CENTCOM: U.S. Forces Eliminate Senior ISIS Leader in Syria

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that forces killed a senior ISIS leader in Syria on June 19.
Unfortunately, ISIS sleeper cells continue and have claimed responsibility for attacks against Syria’s new leaders.
CENTCOM identified the leader as Ali Husayn al-‘Ulaywi in an operation “to disrupt and eliminate terrorists seeking to attack Americans abroad or the U.S. homeland.”

President Donald Trump vowed revenge after ISIS killed American soldiers and an interpreter in December.
The administration launched strikes against ISIS in Syria and Nigeria.
The military struck over 30 ISIS targets between February 3 and 12 after it targeted “an ISIS communication site, critical logistics node, and weapons storage facilities, Jan. 27 – Feb. 2.”
A few weeks later, ISIS spokesman Abu Huzaifa al-Ansari told the terrorist group’s supporters to attack Jewish and Western targets.
On Monday, the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) targeted three individuals and six entities in Europe, the Middle East, and West Africa, accusing them of “facilitating financial transactions on behalf of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).”
The Treasury Department said these people and entities allow “ISIS to move funds among its regional affiliates.”
“ISIS continues to seek new methods and tools to finance terrorist attacks,” said Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent. “The United States will leverage every tool at its disposal to crush ISIS’s remaining capabilities and protect American lives.”
