Illegal Immigrant Accused Of Faking Homosexuality To Get Asylum
Illegal immigrant reportedly fakes being gay in order to get asylum and then gets caught after marrying a woman.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents are seeking to deport an illegal immigrant who allegedly lied about being gay in order to get asylum.
“[Selah Dine Habib] entered the country illegally in March 2023 near Lukeville, Arizona, and was RELEASED into the country by the Biden administration where he was reportedly hired as a corrections officer in Indiana,” Department of Homeland Security stated. “He will remain in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.”
The proceedings appear to stem from claims Habib made in 2023 as he sought to flee Mauritania. An LGBT group called Equaldex considers the African country unfriendly to homosexuality.
“His pending asylum application is believed to be fraudulent, as he applied based on homosexuality in 2023 but married a woman in 2025,” a DHS official stated, according to Fox News.
Soon after being released into the country by the Biden administration, Habib landed a job at the Jay County Sheriff’s Department Jail under Larry Newton. This being the land of opportunity, the illegal immigrant not only got the law enforcement job but also married Newton’s stepdaughter.
(Fox News reports that Habib landed the job after marrying Newton’s daughter, but WIBC, the original source, says he had the job prior to the marriage).
The sheriff’s office says the county auditor’s office cleared him for employment. The auditor’s office, meanwhile, says E-Verify, the federal employment verification system, said he had authorization to work in the country.
“Departments are responsible for completing any reference checks, background checks, drug tests, etc before submitting new employees to the office,” the auditor’s office told WIBC.

Immigration officials said work authorization is not the same as legal status.
“U.S. Border Patrol agents previously apprehended Habib in 2023 for illegally entering the United States,” a statement read. “He remains in ICE custody pending removal proceedings and will receive full due process under federal law.”
Habib has filed a federal habeas corpus suit which is pending as of May 29.

Easy, set an example. Upon conviction sentence him to serve his term at a facility in Nevada and his assigned daily work will be at a glory hole at the bunny ranch. Prostitution is legal in that part of Nevada and assignment of legal work to convicts is totes constitutional. Once his sentence is served out deport the goofball.

You can’t mandate that prospective employers look new hires up in the federal database, then complain they made a bad hire AFTER the federal database said it was OK!
I’m trying to read between the lines and I think what’s going on here is:
1. Dude arrived and made asylum claim. The catch and release program granted temporary permission to be in the USA pending adjudication of his asylum claim. (With millions let in there’s a backlog of many years, thanks Joe)
2. Biden admin handed out work authorization to those with pending asylum claims.
3. When it turned out he had married a Woman and cast doubt on the basis for his asylum claim (that as a homosexual he faced credible fear in his home Nation) immigration revoked his temporary permission to remain on the USA.
So in essence, at the time the E-verify check was made dude had both valid lawful permission to be in the USA (pending asylum claim) AND a valid work authorization. Subsequently his asylum claim and thus his permission to be lawfully present was revoked. Its gotta be something close to that.

Yeah, it sucks. It’s illegal to work here unless you have legal status so I would think the work authorization would be that legal status. Biden Inc destroyed everything it touched.
It’s permission to work while here illegally. It’s the government saying, “We’re not planning to deport this guy any time soon, because we’re considering giving him legal status; in the meantime he has to eat, so we’re allowing people to legally employ him until such time as we decide whether to deport him or to give him legal status.”

Of course, it would be heartless, cruel and unjust to view this case as “par for the course” of our dynamic undocumented community at large. Besides, now that we know that there are at least 6 genders, the lines can be most fluid in what-is-what between us. To judge is not who we are, as we’re better than this, and don’t want the arc of history to been badly!
