‘I Said What I Said’: Sophie Cunningham Stands by Position Opposing Men in Women’s Sports
“I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to go against biological men.”
WNBA star Sophie Cunningham is standing by her “common sense” position that men should not be allowed to play in women’s sports.
“I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest,” she told ESPN for a July 21 article. “And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to go against biological men.”
She stood by those comments when asked about them on Wednesday.
A reporter asked Cunningham, “You talked about wanting to protect young girls who shouldn’t have to go against biological men. Just can you expand your viewpoint on that?”
“I mean, I think I said what I said. I think it’s kind of common sense,” she said. “I think I’ll always believe in that. I think it’s really important to protect children.”
“I said what I said” is the ONLY response necessary when progressives try to bully you into submission.
No matter what they call you, how they try to manipulate you, your reply must be: “I said what I said.”

Cunningham said she wants to protect “little girls.”
She went on to say that her beliefs are based on morality, not politics, and that she doesn’t plan any specific advocacy.
She told the media:
I’m not a very political person, but I do have beliefs. I have morals and I’ll always stand on those and be true to true to who I am and I think people are going to take it how they want to take it, but I have never even really said anything about that.
And so when it comes just to protecting young girls in sport and women in sport, I feel very strongly about that. I think that’s why you have Title IX. That’s why you have some of the greats in women’s sports.
Women in sports have opportunities because of Title IX and other protections.
Cunningham then addressed a question about if the “trans community” could be “targeted” because of her statements.
“I extend love and I don’t dislike anyone,” she said. “I think there is room for absolutely everyone here and I think there’s room to love everyone.
Part of that “love,” she said, is standing up for “biological women” and their “rights.”
Pressed later, she confirmed she “doesn’t care what other people have to say. I know who I am.”
“My people know who I am,” the Indiana Fever star continued. “And hopefully I’m doing them proud and you know, making room for young boys and girls in our world to have a better future than we did.”

Men who want to be women should be in mental institutions, not competing in women’s sports.
Make Mental Institutions Great Again!
Bravo Sophie!
Post puberty transitioning biological men do not belong in women’s sports PERIOD. Anyone who feels otherwise belongs in a mental institution. This goes triple for the women that feel that way. Those women have never and will never compete against biological men and will never suffer the beatdown that would result. Their opinion is based solely upon politics and virtue signaling. They are despicable.
Prior to puberty, boys still have a proven physical advantage.
Do they? I would think not. Of course boys and girls enter puberty at different ages,
I was curious and so I did some research. There are articles that say no difference. There are articles that say there are small differences. What I take away from this is that puberty is a fence and one that that should obeyed for competition and safety purposes.
I would be skeptical of any recent studies since it seems the most outspoken “scientists” are Leftist or Left leaning and would bias there findings thusly.
The problem is that you can make a study say what you want depending on several study planning factors.
Girls have a slight advantage when they enter puberty younger than boys and that flip flops within a couple years.
You can make these differences wash out if you set the timeline of measurement a certain way.
And those articles are wrong.
There are large, very obvious differences.
So obvious, in fact, that no studies are needed.
Because any idiot can see them with their naked eyes.
Of course, there are far too many below ‘idiot’ in control of our schools, our sciences, and our politics.
Boys are stronger, in general, and remain so. In that brief period in which puberty comes on females earlier some girls are momentarily stronger than some boys. But it soon passes.
Boys and girls skeletal structures differ, as does their musculature.
Muscles do not detach and reattach during puberty.
The physical differences between boys and girls are there from day one.
Well the most interesting story I read said there is a small burst of testosterone in the womb that is required to differentiate a male and that it is sufficient for the small 2-4% differences that are seen in pre-adolescents. That small a performance difference can be lost in the noise and in the differing performance of individuals.
No pre puberty CHILD should be hormone blocked or transitioned. Make that decision when you are a legal adult and PAY FOR IT YOURSELF.
As I have said before – Men playing is a trivial issue compared to the vastly more important issue.
The vastly more important issue is destroying a mentally ill persons health by destroying any possibility of returning to a normal life.
It’s not trivial to the women who have been physically harmed by having to compete against men.
I am not disputing having men play in girls sports is bad and evil nor am I trying to minimize the evil.
