President Donald Trump canceled the signing of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing bill and won’t sign it until Congress passes the SAVE America Act.
“Today’s Housing News Conference and Signing is hereby cancelled until such time as we pass the desperately needed SAVE AMERICA ACT, which I consider to be a National Emergency,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
The housing bill passed the House, 358-32, and Senate, 85-5, with veto-proof majorities.
Trump has 10 days to sign the bill. If it goes unsigned, it could fail due to a pocket veto.
The bill cuts “some red tape to enable more housing to be built and cap the number of single-family homes institutional investors can buy at 350.”
Trump has been pushing Congress to pass the SAVE America Act, which went through the House.
However, Senate Majority Leader John Thune insists he does not have the votes to pass it.
The SAVE America Act would require an ID at the polls and proof of citizenship to register to vote.
