Pro-Israel Abelardo de la Espriella Declares Victory in Colombia Presidential Election

Abelardo de la Espriella has declared victory in the Colombian presidential election, which would shift the country to the right.

The political outsider has a slim lead over Senator Ivan Cepeda, who is considered outgoing President Gustavo Petro’s protégé.

As of now, de la Espiella leads Cepeda 49.66% to 48.70%.

De la Espriella received endorsements from President Donald Trump and supports Israel:

De la Espriella, 47, promised a heavy-handed approach to crime-fighting, including drug trafficking. He also said he plans to end Petro’s attempts to establish parallel peace negotiations with multiple armed groups – an effort that has largely failed – and build mega-prisons, emulating Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele’s aggressive policies. Those tactics have lowered homicide rates in the Central American country but have fueled accusations of human rights abuses.

De la Espriella, nicknamed “The Tiger,” holds dual Colombian and US citizenship. He’s a Trump supporter and a member of the US Republican Party.

“We have had an armed conflict and a drug trafficking problem for too long, and this has greatly polarized the country,” retired economist Víctor Duque, 72, said while wearing a national soccer team jersey at a voting center in the capital, Bogota. “I believe it is one of the most important elections that has taken place in Colombia this century.”

De La Espriella has promised to “renew a strategic alliance with the State of Israel” and “defend the Judeo-Christian principles that form the foundation of Western civilization.”

De la Espriella wants to open a Colombian Embassy in Jerusalem.

Cepeda vowed to continue Petro’s far-left policies, including those toward Israel. Petro cut all ties with Israel after the Jewish State defended itself against Hamas and rescued thousands of victims.

Petro called the attacks a genocide, which Israel denied.

Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs Gideon Sa’ar celebrated de la Espriella’s, expressing joy at their future, and invited him to Israel.

Well, Petro forced me to pull out a meme I use when people blame Israel.

Yes, Petro claimed that Israel rigged the election:

“I warned that the Bautista brothers’ software was vulnerable, according to the 2018 State Council ruling, and that it should be replaced with publicly available software,” Petro wrote on X, adding that he had requested an audit of the software ahead of the elections, but that it had not been allowed.

“Well, today we have evidence of a change in the IP addresses of several servers belonging to the National Registry. This means that the software was compromised, and others entered data for polling stations and voting centers,” he said. “The only entity in the world capable of doing that is the State of Israel.”

The outgoing president promised to forward this so-called evidence to the courts to “conduct the expert audit of the electoral software that has not been carried out, to do it in the very process of scrutiny.”

Yes, it’s always the Joooooooooos. Give me a break, dude.

Or, maybe, just maybe, it has everything to do with crime, the economy, and restoring relations with valuable allies?

De la Espriella emphasized Petro’s failures regarding Colombian safety. The 2016 FARC pact has failed, with homicides and extortions climbing to record numbers:

But violence has since roared back, particularly as most rebel groups abandoned their ideologically driven fight for the financial benefits of drug trafficking. Colombia’s illegal groups have more than 27,000 members.

Last year, authorities recorded 14,780 homicides, the most since at least 2015 and driven by clashes among illegal armed groups. Among those killed was conservative presidential hopeful Miguel Uribe. Extortions have also soared, reaching 13,417 cases in 2025, more than double the number tallied in 2015.

“The only peace process I believe in is one imposed by the force of arms and the laws of the republic,” de la Espriella told the AP. “Under my government, any bandit who resists will be eliminated as appropriate, and if he submits, we will imprison him in a mega prison so he can pay his debt to justice as they should.”
