Rice University Offers Course on Taylor Swift Examining ‘Nationalism,’ ‘Whiteness,’ and Gender

“Students in the class will examine all 10 of Swift’s albums and complete written responses, participate in classroom discussions, and write a final essay analyzing one of her songs.”

The school apparently offers multiple courses on Swift. When did higher education become so stupid?

Campus Reform reports:

Rice University offers Taylor Swift course analyzing ‘nationalism,’ ‘whiteness,’ and gender

Rice University, a private research university in Houston, Texas, is offering multiple courses centered on pop star Taylor Swift, including one class examining far-left themes such as “American nationalism and whiteness” through Swift’s lyrics and public image.

Rice will offer “COLL 118 Mastermind: The Taylor Swift Eras” this fall, in which students will analyze Swift’s albums as “primary texts” and examine “how a single artist can shape global culture and shift industry standards.”

“We will decode the history, narrative themes, and lyrical depth of each distinct ‘Era’ to understand how she builds a cohesive universe through her work,” the course description reads.

The class also explores her transition across music genres and her dispute over ownership of her master recordings.

According to the course description, “From the country-pop of her youth to the synth-heavy landscapes of 1989 and the atmospheric indie-folk of folklore, her discography serves as a chronological record of personal and creative growth.”

Rice is also listing a second Swift-focused course in its 2026-27 catalog titled “COLL 167 Miss Americana: The Evolution and Lyrics of Taylor Swift.” This seminar course will focus on Swift’s songwriting alongside discussions about “femininity and gender,” “politics and social impact,” and “American nationalism and whiteness.”

Students in the class will examine all 10 of Swift’s albums and complete written responses, participate in classroom discussions, and write a final essay analyzing one of her songs.

“Hailed as the ‘Songwriter of the Decade,’ Taylor Swift has been at the forefront of pop culture for years, making her an enduring presence in a fast-paced industry. The name itself brings both appeal and aversions, yet what really shines about the star is her songwriting,” the catalog description for the course reads.

It’s being taught by Professor Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho, Ph-DDD.

A couple of generations of people have been raised to believe in this stuff. They’re not going to go away over night. Even so, this is ridiculous and all funding for the entire “school” should be cut immediately.

I always advised my freshmen that they could get the world’s best education or the world’s worst education depending on the courses they chose, their extracurriculars, and the research projects they got involved with in their upperclass years.

So this course is necessary to make that true. Besides, it will serve as a required prerequisite for Underwater Basketweaving 101 and a co-requisite for paparazzi 200.

That’s not far-left themes. That’s our average everyday Democrat left in action.

Rice couldn’t afford the royalties for Madonna’s “My Wisdom” course.

Coming up – Bruce Springsteen course at Berkeley, examining “If I Only Had A Brain”, from Wizard of OZ.
