Shock Loss For DSA Candidate Hong in Wisconsin Dem Governor’s Primary
This race offered another reminder that voters — not pollsters, pundits, or prediction markets — ultimately decide elections.
In what is surely one of the most astounding polling misses of the 2026 primary season, Wisconsin Assembly member Francesca Hong’s commanding 20-point lead over Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley in the state’s Democratic gubernatorial primary collapsed entirely once the voters weighed in.
Shortly before 4 a.m. E.T. Wednesday, The Associated Press called the race for Crowley. At that point, with more than 95% of the vote counted, he led Hong by 3,279 votes out of nearly 789,000 ballots cast. The New York Times had Crowley at 39.78%, Hong at 39.37%, and state Sen. Kelda Roys at 7.49%.

Few races this primary season have seen as many twists and turns as this one.
In early July, Crowley, seeing no path to victory, suspended his campaign and endorsed Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez.
Rodriguez withdrew from the race on July 17 after her campaign was rocked by serious financial reporting problems. It was revealed that the campaign had hundreds of thousands of dollars less cash on hand than previously believed.
One day later, after securing the endorsement of Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers, Crowley reentered the race.
According to The Associated Press, Evers had initially declined to endorse a candidate in the primary. His subsequent decision to throw his support behind Crowley likely reflected growing concern among the Democratic establishment that the uber progressive Hong could win the party’s nomination only to lose the general election.
Crowley and Evers have since barnstormed the state together, and clearly, their efforts have paid off.
The early frontrunner, former Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes, suspended his campaign on July 30, the day that The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel revealed “it was investigating allegations that Barnes had leveraged his role within the state Democratic party to have sexual encounters with young women.”
The far-left Hong watched what had been a narrow lead in early July balloon to roughly 20 points by the end of the month. Her dramatic surge in the polls brought intense scrutiny to her campaign, her past, and some of her more extreme positions.
Hong, a member of the legislature’s Socialist Caucus, has spent the past few weeks trying to distance herself from some of her most radical views. But digital footprints are stubborn things.
Additionally, over the weekend, X user @SwannMarcus89 alleged that big spending by Republican political action committees may have been at least partially responsible for Hong’s spike in the polls throughout the month of July. Swann explains how he arrived at that conclusion in the post below.
So I discovered something interesting today.
I keep hearing Francesca Hong is running some innovative campaign where she isn’t spending money on TV and it’s working like a charm. This confused me because I have family in Wisconsin and I know for a fact there are tons of…

Crowley’s victory complicates matters for Republican gubernatorial nominee Tom Tiffany. Hong was widely viewed as the easier opponent to beat. In a purple state like Wisconsin, her radical worldview was expected to be a tough sell among independent voters and even some Democrats.
Ahead of the primary, the RealClearPolitics polling average of head-to-head matchups with Hong showed Tiffany leading by 1.7 points. Against Crowley, however, Tiffany trailed by 2 points.
The shift becomes even more apparent when looking at Polymarket’s odds on which party is likely to win the governorship in November. On Monday, when Hong was still widely expected to capture the Democratic nomination, Republicans were given a 59.5% chance of winning the general election, compared with 41.5% for Democrats.
By early Wednesday morning, the picture had completely changed. With Crowley emerging as the Democratic nominee, the odds had swung sharply in the opposite direction: Democrats’ chances had surged to 69.5%, while Republicans’ had plunged to just 29%.
[Note: Polymarket odds can be viewed by scrolling down on the RCP page for this race.]
Crowley’s victory is a remarkable political resurrection and great news for Wisconsin Democrats. Just one month ago, Crowley saw so little hope of winning the nomination that he dropped out of the race. He returned only after Rodriguez’s campaign imploded. With a hearty endorsement from the governor, he proceeded to defeat a candidate who, according to the polls, had opened up a seemingly insurmountable lead.
