It goes without saying that, in blue cities like San Francisco and New York, it’s pretty much a requirement for any Democrat running for office to be unwaveringly pro-LGBTQ legislation. Gay Democrat Scott Wiener, a California state senator, certainly fits that bill.
Perhaps more than any other elected official in this country, Wiener is exactly the type of pro-LGBTQ lawmaker conservatives warn about. For instance, he championed legislation in 2017 that decriminalized knowingly exposing someone to HIV without telling them about it – which included blood banks.
He also added an amendment to a 2023 family law/gender identity bill that, had it gone into effect, conceivably could have caused parents to be subjected to child abuse charges if they refused to affirm the “gender identity” of their child. Amazing, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) vetoed the bill.
During the 2022 monkeypox outbreak, Wiener actually encouraged gay orgies at bathhouses in part to reduce what he believed was the stigma surrounding the fact that monkeypox was primarily spreading through the gay male community:
He also once “joked” about mandating the teaching of “Drag Queen 101” to kids in K-12 public schools in the Golden State:
But, as we’ve recently learned, Wiener has one big flaw as far as LGBTQ activists are concerned: He’s Jewish, and has been reluctant to condemn Israel during the course of the Israel-Hamas war. For that, Wiener has officially fallen out of favor with the pro-Palestinian types in the movement to the extent he is now being marched out of trans pride gatherings in San Francisco (language warning):
But late Friday afternoon, as Mr. Wiener was on his way to a Pride Shabbat service led by a trans rabbi, he was run out of San Francisco’s annual Trans March by protesters accusing him of endorsing genocide in Gaza.
A man named Dimitry Yakoushkin filmed Mr. Wiener, castigating him for being “terrible on Gaza,” the video Mr. Yakoushkin later posted to social media shows. A half-dozen or so other people follow along, yelling a steady stream of invective at Mr. Wiener, profanely accusing him of being “genocidal” and having “Zionist handlers.” One waves a middle finger in his face.
“You do not belong here anymore, Scott,” Mr. Yakoushkin shouted. “I want to support someone who’s so positive on trans rights, but you’re a piece of sh** on Gaza.”
Watch:
In response to the video, former L.A. mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt observed that “Every communist revolutionary thinks they’ll have a seat at the table of power…in reality, they’re always the first against the wall.”
Wiener’s also been confronted by “Free Palestine” wacktivists at restaurants (language warning):
Radical “Free Palestine” activist harasses Jewish U.S. Congressional candidate Scott Wiener in San Francisco’s Mission District.Wiener, who is Jewish, recently shifted his stance on Israel and began parroting typical activist rhetoric about Gaza in an apparent bid for progressive votes. It didn’t matter. He was still branded a “Zionist,” told to “get the f*** up out my hood,” accused of pushing a “genocidal agenda,” and repeatedly ordered to say “Free Palestine” on camera. This is the logical endpoint of the uncompromising anti-Israel extremism pushed by DSA chapters and socialist candidates nationwide, no amount of pandering or self-censorship is ever enough.
The incidents have brought forth condemnations from some of the very same people who have encouraged radical anti-Israel activism as long as it is against Republicans.
SF Mayor Daniel Lurie:
As mayor, I can never accept hate directed at a member of our community. The language directed at Sen. Wiener yesterday was targeted, hateful, and antisemitic. In San Francisco, we welcome disagreement and respectful dialogue around issues many of us feel passionately about—but we cannot allow harassment and threats of violence. If you’re out celebrating Pride this weekend, I want you to be able to do it safely. Let’s also look out for each other so we can all have a great weekend. We are at our best as a city when we celebrate each other, and I’m looking forward to doing that tomorrow.
Others, however, were quick to mock Wiener by informing him that the chickens have come home to roost:
California political commentator Amy Reichert:
Scott Wiener only cares when his hateful rhetoric and tactics are used against him. Remember his remarks about Charlie Kirk? Wiener said Charlie spread “bigoted, VIOLENT poison” and was “a vile bigot who did immeasurable HARM by normalizing dehumanization.” Now, Wieners side are turning on him and accusing him of genocide. When you accuse people of extreme things Weiner, you yourself normalize it and now the chickens are coming home to roost

Wiener will be taking on San Francisco Supervisor Connie Chan (D) in the fall election to see who will become Nancy Pelosi’s successor in the 11th congressional district. Pelosi has endorsed Chan. Sen. Adam Schiff (D) also supports Chan’s candidacy.
Wiener has the support of union groups and some high-profile Democrats in the state, such as Attorney General Rob Bonta and State Treasurer Fiona Ma, who is also running for Lt. Gov. It remains to be seen to what extent, if any, the Israel-Hamas war issue will impact Wiener’s campaign on Election Day. Stay tuned.
