Colorado College Awards Academic Credit for Helping to ‘Shut Down’ Immigrant Detention Centers

“Community Organizing to Support Labor, Tenant/Housing, and Immigrant Rights”

So much of what passes for higher education today is nothing more than left-wing political activism.

Campus Reform reports:

Colorado College gives students credit for helping to ‘shut down’ immigrant detention centers

A Colorado College internship program will award academic credit to students who participate in political activism alongside left-leaning advocacy organizations.

From June 11 to July 28, the Colorado College Social Action Institute is offering a student internship program designed to “engage in activist and/or advocacy work” aimed at advancing “participatory democracy” by addressing the “criminalization of immigrant communities, low-wage workers, and other vulnerable populations.”

According to the program description, students will work directly with community-based organizations in Colorado Springs, Denver, Albuquerque, and Los Angeles. Participants will receive college credit through the general studies course GS215.

The internship program offers three tracks. The first, “Community Organizing to Support Labor, Tenant/Housing, and Immigrant Rights,” involves advocacy, writing, and election-related work.

The second track, “Environmental Justice Organizing,” focuses on advocacy and writing projects related to environmental issues.

The third track, “Immigrant Detention Work and Movement Lawyering,” allows students to assist attorneys representing immigrants while also participating in efforts to “shut down immigrant detention centers,” according to the program description.

Students can work with political organizations such as Coalitions for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles (CHIRLA), Conservation Colorado, and Colorado Jobs with Justice.

CHIRLA opposes deportations and calls for “immediate immigration reform that includes a path to citizenship for all undocumented people.”

Colorado Jobs with Justice advocates on issues including “local minimum wage campaigns, empowering women and non-binary folx in building trades.”

Students placed with Conservation Colorado will participate in advocacy efforts focused on environmental issues with an “emphasis on environmental justice and the Latino community.”

@DepartmentofEducation, before you go, please immediately deny all federal funding to this scurry of squirrels.
