UC-Berkeley Student Paper Worried About Lack of Minority Admissions

Minority admissions are up across UC system, but not Berkeley. Its student paper is worried.
Student admissions in the University of California system for the coming school year “as a whole” increased for African American, Latino, and Asian Californians, but such was not the case at UC Berkeley.
According to the its student paper The Daily Californian, minority applicants have been “hit hardest” by the school’s increasingly selective admissions.
The paper reports a “record-breaking” 251,907 people applied to UC Berkeley for the coming year, but only 10.5 percent were admitted. Black enrollment dipped 18 percent from the previous year, while “Latine/Latinx/Chicanx” (the paper uses all three terms for “Latino/Hispanic”) dropped 9.8 percent.
On the other hand, Asian enrollment increased (one percent), as did “Asian URM” (“under-represented minority” Asians such as Laotian and Hmong, 14 percent), and Pacific Islander (eight percent).
In addition, UC Berkeley admits more international students than other UC schools.
OiYan Poon, a University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign “race scholar” who served as an “equity” adviser to Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, told the paper UC Berkeley’s enrollment figures are “a deep concern.”
“California is a very diverse state, and if other campuses are able to find talent out there regardless of background, (UC) Berkeley really should be able to do that too,” Poon said.
Associated Students of University of California President Margaret Solomon, an immigrant from Nigeria who came to the U.S. illegally at age nine, said UC Berkeley “didn’t interact” much with her high school located in the “Latine Inland Empire.”
“I think it’s very important that we send recruiters to different communities all around, especially … places that might not be feeder schools or places that might have students … that aren’t really excited about a certain college,” she said.
Interestingly, if the drop in UC Berkeley white student enrollment is taken into account, the difference in minority admissions decline comes to a total of under 200 students; that is, the total decrease of black, Latino, and Native American students (385) vs. the total increase of Asian, Asian “URM,” Pacific Islander (66) and decrease of white students (125).

Oh, the horror. A university sets admission standards and criteria and keeps to them – for EVERYONE. How awful!
These students have reason to be disturbed by the low level of minority admissions, but they are focusing on the wrong targets. The culprits are the Democrats, who support teachers’ unions at the expense of good education and who promote policies that cause the vast majority of minority children to grow up without the influence of caring fathers. These foolish youngsters wrongly blame people who advance the critical idea of meritocracy and believe all races and ethnicities should be able to benefit under such a principle.

I wonder if there are too many big black men on UC Berkley’s teams and no short Mexicans.
If admissions demand quotas, so should sports, correct?
I was told by UC Berkeley grad that asians or asian americans are now 40%. I don’t know if that’s real. But what does minority mean? It used to mean non-white?
