Anthropology Course at Columbia University Teaches ‘Presumed Whiteness’ of ‘Ideal American Citizen’

“Whiteness, Sentiment and Political Belonging”

Progressive academia is obsessed with race and will not stop trying to use it to divide people.

Campus Reform reports:

Columbia University course teaches ‘presumed whiteness’ of ‘ideal American citizen’

A Columbia University anthropology course this fall will teach students about the “presumed whiteness” of the “ideal American citizen.”

The undergraduate class, titled “Whiteness, Sentiment and Political Belonging,” appears on the Department of Anthropology’s fall 2026 course list.

“Scholars of gender, sexuality, ethnicity and race have long been preoccupied with the terms, categories, and processes through which the United States has excluded or qualified the citizenship of particular groups, including women, immigrants, indigenous nations, and descendants of enslaved Africans,” the course description states.

“Yet it has spent less time interrogating the unqualified content of Americanness, and the work that the imagination of a ‘default’ American identity does in contemporary political life,” it continues. “This seminar introduces students to this problem through an unspoken racial dimension of American political belonging — the presumed whiteness of ideal American citizen.”

Students will also examine “several cases that rendered white sentiment explicit in politically efficacious ways.”

Examples include “the ‘panic’ incited by the destabilization of race-based residential segregation, the ‘paranoia’ of conspiracy theorists, the ‘sympathy’ associated with natural disasters, and the ‘resentment’ or ‘rage’ associated with the loss of racial privileges.”

Catherine Fennell, an associate professor with research interests including “Language,” “Social Theory,” “Critical Theory,” “Slavery,” “Colonialism,” “Race,” “Racial Capitalism,” and “Toxicity,” is teaching Whiteness, Sentiment and Political Belonging.

Fennell also has an appointment with Columbia’s Center for the Study of Ethnicity and Race, which promotes the “study of ethnicity, race and indigeneity and their implications for thinking about culture, power, hierarchy, social identities, and political communities.”

Comments

There are college degrees and classes out there that are a waist of time and money. Columbia seems to have a lot more of those than other Ivey League universities.

“Examples include “the ‘panic’ incited by the destabilization of race-based residential segregation,”
When moving into a black neighborhood (gentrification), moving out of a black neighborhood (white flight) and not even considering a black neighborhood (segregation) are all equally defamed as “racism” by the race hustlers, it entirely frees us to do whatever we damn well please.

How about Achieved Idiocy From The Art Of Asskissing Minorities?

Why isn’t this rank racism, just like Driving While Black?

Reading her page reminded me of reading the spewings of one of my Wernicke’s Encephalopathy patients: not just a word salad, but a whole produce market upturned by a BLM riot night.
