White House Report Details the Wokeification of the Smithsonian American History Museum

“Not all Americans follow academic theories or curatorial fashions, but they do understand when a revered public institution has traded settled truths and basic history for political activism and division.”

Left to their own devices, the radical left will infect everything it touches with wokeism, something the Trump administration further exposed early on in its second term by, for example, taking a closer look at where USAID’s taxpayer money was going.

And there was plenty more where that came from, as Legal Insurrection extensively documented:

Another way the anti-Americanism is coming under the federal microscope is by way of an Executive Order issued by President Trump in March 2025 on “Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History,” where it was noted that “museums in our Nation’s capital should be places where individuals go to learn — not to be subjected to ideological indoctrination or divisive narratives that distort our shared history.”

In a section on “Saving Our Smithsonian,” here is what was put in place:

The Vice President, in consultation with the Assistant to the President for Domestic Policy and the Special Assistant to the President and Senior Associate Staff Secretary, Lindsey Halligan, Esq., shall work to effectuate the policies of this order through his role on the Smithsonian Board of Regents with respect to the Smithsonian Institution and its museums, education and research centers, and the National Zoo, including by seeking to remove improper ideology from such properties, and shall recommend to the President any additional actions necessary to fully effectuate such policies.

A few months later, Trump ordered a comprehensive review of all Smithsonian museums ahead of America 250 festivities.

On July 4th, the White House’s Domestic Policy Council issued a detailed, 162-page PDF report documenting the wokeification of the Smithsonian National Museum of American History (NMAH). They held nothing back.

Here were their key findings:

  1. NMAH Fails to Substantively Present America’s Founders and Founding
  2. NMAH Has “Problematized” the 250th Anniversary of America’s Founding
  3. NMAH Removed “American History” from Its Mission Statement to “Get Out of the ‘America First’ Mentality”
  4. NMAH Has Abandoned Historical Scholarship for Political Activism

They also accused them of “anti-white,” “illegal alien,” and “transgender activism,” and concluded there had been “ideological capture at the museum.”

The serious concerns raised in this report are not about a few exhibits or a few controversial labels. They concern whether America’s premier history museum still presents America as a coherent nation and heritage worth teaching with gratitude and honesty. The Museum can broaden the story without dissolving the story. It can and should acknowledge slavery, injustice, mistreatment of Native peoples, and other grave wrongs without encouraging citizens to view their country mainly through suspicion, resentment, and division. But that is not what the National Museum of American History is doing. As it stands today, it would benefit most Americans, especially parents bringing their children for a tour, if the Smithsonian’s flagship history museum had a label at every entrance that reads: “Warning: the exhibits in this museum were prepared by people who don’t want you to love your country.”

The findings of this report matter beyond the museum world. Not all Americans follow academic theories or curatorial fashions, but they do understand when a revered public institution has traded settled truths and basic history for political activism and division. They do notice when the heroes, principles, and events that formed the country are pushed to the margins. They notice when their children are introduced to inappropriate sexual and ideological content under the guise of civic education. And they object when their children and grandchildren are being indoctrinated to regard their country primarily as a source of oppression and unresolved grievance.

The Rapid Response X account shared some of the other findings from the report:

Naturally, the Usual Suspects on the left and in the media were none too pleased, and they, too, were called out:

There was also fretting about what may come next:

Good. Bring it on. As the saying goes, sunlight is the best disinfectant.

The problem lies with not enough conservative students entering, let alone graduating, from history & social science curricula. The Left has taken them over, it is only to be expected that major institutions like the Smithsonian will be run by indoctrinated leftist curators.

Yawn, this is the same joint that was promoting ‘being on time’ as ‘whiteness’ (or some such inane BS) years ago, and NOTHING has happened.

Wake me up when the sick puppies… the individual people… at the Smithsonian, and other govt entities, are FIRED and thrown out on the street in disgrace for this crap. Also maybe some concerned citizens beat the living sh*t out of them until they learn to STFU with their insane BS. They are intentionally corrupting the minds of our children and destroying our history, a fundamental step in the collectivist takeover of our culture. This is cultural warfare and it’s time we got serious about fighting back.

Until then it’s just cockroaches scurrying when the light it turned on, certain to come back out in the near future to crap on the counter tops again soon..

More like a pit of vipers. Of the woke, by the woke, for the woke. The irony is that everything they rail against has given them a good life…better then their envisioned utopia. It’s not an argument about the glass being half empty or half full….they hate and what to throw away the glass. “Grateful” isn’t in their vocabulary. Ignorance is strength…..

Indeed. A full year writing a term paper compiling all the things we already knew were wrong.
NOW — what is Trump going to do about it and how soon? Or are we better off organizing a platoon of patriot arsonists so we can get moving on rebuilding America?

The Smithsonian is a disgrace.. Just one example is their claim that the slave laborers were involved in the construction of the Washington Monument. Absolutely no evidence to actually support that claim. In fact, all facts suggest otherwise, it was originally a private project sponsored by prominent figures opposed to slavery and was completed after the Civil War, that little effort that put. an end to the democrats’ peculiar institution. And this nonsense lie has even found its way into a garbage Spider-man movie, ensuring it thoroughly corrupts young minds.

Just fire all the bastards even remotely tied to this and then cancel all grants to history departments at college and university, They are free to spout their drivel but we don’t have to subsidize it.

Do I recall that the Smithsonian enjoys NGO status similar to the Fed: the government funds them, but they are not part of the government?

The Smithsonian Institution is a government entity. It was established by the federal government in 1846 as an independent federal trust instrumentality, meaning it operates separately from the three branches of government while still being a part of the federal system

I’m not at all sure what that means. Sounds like a contradiction to me.

2/3 of it’s 1.2B budget is federal appropriations.

The head is a black male historian whose field of study is….. wait for it… Black History!!! Color me surprised, Not. Appointed or elected or whatever in 2019.

Seriously, did anyone think that the communists were going to skip over the Smithsonian on its Long March?
