President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social that he wants ICE to resume its traffic stops, reversing the agency’s decision from Tuesday.
The men and women of ICE are doing a GREAT job, one that has to be done. CRIME IS WAY DOWN IN AMERICA, in many cases with numbers that haven’t been seen in decades. The Open Border Policy of Sleepy Joe Biden allowed 25,000,000 people to pour into our Country, unchecked and unvetted. Many were Criminals, and we have to get them out. In order to do this, we must be strong, tough, and smart, and we CANNOT give up one of I.C.E.’s most important and effective Crime Fighting tools, THE TRAFFIC STOP! Once we do, we are playing right into the criminal’s hands. The Radical Left Dumocrats would like to see this done, but it won’t happen on my watch. Here is the order that went out to ICE personnel:
Effective immediately, all ERO initiated enforcement vehicle stops are suspended until further notice.The directive applies to all ERO law enforcement officers and mandates for personnel suspend from initiating any type of vehicle stop. However, when executing a criminal warrant on a target who is in a vehicle, please work with partner agencies to initiate a stop.All personnel are instructed to prioritize other existing operational methods, outside of vehicle stops, to conduct immigration enforcement activities. Officers should coordinate with their immediate supervisors regarding any ongoing activities impacted by this change.
ICE made the decision after a traffic stop in Biddeford, Maine, left a 26-year-old man dead.
I haven’t written about the incident because I have no idea what’s going on.
We first heard that the officer shot an illegal alien. Then the news came out that the driver tried to run over the officers.
DHS has only released one statement on the traffic stop:
On July 13, 2026, at approximately 7:00 AM ET, ICE was conducting targeted surveillance on the last known address of an illegal alien with a final order of removal. An illegal alien departed the residence in a vehicle. ICE law enforcement attempted to conduct a vehicle stop. The vehicle attempted to flee the scene and, fearing for public safety, an officer discharged his weapon.The driver of the vehicle was struck, and emergency services were immediately contacted. He passed away from his injuries.The Biddeford Police Department and FBI responded to the scene. DHS OIG has been notified and like all discharge of firearms this will be investigated. This is a developing situation, and we will update the public when more information is available.
Notice how DHS didn’t confirm that the man tried to run over the officers.
Last week, an ICE officer in Houston shot and killed illegal alien Lorenzo Salgado Araujo during a traffic stop.
However, DHS stressed that Araujo “tried to run over an officer, prompting one to fire ‘in self-defense.'”
Both of those shootings led ICE to stop traffic stops.
“We are always evaluating our procedures to keep our officers safe and criminals off our streets. We will not disclose or discuss law enforcement tactics,” ICE disclosed to the Washington Examiner.
Not everyone is happy.
“Numbers are going down, we can’t do sh*t,” one source angrily told The Daily Wire.
