He said he didn’t know squat about it. (the Willamette river in PDX is a superfund site and the columbia flows through PDX as well). Dumb as a box of rocks, but still pulled it off.
She seems to believe that if she cackles “just so” and tips her head toward the audience that everyone will cackle along and forgive how stupid she is.

As a professional with a graduate degree in Computer Science, I can say that the entire notion of “the algorithm” is hilarious.
Frankly, it seems some people just like the word “algorithm”, and probably “mnemonic” as well. They have a sound of great knowledge but both are names for a process of evaluating and organizing information.
She is far dumber than most have even dreamed she was. What on earth made her “think” she could say anything about AI?? Good Lord.

Algorithms tend to keep you penned in with subjects you have already shown interest in, and don’t lead you away to explore alternatives — they “harden your bubble.”
