Italian Official Cancels U.S. Visit After Trump Claimed Meloni Begged for Picture

Grow up.

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani canceled his U.S. visit after President Donald Trump claimed Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni begged him for a picture with her.

“She’s probably happy I talked to her. I didn’t have to talk to her,” Trump said. “She begged me to take a picture with her. She wanted a picture with me so badly. I wouldn’t have taken it, but I felt sorry for her.”

Meloni denied she made the request: “Donald Trump’s statements are completely made up. I am frankly astonished. I don’t know why the president of the United States behaves like this towards his allies: it is not the first time, moreover.”

Tajani wrote on X:

The serious and offensive words of President Trump towards Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni offend all of Italy. For this reason, I have decided to cancel my visit to the United States scheduled for the next 21 and 22 June.

Look, I know we Italians are dramatic, but come on. All of this because Trump supposedly lied about a picture request? Was it over the claim that Meloni was happy he spoke to her?

Either way, I cannot even.

Meloni and Trump’s relationship soured in April when the president criticized Pope Leo after he condemned the American attacks on Iran.

Meloni rushed to the pope’s defense, describing Trump’s comments as “unacceptable.”

The defense did not please Trump, who responded, “I’m shocked at her. I thought she had courage, but I was wrong.”

Meloni’s statement did not include a denial that she asked for a photograph. She only denied that she “begged” for a photo.

He just doesn’t know when to STFU. Constantly bragging, frequently FOS.

Well at 80 he’s not going to change, He’s always been this way.

Trump’s self control is about as good as a ten year old’s. He just doesn’t know when to let that stupid thought remain unsaid. Is there anyone he hasn’t insulted?

Dolce Far Niente | June 19, 2026 at 1:36 pm

Well, now that “all of Italy” is insulted, can we get the rest of fricking Europe insulted as well?
So insulted they refuse to have us in NATO and the UN? Refuse our cash? Refuse our weapons? Refuse our intelligence gathering?

Because I am not seeing the downside.

See “biting the hand that fed them”…. maybe German (or “Austrian” per Obama) would have been a better final fit for Europe in the long run as the EU is embracing more of the Reich’s ideas. “”Living Space”…. instead of invading Poland and Russia… how about letting others get their living space by invading the EU? Can’t have children get a stern rebuke…. could hurt their feelings.

How the mighty fall.
Stage 1, hubris born of succes
Stage 2, undisciplined overreach.
Stage 3, denial of risk
Stage 4, attempt at salvation before collapse.

Trump is somwhere between stage 2 and 3. He overextended himself in Iran.

Republicans that stick with him in the mid terms are going to sink with the ship, except in deep red areas (please tell me how he denies this is a serious risk, lol).

People only *tolerate* his boorishness. He antagonizes everyone because he cant keep his trap shut.

With inflation high and jobs being replaced by AI, people won’t have any reason to tolerate it in November.

I can think of a lot of reasons — Schumer, Temu Obama, Spanberger, Newsom, Bass, Pritzker…

Pace yourself sweetie. You still have 6 years of Trump to survive through 🤣🤣

and the cancelled trip will do what to the US?,..in other words, we don’t care!

“She begged me to take a picture with her. She wanted a picture with me so badly. I wouldn’t have taken it, but I felt sorry for her.”

Well, Trump is doing what Trump does — now that he apparently no longer considers Meloni an ally, while we all know that even mild criticism seems enough for some Italians to feel insulted…

henrybowman in reply to Groundhog Day. | June 19, 2026 at 3:28 pm

I had no idea Trump was Italian.

Seriously, she is the closest thing to MAGA since Augustus, and Trump writes her off just for her religious loyalty?

      kelly_3406 in reply to henrybowman. | June 19, 2026 at 4:21 pm

She could have just kept her mouth shut. The Pope is capable of defending himself.

The Catholic Church seems to have extended an olive branch to Trump with its statement against open borders.

But Meloni cannot seem to let it go. Me thinks the lady doth protest too much.

tbonesays in reply to henrybowman. | June 19, 2026 at 4:27 pm

She’s also the most attractive head of state. I doubt President DJT needed much persuading to stand for that picture.

I guess Obama “sweet nothings” or Biden’s just ” nothings” will sooth their troubled nations. Yes, one can get more with honey then vinegar but Al Capone said it better….. “you get more with a gun and a smile, then just a smile”.

I have little doubt most if not all European leaders want a picture with Trump but it’s impolite to say so in the open.

Unbelievable.

Here is the plan: First, we make Russia rich by attacking Iran. Then we surrender to Iran and let them extort shippers for “insurance” and open the Straight of Hormuz at a nice leisurely IRGC pace, while agreing to give them 300 billion dollars (and letting them keep the nuclear dust).

And just for kicks, lets insult all the pro-life Catholics by antagonizing the Pope and Meloni, one of Trump’s only conservative allies in Europe.

You can’t make this up.

Tiki in reply to dwb. | June 19, 2026 at 6:28 pm

    Russia is not getting “rich.”

We? You surrendered to the theocratic fascist occupiers decades ago.

America now offers alternative shipping routes and insurance.

    $300 billion IOU.

Pro-abortion US/EU Catholics hate Trump; EU conservatives are soft Democratic Socialists; Not a single American voted to install the Pope as King of America.

You made this up in fever dream.

henrybowman in reply to dwb. | June 19, 2026 at 9:37 pm

    Why not? You did.

Donny’s penchant for bluster and braggadocio are his least endearing traits among many that I find offensive.

I think Trump’s done a pretty decent job of living up to his promises as President considering the constraints he’s under, but I personally don’t like the man. He comes across as bigly insecure who attempts to compensate by being a braggart and bully.

With that said…he pissed off Italy.

Oh no – anyway.

Someone tell Meloni there are bigger events taking place on the world stage right now.

I would really prefer Trump stop behaving as if his comments/posts are his own as a private Citizen. Part of accepting the position of President is accepting that every statement/post, brief throwaway answer to a hastily shouted question from reporters as he boards a helicopter to head to Andrews AFB will be examined and does carry consequences not just for his Admin but for the Nation. Going off script may be authentic but it also carries risks and those risks extend beyond Trump the individual.
