Kansas U. Course Teaches How to ‘Deconstruct Gender’ Through ‘Queer Theory’
“The course description also characterizes gender norms as forms of ‘violence and oppression…'”
How does one deconstruct gender? Gender doesn’t even exist. It’s a sex: male or female. It’s so simple. From Campus Reform:
Listed in KU’s 2026-27 course catalog, WGSS 329: Introduction to Queer Theory: Tools for Deconstructing Gender, explores how queer theory challenges traditional understandings of gender and sexuality while examining connections between gender, race, feminism, and disability.
The course description says students will learn “new ways to think about gender” and examine how queer theory can be used as a framework for interpreting social structures and identity.
The course description also characterizes gender norms as forms of “violence and oppression,” encouraging students to analyze how traditional understandings of gender shape society.
WGSS 329 is housed within KU’s Department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, which was established in 1972 and offers undergraduate majors, minors, and certificate programs focused on gender and sexuality.
The new course joins a catalog of similar offerings, including Black Feminist and Womanist Ethics, Women’s History in Europe: 1600 to the Present, Queer Ecologies, and International Women’s Rights.

Not paying $40k a year to send MY kid there!
It’s a good thing people were too rational back in the ’70s to offer three years of college credits for “Paul Is Dead Studies.”
