Jasmine Crockett Abandons James Talarico in Texas
“We’ve tried this, where we’ve got one amazing candidate that’s running at the top of the ticket,” Crockett said. “Beto is a very good example of this…”
Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett lost the Democratic Senate primary to James Talarico in March and endorsed him afterward. Five months later, she is keeping her distance.
CNN’s Laura Coates asked Crockett Thursday night whether she would campaign with Talarico against Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton. Crockett wouldn’t say yes.
“I will be campaigning down ballot,” Crockett said.
Coates immediately followed up: “Why?” Crockett’s reasoning went beyond any primary grudge. She argued that the entire model of Democratic statewide campaigning in Texas is broken, pointing to Beto O’Rourke’s failed 2018 Senate campaign against Ted Cruz as proof that even the best candidate, with all the money and energy in the world, isn’t enough.

“We’ve tried this, where we’ve got one amazing candidate that’s running at the top of the ticket,” Crockett said. “Beto is a very good example of this, raising all the money, doing all the things, running around the entire state. But it’s not enough.”
Crockett said she instead wants to use her time to raise the profiles of candidates who could otherwise be overshadowed by the Senate race. When Coates asked whether campaigning for Talarico and helping down-ballot Democrats really had to be an “either-or” proposition, Crockett said that for her, “it probably is.” She pointed to demands from her FIRE leadership PAC and said she is being pulled across the state.
Then Crockett got to another problem for Talarico: black voters.
Coates asked whether Crockett was hearing much excitement from black voters in Texas. Her answer was no.
“I don’t think that there is excitement,” she said. “Black voters are practical.”
Crockett said they may still vote for Talarico. But she also noted that excitement is what gets people to stand in long lines or show up in bad weather on Election Day.
Crockett has been signaling doubts about Talarico for some time. Asked previously whether she believed he could actually win, her answer was blunt: “I don’t know. I watch money.”
“When I look at the money, if Republicans start spending money in Texas, then I’ll be convinced,” she said. She noted that neither the NRSC nor the DSCC were investing in the race at the time. A signal, she argued, that internal polling on both sides tells the same story.
She is not alone in raising questions about Talarico’s standing with black Democrats. Texas state Rep. Jolanda Jones, a Houston-area Democrat, has accused his campaign of failing to sufficiently engage black elected officials and political organizations.
“Talarico and everybody statewide in the Democratic Party has a black problem, whether they acknowledge it or not,” Jones said. “And inspiration is not going to get us to the polls.”
Talarico still has Paxton waiting for him in November. Crockett gave him the endorsement after the primary. So far, that looks like about as far as she plans to go.

Crockett supporting him would probably help the republicans. That woman is batshit crazy.
And dumb…
Not news. She said this when she first lost, whining and screaming RAYCISM and basically saying the Democrats all knew they couldn’t win the seat but only wouldn’t let HER lose the seat because RAYCISM.
What did Talarico say when he realized Crockett wouldn’t join him at the historic fort?
“Well, I guess I’m Alamo-ne in this fight!”
When you lose Jasmine, you don’t just lose the race—you go from Lone Star to no star.
“Jasmine Crockett Abandons James Talarico in Texas”
My mental image is James stranded in the Pflugerville H-E-B with no ride home, and doesn’t know his address or Jasmine’s cell number.
Talarico has a lot of money, but Paxton is running a poor-man’s campaign.
He should ask Musk for some dough—after all, the guy’s got plenty of bread!
It wouldn’t be legal for Musk to simply write a check for $50M. A little detail called contribution limits.
Democrats having problems with black voters?!?!?!?!
Have I died and gone to heaven?
Don’t put in the bank.
But there is a frost warning up in Hell.
Not really. Black voters may not be jazzed up about Talarico, but they will vote for him when the Dem ballot harvester knocks on their door and asks them to fill out their mail-in ballot. This strategy won’t work for Paxton because most R voters don’t use mail-in ballots.
This is a win for that weirdo Talarico, Crocket is toxic.
She might not be wrong, in that establishment dems can be quick to slip back into their old ways of taking the black vote for granted.
She won’t do it because he’s white. It’s that simple. Watch her come out for someone who shares her skin tone.
She is clearly a racist person. She said of illegal workers that they were necessary because “we’re done picking cotton.”
Or, in her case, spandex.
Jasmine isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer. Her support could be a death sentence.
Talarico is flush with hate cash from various Communist organizations nationwide and is flooding TV with ads. By contrast Paxton – frozen out by big GOP donors enraged that Cornyn lost – have closed their wallets in hopes the open-borders big government subsidies Talarico will win. They see a Communist senator as a better bet for putting taxpayer cash in their pockets the way Cornyn did for decades.
This is according to my spies still in the GOP. Frankly I trust them because they usually get the final results pretty good.
Paxton is just a weak campaigner, he’s not good at fundraising. Trump is coming to dallas to campaign for him in September. Cruz is stumping for him. If paxton only manages to win by slim margin, it will still be symbolic victory for dems and they will pour massive resources into future texas elections trying to flip the state.
Both Paxton and Talarico are bad candidates, at least compared to Beto v Cruz.