For Republicans, however, Hong’s defeat changes the complexion of the general election considerably. Tiffany will no longer face a socialist opponent carrying a long record of controversial positions in a closely divided state. Instead, he will face Crowley, a more conventional Democrat who has already demonstrated an ability to defy expectations. The battle for Wisconsin’s governorship just became a very different race.
This race offered another reminder that voters — not pollsters, pundits, or prediction markets — ultimately decide elections.

I thought I was on The Bee for a minute.
That looks like Eddie Murphy!
I thought it was Candy Crowley!
I remember reading that some really bad news about Crowley was about to be released just before he dropped out. Maybe it will now be released. I hate to say it but you know right from the start he is going to get 95% of the black vote, all of the AWFL vote, and of course, the Dem vote. Unless they find something really horrible on Crowley, he will win. This is very similar to CA and the way they ended up with a loser as the Dem candidate, Becerra. He will win even though Hilton is a good man.
Dems blocked her because GOP was trying to push her to victory so she could get destroyed in election
Just read on another site that a few huge vote drops in Milwaukee overnight dramatically dropped her lead and then she lost. It seems that Democrat machines in cities have no compunction towards cheating if they get the word from their masters. Basically what happened in 2020 and also in the LA mayors race. Almost like the country is reverting to the city-state concept of Medieval times.
Right you are Tom. These are Democrats, we’re talking about. This wasn’t so much a primary election as it was an appointment. The Dems knew Hong couldn’t beat Tiffany so they ‘appointed’ Crowley.
If you think that couldn’t be, just ask salty grapes (Bernie) or Kamalalaladingdong if that’s how the dems run.
This is a loss for the GOP
There are already articles on Gateway Pundit of the fumble of USB drives. A commenter there also pointed out that this same thing happened when Abigail Spanberger won her House seat.
Exactly. It wasn’t that the “voters weighed in”, it was the D-party establishment weighing in with a truckload of late night ballots.
Gee, I wonder when the press will ever catch on? /sarc
“In what is surely one of the most astounding polling misses of the 2026 primary season…”
Cut to the meme of Homer Simpson saying to Bart, “So far.”
It all make perfect sense when you realize that polls are not a statistical survey of voter’s views but rather they’re concocted 🐂 💩 meant to manipulate voters into believing things that are not so.
I’ve worked for organizations that engage in statistical analysis and can tell you first hand that this is the case. They’re lying liars who lie. (Your mileage may vary; this was my experience).
I know nothing about Crowley one way or another but even if he turns out to be a lousy governor, he’s infinitely preferable to a deeply mentally unstable socialist.
I don’t think the polls took into account the ‘cheat factor.’
There are lies, damn lies, and statistics. You can make an honest statistician a liar by deliberately subverting the math with underhanded data gathering practices.
….And underhanded data.
‘Shock’. The true shock is some bat crap crazy, failed business woman who openly hated her own mixed-race child was propped up like some puppet by big dark money to run for the highest office in her state, and people actually voted for her as if it’s a board game w/o real world consequences.
Shock should be ‘frightening’.
Isn’t it a stretch even calling her a “business woman”??
Good point. A business ‘they/them’ it shall be.
I’ll be shocked if there’s any daylight between Crowley and Hong in how they’d govern. Crowley just understood that he needed to lie about his positions in order to get elected. Democrats are afraid of the DSA because they tell the truth instead of lying their way into office and then moving left and far as possible (see Spanberger and Sherrill).
The only real difference is appearance.
Thanksgiving came early this year!
Awesome! It sure did for everyone but the odious Hong. She can enjoy celebrating Nakba Day instead, the day she’s nak-gonna be elected.
Maybe not. The republicans were hoping for Hong to win the dem primary, because she would be easier to beat in the general election than Crowley.
No mention of the ‘human error’ in Milwaukee that caused in correct vote totals to be sent in to the State that needed correction?
Hold on. Not ALL the votes have been counted yet. Bag of mail-in cheats is waiting to be found.
In this case the machine put the cheats in for the quitter to avoid an election disaster.
