Report: Sen. Ruben Gallego Faces DOJ Probe Over Campaign Spending

The Senate Ethics Committee dismissed an inquiry into those allegations against Gallego on Monday.

The DOJ has launched an investigation into Sen. Ruben Gallego’s (D-AZ) campaign spending, according to Axios and The Washington Examiner.

A source told Axios the DOJ started the investigation after a “whistleblower complaint” in Southern California.

Gallego’s problems began after numerous women came forward accusing his bestie, former Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA), of sexual misconduct.

In April, Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) claimed, “There is a woman that allegedly is coming forward with attorneys, wants to go on-record about an incident that occurred between the two of them at the same time, and the event was sexual in nature, allegedly.

Last week, I wrote about how Politico scrutinized Gallego’s financial records and discovered he used leadership PAC campaign cash to fund luxury outings with his family since he launched his Senate campaign in 2023.

The Senate Ethics Committee dismissed an inquiry into those allegations against Gallego on Monday.

However, the committee said “that it retains the authority to revisit the allegations if further evidence emerges, evidence that could be uncovered by the federal investigation.

But now Gallego has to face the DOJ.

“The Justice Department’s probe comes after the Senate Ethics Committee closed its inquiry into allegations of sexual misconduct and campaign finance violations after finding no evidence that Gallego violated Senate rules or applicable law, according to a letter released by his office Monday,” reported Axios.

The Politico report noted that Gallego and Swalwell formed the “Swallego Victory Fund” in October 2022. The two lawmakers, families, donors, and staff attended Super Bowl LVII in Arizona in 2023, describing the gathering as a fundraiser for the fund.

“The committee raised a total of $56,505, all but $900 of which the FEC logged between Jan. 31 and Feb. 13, 2023, the day after the Super Bowl, according to FEC records,” Politico reported. “It spent $34,700 on event tickets and about $2,715 at The Henry, a brunch restaurant in Phoenix, the records show.”

The fund didn’t raise any money after March 2023 and shut down in 2025.

Trivial corruption unless it’s the tip of the iceberg. He really needs to learn either to hide it better or steal a great deal more. He’s a US Senator after all. To get tripped up for such small amounts should be embarrassing. Then again he is Swallell’s friend so how embarrassed could he ever get.

Pitbull Kari Lake is still dinging him on his “cartel connections.” Seems his daddy was quite the piedra rodante.
