FDA Approves First mRNA Flu Vaccine for Older Adults

FDA Approves First mRNA Flu Vaccine for Older Adults

The COVID vaccine used the same technology.

The FDA approved Moderna’s first mRNA flu vaccine for older adults at higher risk of infection.

“The FDA approval of mFLUSIVA, our fourth approved product in the United States and the first mRNA-based flu vaccine, demonstrates the continued strength and versatility of our mRNA platform,” said Stéphane Bancel, Chief Executive Officer of Moderna. “Flu remains a significant public health challenge, and mFLUSIVA provides an important new option for America’s seniors. This approval also reflects the ongoing potential of our mRNA platform to help address important public health challenges through continued scientific innovation. We are grateful to the clinical trial participants, investigators, regulators and Moderna teams whose contributions made this milestone possible.”

The vaccine targets adults aged 50 through 64. Moderna tested the vaccine in 40,805 adults in that age range across 11 countries.

The trial found the mRNA vaccine 27% more effective than the standard shot

Moderna claimed Phase 3 “demonstrated an acceptable safety profile for mFLUSIVA, with no new safety concerns identified, consistent with previously reported studies of mFLUSIVA.”

The company can produce the vaccine in two to three months, making it available for the upcoming flu season.

The COVID vaccine used the same technology. From USA Today:

While the technology behind mRNA vaccines has been in development for decades, it came to the forefront during the COVID-19 pandemic, when drug companies Pfizer and Moderna rolled out the first shots to fight the respiratory virus.

Though mRNA science has shown promise in treating or preventing disease beyond COVID, known vaccine skeptic and Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has rallied against its development, canceling roughly $500 million in related projects in 2025. Earlier this year, the FDA, which operates under HHS, declined to review the mRNA flu shot before changing course about two weeks later.

Well, that’s one way to guarantee that intelligent people won’t get that vaccine.

Run as fast as you can in the other direction. Attenuation is the only, and safest, way to go.

There must be a spreadsheet somewhere that shows culling the 50-64-year-olds will save the government money and/or line the pockets of the Uniparty and their cohorts.

WOW!! EXCITING NEWS!!

I can’t wait to see how this turns out in 5 years or so. I might even consider it, depending….

Thinning the herd.

‘27% more effective than the standard shot’

Twice of nothing is still nothing.

“The COVID vaccine used the same technology.”

So, mass death from blood clots?

Trump administration must have put pressure on RFK jr

He didn’t want this

Wouldn’t be surprised to see him stepping down, though recently hh was asked and said no, planned to stay the entire 4 years

    Trump Admin? TDS much?

Overwhelmingly more likely Pharma speaking fees and future employment were the motivators.

I’ve gotten the flu shot every year. I won’t get the mRNA shot because i don’t trust the premise behind it. Hopefully I will still be able to get the old fashioned shot.

Me, too. The old flu shot, but not the mRNA flu shot.

No problem if it makes you feel better, but from what I’ve read elsewhere, flu shots in general are for the past year’s version, and possibly not very effective on the latest variant.

They attempt to project what the year’s strains are going to be. Sometimes they are right. Sometimes they are wrong.

MOST of the time they are wrong ….
I am 70 haven’t gotten the flu shot since I got out of the military in 1996 … every time
I got the flu shot .. I got the flu … since 1996 I haven’t had the flu except for covid.
and that was one time. felt like crap for 10 days … then better … no flu shot of any kind for this boy….

Flu shots are useless absolutely useless

I stopped getting any shots 7 years ago. I am 65 and I will not take any shot again. Get Bruce Willis to explain it to those who push the shot.

After COVID, I’d never touch any drug from either Moderna or Pfizer.

50-64 age group…I’m beyond the window now at age 80. I might just die from death.

I have never had a flu shot and I’ve never had the flu,…I got a covid shot and,…you guessed it, I got covid!

I along with most on our campus took the first Moderna. I didn’t get anything then but when I went for my annual check up and gave blood, the next day my Dr. called with serious concerns about my blood platelet count. I have never had any blood problem except in 2008 when I was diagnosed with PSA reading advancing and yep, cancer. Platelet count was never as issue. I was sent to a hematologist to get further tests to see if cancer was present. Nope. So I went back every six months for 2 years and gradually my platelet count stabilized and I am released from care.

One word: Nope.

I guess if you’re serious about reducing the population, it pays to throw frequent bones to those who have established themselves as the easiest to gull.
