TDS-Afflicted Seattleites Conflicted on Rooting for U.S. Men’s Soccer Team

“‘I can’t do it,’ said Langer, 69, a retired Boeing manager who has replaced the American flag he once flew outside his Everett house with a Manchester United soccer club flag. ‘We used to be the good guys. Now we’re not.'” — Seattle Times report.

It has been a real treat seeing the videos and photos on social media from people around the world who have traveled to America to attend the FIFA World Cup. They are clearly living their best lives as they embrace American culture while bringing a bit of their own to proudly display along the way.

Perhaps the most well-publicized among them has been a man named Freddy from Germany:

There have also been the Scottish fans:

There were the Dutch fans:

And there’s so much more where that came from.

Meanwhile, ahead of the game between the U.S. and Australian men’s teams, which was played on Friday in Seattle, the Seattle Times reported that some TDS-afflicted locals were conflicted about whether to support the U.S. team, with some admitting they would only be reluctantly supporting the team, and others admitting that they wouldn’t be:

From the story:

On one hand, it’s hard for the 47-year-old [Carey Lefkowitz] to imagine not watching the World Cup and rooting for the U.S. players, who hail from diverse backgrounds and have compelling life stories. He wants them to succeed.

On the other hand, it’s hard for Lefkowitz to imagine enthusiastically cheering against their opponents, because he thinks Trump is tarnishing what it means to be American on the global stage.

“It’s not how I expected to feel” about the World Cup, he said a few weeks before the tournament. “I still want the U.S. team to win, but everything that goes with that? I’m conflicted.”

“I’m an American and very proud of the freedoms we have,” Lefkowitz told the paper. “But I can’t lose my humanity, and that’s what I see as happening.”

Another soccer “fan” in Seattle noted that he had pulled up his American flag and replaced it with another team’s flag because he can’t stand Trump:

Ken Langner will be pulling for England because he enjoys watching the English club soccer league and has some English ancestry, he said last month. But he can’t afford tickets to the matches at Seattle Stadium, typically Lumen Field, and — as a progressive who believes his taxes should be spent on healthcare, not bombs — he said he can’t bring himself to fully back a U.S. squad in this moment.

“I can’t do it,” said Langer, 69, a retired Boeing manager who has replaced the American flag he once flew outside his Everett house with a Manchester United soccer club flag. “We used to be the good guys. Now we’re not.”

Not that any of this is surprising when one considers several things, including the fact that leftists typically only feel “patriotic” enough to fly the U.S. flag when a Democrat is president, and how we even have Democrat public figures openly admitting to rooting for other countries in the World Cup:

NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani can’t even be bothered to wear a U.S. team jersey

That comes despite Mamdani opting to wear an Arsenal-themed custom kurta to celebrate Eid ahead of the start of the World Cup.

Mamdani was also present at the first World Cup game held at the New York New Jersey Stadium between Brazil and Morocco, but he opted to wear a New York City-themed shirt instead of a Team USA jersey.

In any event, the fans in attendance for the game in Seattle (which the U.S. won 2-0) clearly didn’t get the anti-America memo:

I don’t like Trump. I didn’t like Obama, or Bush or Clinton or first Bush… Barely like Reagan and that was because I was in the military and he gave me a 13% raise in his first budget after Carter gave us 3% when inflation was over 12%…

But, I always loved my country and rooted hard for the success of our athletes regardless of the Douche Bag in Office.

Given your choice of anyone, alive or dead, who would be your ideal president? Just wondering… (I’m available, by the way…)

Come on Seattle, it won’t hurt you to pretend you Are Americans for a few hours. Then you can go back to whatever you are.

So which “Douche Bag” in the Oval Office gets your vote for “best”?

He liked Carter, because long lines at gas stations taught patience, as well as waiting for hostages to be freed by Satan’s mullahs.

A good reporter can always find a grumpy-pants, and I am sure that there are plenty in Seattle. I watched the game on TV and it was packed with Americans supporting America. When the crowd was chanting USA! I am sure it could be heard in Portland.

Perhaps that made a few malcontents cry but I’m okay with that.

So ashamed and embarrassed yet still sitting on your ass and living in the greatest country in the world while pretending you are somehow better than what you are.

How woke is the US Men’s Soccer Team?
I’m trying to gauge how much effort I should waste caring about this.

Seattle fans, this is fantastic! Keep it up. You’ve got a few Yahoo politicians that got to start understanding. There’s another part of the country that doesn’t believe in tearing it down. Thank you!

No one took a knee. We must have solved structural racism.
