Michigan’s Jewish AG to Skip State Dem Convention Over Fears of Antisemitic Harassment

It is undeniable at this point that there has been a persistent rise in anti-Israel, antisemitic sentiment in the Democratic Party going back at least a couple of decades. It’s become especially pervasive after the 10/7/23 Hamas terrorist attacks, after which we saw Democratic members of Congress and leftist professors, students, and other agitators launch protests because Israel had the nerve to respond accordingly.
Over the last nearly three years since those attacks, it’s been alarming to see the number of Democrats who have refused to self-police their own side on this issue, the ones who are either in denial about what’s happening or who know what’s happening but choose to ignore it because they don’t want to give their political opponents anymore “Dems in Disarray” ammunition.
Especially disturbing have been the Jewish Democrats, like Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), who seem to believe that the best course of action is to try to work and find common ground with members of their party who would love nothing more than to see Israel wiped off the map.
Michigan’s Attorney General Dana Nessel, a Democrat, is not one of the ones who have stayed quiet on this issue, however. For instance, about a month after the 10/7 attacks, she called out antisemitic Rep. Rashida Tlaib (MI-12) for what she suggested was knowingly using the antisemitic term “from the river to the sea” to stoke anti-Israel/anti-Jewish sentiment:
“This is the slogan of Hamas and one chanted by the same men who slaughtered 1,400 civilians and kidnapped hundreds more. Language matters. Rep. Tlaib, the words that you use mean something,” said Nessel. “The words that you use mean something, both to the Jewish people and those who wish to destroy the Jewish people. Rashida knows this, she just doesn’t seem to care.”
Nessel again went off on Tlaib about a year later after she accused the attorney general of “possible biases” in response to Nessel’s decision to prosecute anti-Israel agitators:
The exchange between Attorney General Dana Nessel and Rep. Rashida Tlaib, formerly friends, stems from Nessel’s decision to file charges this month against 11 pro-Palestinian protesters at the University of Michigan. In a Sept. 12 statement, Nessel emphasized the right to free speech but accused the 11 protesters at the university’s encampment last spring of “violent and criminal behavior,” including obstructing police and trespassing.
In an interview with a local paper the following day, Tlaib likened the campus protests to other demonstrations against racism and for immigrant rights. She told the Detroit Metro Times that Nessel chose to prosecute the 11 because of “possible biases.”
“It seems that the attorney general decided if the issue was Palestine, she was going to treat it differently, and that alone speaks volumes about possible biases within the agency she runs,” she said.
Nessel’s response was to accuse Tlaib of antisemitism:
Rashida’s religion should not be used in a cartoon to imply that she’s a terrorist. It’s Islamophobic and wrong.
Just as Rashida should not use my religion to imply I cannot perform my job fairly as Attorney General. It’s anti-Semitic and wrong.

Here we are in 2026, and Michigan Democratic voters appear to be on the verge of choosing pro-Hamas candidate Abdul El-Sayed as their Senate nominee. Because Nessel has been subjected to repeated instances of antisemitic harassment for being Jewish, she announced this week that she’s opting out of attending the state party’s nominating convention on August 29th because she doesn’t want to subject herself to more of it:
At a roundtable discussion with Jewish leaders and community members from around the state, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said she will not attend the Michigan Democratic Party’s nominating convention in August because she does not feel safe to be there.
“I feel like my presence isn’t going to be welcome. I don’t want to get chased around. I don’t want to get harassed. I don’t want to get yelled and screamed at. I don’t want to get booed off the stage, irrespective of what I’m saying,” she said at the Thursday event. “And I believe that if I go, that is what will happen because it’s been happening to me.”
She criticized party leadership for not responding to concerns she said she has raised about members who have harassed her in the past, and compared the rise of antisemitism on the political left and in the Democratic Party to the proliferation of neo-Nazi organizations in far-right fringe politics.
Nessel said she’s even faced hate-filled harassment from party officials in the state, and filed a formal complaint about it:
She said she had filed a formal complaint within the party about a party official who had called her a neo-Nazi because of her beliefs. “Why is this person more accepted in our party than me?” she asked without naming the official. Her office responded to a request for comment by referring to the recorded livestream of the antisemitism roundtable.

Nessel’s comments also follow turmoil at the Michigan Democratic Party’s endorsement convention in April, where Stevens was booed by attendees. A third primary candidate who later dropped out of the race, state Sen. Mallory McMorrow, said a convention attendee had targeted her Jewish husband with an antisemitic slur.

Unfortunately for Nessel, the few other somewhat sane members of the Democratic Party who are left, and Jews across the country, the antisemitism problems within their ranks are only going to get worse. Hasan Piker is even predicting the 2028 Democratic presidential nominee will be anti-Israel, and he’s probably not too far off the mark.

By now, y’all know who wrote this and when. Nothing has changed in the intervening 127 years, indeed it’s been this way for the past 1,500+.
And by the looks of it, there’ll need to be another Crusade in the near future as Islam is utterly incompatible with western civilization, amongst other things, none of the remotely positive.
As for Nessel, I get it. But as soon as you decide not to participate, you cede control to the enemy. Having pure human garbage like Tlaib in the USA, let alone as an elected official, is an abomination. Better that she attend, take the slings and arrows, and give as good as she gets than to roll over. But that takes monumental courage.
It’s going to get ugly, folks. Islam ain’t going away anytime soon.
If she can’t face criticism, perhaps she’s in the wrong field.

She’s in a party that’s tearing itself apart. Dems took great delight in the RINO/MAGA schism. Now we’re witnessing the Democrat party being pried apart by internal divisions powered by the very identity politics and radical Leftism that were originally employed by them to tear the country apart. It’s in both parties, but whereas it is an unspoken platform of the Democratic Part, on the right it is generally contained to the CTers, and there are quite a few. Those who do not trust government at any level, and believe there is a hidden agenda behind everything., and that hidden agenda takes the form of Israel. They are not nearly as prevalent as the Democratic Party, but make no mistake, they are there.
911, USS Liberty, among others.. Israel is behind it all. Sometimes you have to push them for it to come out, but it is there nonetheless.
Good faith criticism/comments about specific policy differences are fair game and no serious person argues that dissenting views are illegitimate. What’s not legitimate in civil society is a heckler’s veto, unhinged screaming, harassment and intimidation.
She should still go and make them do that. Or maybe she realizes that this produces bad optics and doesn’t want to be the instigator of an own goal?
That could be true. Maybe she has the inside word that the antics will be dialed up to eleventy and she’s unwilling to endure or put her staff/security through it out of legitimate safety concerns. When the AG of a State says things are too dangerous to show up to a political convention b/c of her faith tradition that’s already a public black eye.
The Jewish community has traditionally voted Democrat. It’s time to wake up and smell the coffee.

The extreme left will always turn on their own, like in this case. Nessel always struck me as one of the worst of the Dems, so the schadenfreude is strong.
Now is the time for all Jewish Democrats to unite and vote Republican in the midterms, even if it is only to send a message to the DNC what a disaster 2028 will look like unless there is a change.

Its not her religion they are upset with. She would be stoned in the middle east if she was there for what she represents.
