I know people love college football, and it’s a big draw, but doesn’t this story seem kind of crazy?

Michigan Investigation Into Football Coach Tops $12M
The University of Michigan has spent over $12 million for a third-party investigation into the events that led to the firing of the school’s former head football coach and the culture of the athletic department, The Detroit Free Press reported.
Most recently, the public university paid Jenner & Block, a private law firm hired in late 2025, nearly $200,000 for professional services through May 31, according to invoices the Free Press obtained through the Michigan Freedom of Information Act. That brings UM’s tab for the investigation to over $12 million.
According to the firm’s report, UM overlooked warning signs before firing Sherrone Moore for an affair with his executive assistant, Paige Shiver.

Div1A college football. It can be made into a monster if we all pull together as a team.
I’ve been in Arizona “only” 25 years now, and the Cards are working on their THIRD stadium. (Realized only yesterday, from comments overheard while attending a home improvement fair at their current stadium.)
As an alum and donor (albeit small), I find this very disheartening. Sometimes it seems my old school has become a football team that offers a few classes on the side.
College presidents in Oklahoma had something to say about that.

As a fellow alumni, I likewise am disappointed in Michigan’s deterioration into big money, big law, big woke, and little academic freedom of thought.
The NCAA really missed an opportunity to assert its authority when it didn’t require them to forfeit all of their games in 2023 and 2024 due to the sign stealing scandal. Many suspect that engaging Jenner & Block was a way for them to shield them from having to disclose much to the NCAA, claiming attorney/client privilege. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a slow motion replay of the Platner situation, with new negative information being revealed periodically.