Too bad, I was looking for the loon to be the candidate, to help expose the DSA insane asylum for what it is.
That’s why the Dems cheated her out of winning. They are terrified that they will be exposed as being very much the same as the DSA.
I don’t expect we can chalk this up to anyone actually waking up to soft communism.
Nope. And the DSA is about as soft as a brick anyway. They’re open about it. Whether they will be after becoming the Next Big Thing™ is a different matter.
Which reminds me, I need to go back to their web site and screenshot all the openly Marxist bullshit before it gets memory holed.
After what the Communists did in 2020 to drag Biden* across the finish line it doesn’t seem wise to assume the election system has gotten any cleaner. When it comes to voting fraud and the Communists I have adopted the attitude of “guilty until proven innocent”.
I’m from Wisconsin, no way a Black politician from Milwaukee was going to lose.
The amount of votes from Milwaukee are always manufactured for exactly what you needed.
You know how you see in the movies when one wiseguy gets cheated out of his share he turns informant and tells the cops how the mob steals steals ballots?
I think that if there is even one DSA lover who is in on the ballot fraud, this is a real risk. Someone who would never rat them out in normal circumstances just might do so in these circumstances.
As other commenters noticed, there is a problem with polling and with polymarket. The main issue is well known mathematically, and is the same one that brought us the collateralized mortgage meltdown in 2008.
The mentally lazy use a Gaussian model for polling and market analysis. But Gauss developed his models for truly random events, and it works well for such events where the numbers are nearly infinite. Say like photons moving through a slit, or raindrops. The basic Gaussian model fails when there are discontinuities, boundary conditions, or zero-sum conditions. People — especially stupid people — love Gaussian models because they are easy to understand when they work and do provide usable information when used on suitable data or events. Used to “analyze” incompatible data, Gaussian techniques turn out various forms of nonsense or misinformation.
By their very definition, elections are zero sum, or nearly so. The concept of political parties, again by definition, makes for a discontinuity in choice. Each of these invalidates the use of Gaussian tools. Will somebody use Z-score analysis here? Or odds? If so, that person should have a flashing IDIOT sign on his chest, or at least a button blinking “I failed math — many times”.
So end result is Republicans wasted millions running ads for a socialist? That tracks.
Had the polling held, it would have been an easy Republican win in November.
But it didn’t. So the money was wasted.
Well maybe/maybe not given the late ‘corrections in tabulation’ submitted by Milwaukee. I’m sure it is entirely coincidental that the benefiting candidate, MR Crowley, is the Executive of Milwaukee County… no sir, nothing to see, move along
So they were no more effective than the ads they run for their own people. That tracks.
Maybe we can get them to start running ads for all democrats…
Hong can now move to North Korea where she will feel right at home and be happy.
Hong can now move *back* to North Korea … there, FIFY.
Anybody who pays attention can see the DPRK line in everything she says. A few interesting reads to get an idea of what that sad country is like include “A River In Darkness”, “The Girl With Seven Names” and “An American Spy In North Korea” and, as a refresher, “The Communist Manifesto”. A search on Amazon will suggest other autobiographies by escapees from North Korea.
.
Well she was born in Madison Wisc which some might consider an extension of NK but typically was more Russian at least in the past. Times change though.
When I was in high school I was supposed to go to a model UN in Madison Wisconsin. We ended up cancelling because the riot gas was too thick in the streets at the time. Oy has permeated all the buildings as well. Funny thing now is my group was supposed to represent Somalia. Hahaha.
I didn’t realize that the AP runs our elections and decides who wins. Especially at 4 am.
This is how the Democrats ‘protect democracy,’ by rigging elections and with fraudulent vote counting, stuffing ballot boxes etc.
Nobody seems to have noticed that the results have already been announced. No late mail-in votes, no counting for days, even though the race was very close, no demands for a recount. Very suspicious.
And Hong is all in on supporting the “winner”
Chicken dinner
Crowley is about to get Platnered.