All I am stating is the men playing in girls sports is just a small piece of the massive evil pushed by the transgender promoters.
Those promoting transgender are truly evil. The are using the mentally ill as toys for their games by mutilating those suffering a mental illness preventing any possibility to returning to a normal life.
“WNBA Warns Sophie Cunningham the League Will Fold if Only Women are Allowed to Play.” The Babylon Bee
Why is the mentally ill person’s health “vastly more important” than the health and potential injury of the women?
Based.
As is that 2nd Base coffee stand in Spokane.
Good for Sophie. I always gave her a lot of credit for surviving in a league of entitled bitchy jealous violent angry black lesbian losers. I give her more for her common sense stance on this issue.
Her Marshal Arts training is evident when she refuses to back down when physically challenged on the court,
We need more and more high profile athletes like Sophie, Martina Navratilova and Riley Gaines to become more and more vocal.
Throw in Chloe Cole and just where has she been?
If one of these freaks thinks he’s a horse, does a surgeon sew a tail on so he can run in the Preakness?
Seems like many plastic surgeons would do anything for a buck.
There exists another important question in this regard: Can a leather worker refuse to make a saddle for such a “horse”?
BAKE THE SADDLE!
Yes.
Good for her for sticking to her guns. I bet she’ll be targeted during a game by the “tolerance” crowd in the league. The front office is probably typing up an indignant condemnation of hate speech.
The WNBA is run by stupid and petty women who can’t stop stepping on rakes.
The WNBA needs to clarify their stance on ‘trans-women’ players. Alls we here from them is AI-legal-slop.
The WNBA currently permits transgender and nonbinary athletes to participate, and the league has had visible examples in recent years, most prominently Layshia Clarendon, who played for multiple teams including the Indiana Fever, Atlanta Dream, Connecticut Sun, New York Liberty, Minnesota Lynx, and Los Angeles Sparks before retiring in 2025
Lifted from an AI,
I do appreciate women and their strong feelings of empathy towards men who are pretending to be women…but this madness MUST STOP…biological women/born female are the only people allowed in women’s sports, locker rooms, and other spaces. Period. Full stop. Done and done…can’t believe we have to discuss and debate this at all.
“She went on to say that her beliefs are based on morality, not politics”. That’s the point. When you love someone enough to tell them the Truth.
Yep, never try to apologize to communists. First of all they’ll never accept it and secondly they’ll use it as a basis for further attacks. Double down and tell them to go screw themselves
What’s insane is that the Dhimmi-crat, slavish, agenda-driven, water-carrying media stenographers/trained seals/lapdogs/lemmings — and, ESPN, as a Disney subsidiary, is part of that cohort — believe that the common sense, equitable, morally upright and rational premise that girls/women shouldn’t face misogynist/predator/exploitative men masquerading as females, in sport, demands an explanation from a person who supports that premise.
The onus should be on ESPN and its vile Dhimmi-crat fellow travelers to explain why moral probity, biological reality, common sense, fairness and federal anti-sex discrimination laws should be totally dispensed with, to allow mentally ill, narcissistic, misogynistic, exploitative and predator male trannies into girls’ and women’s sports.
If men and woman are interchangeable, why don’t we see trans men (i.e., women who have “transitioned” into being “men”) playing in men’s sports? There is clearly a one-way street here, and the traffic on it has a deleterious effect on real women.
What if a large number of male college B-ballers entered the WNBA draft and outcompeted some of the lesbians in the league? I think we’d at least find out who ranks higher in identity politics, trans “women” or “ordinary” lesbians.
Waiting for the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, NCAA, et al, to mandate rosters include 20% biological women and there be at least one woman on the field/court at all times during games. If men can force their way into women’s sports, women need to be legislated into men’s sports. Might prove a point, anyway.
The MINUTE men start taking WNBA and National Soccer Team spots from women a whole lot of women will change their tune.
There was a woman way ahead of her time in seeing the danger. Attacked then and now of course by the Marxists. Janice Raymond, author of The Transsexual Empire (1979).
Good for Cunningham to speak up even at risk to herself. More so b/c she’s a quality player in her own right with a substantial online presence social media footprint. The practical reality is that no matter how much Men across the board or even Women outside the sports world speak in opposition tranny in Women’s sports and spaces the ‘narrative’ won’t shift without Female athletes doing so.
