Ceasefire Falters as Iran Resumes Attacks in Hormuz, Launches Drone Strikes on Bahrain
President Trump: “When I respond, you’re going to find out.”
Iran severely violated the ceasefire on Saturday, resuming attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and launching drone strikes against Bahrain. “Iran launched a drone assault targeting Bahrain while a ship in the Strait of Hormuz separately came under attack Saturday,” the Associated Press reported. “The attacks in the Persian Gulf show the danger of the Iran war again spinning out of control, even after Iran and the U.S. reached an interim deal to try and agree on a final accord to end the conflict.”
This is the second Iranian attack on a cargo ship passing through the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with the U.S.-Iran framework agreement. “A tanker reported being struck by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, Britain’s maritime security agency said,” Reuters reported. “Britain’s UKMTO maritime security agency said the tanker that was hit on Saturday had sustained damage to its bridge, with all crew reported safe.”
On Thursday, an Islamic Guard (IRGC) drone struck a Singapore-flagged cargo ship. The attack forced the United Nations (UN) to suspend an evacuation plan for stranded ships and sailors. U.S Central Command responded with strikes on “Iranian missile and drone storage locations and coastal radar sites,” posing a threat to the shipping in one of the world’s busiest waterways.
The IRGC boasted of striking U.S. military bases in the region, likely referring to its drone attacks on Bahrain. “Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has issued a statement saying it has targeted US military positions in the region, in response to the US strike against Iran,” the Sky News reported.

On Friday, President Donald Trump slammed Tehran for a “foolish violation” of the 12-day-old ceasefire agreement. “The Islamic Republic of Iran shot at least four One Way Attack Drones at Ships transversing the Strait of Hormuz. One of the Drones solidly hit the upper deck of a large and very expensive Cargo Carrying Ship,” he posted on Truth Social.

Following Thursday’s ceasefire violation, President Trump warned the Iranian regime to expect a U.S. response.

The attack on international shipping comes as Iran tightens its control over the waterway and demands $40 billion from the Gulf Arab states to restore the waterway that carried 20 percent of the world’s oil and natural gas before the war. These actions are in direct violation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by the U.S. and Iran. Under the agreement, the Mullah regime is obliged to restore maritime trade in the Strait within the next 2-3 weeks and ensure toll-free access to shipping.
According to the D.C.-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW) on Thursday, “Iran is attacking and threatening vessels in the Strait of Hormuz to advance its objective of establishing control over the waterway. The recent attack and ongoing threats also likely seek to undermine international efforts to guarantee safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz.”

1) What we’re dealing with here are Muslims living out the teachings of their prophet. As such, they will never capitulate but rather they will repeatedly lie and obfuscate in furtherance of their faith (such as it is).
2) President Trump is dealing with two enemies here – the mullahs and the democrats, who would rather the Middle East be thrust into nuclear Armageddon than to support a rational foreign policy objective by Trump.
3) Trump is clearly playing the long game here. He’s no dummy. He realizes that American boots on the ground is a nonstarter with the American people and he must keep his eyes on the midterms.
4) One can only hope that we are engaged in a clandestine effort to arm Iranian patriots that want to (and deserve) be rid of these horrible Islamist leaders.

We need to find the level of destruction that achieves LeMay’s goal: total victory via surrender. The fact that our therapeutic society finds serious war “icky,” makes this hard to achieve, but achieving it would produce fewer and shorter wars.

Trump has repeatedly stated that negotiations must be carried out in good faith and any terms must be adhered to or else. He seems to be fully aware that he’s dealing with untrustworthy people who understand violence better than words.

If Trump made a mistake it was his declaration that the war wasn’t about “regime change.” That may have been true (if so, that would have been a mistake), or it may have been cover to create a situation in which the Iranians can be shown to be completely intransigent and that regime change is the only viable option. If I was able to think of it, certainly Trump has smarter people working for him that could have thought of it too. It’s not rocket science.

Not before the mid terms and depends on definition of ‘take’. Presumably that is shorthand for ‘take control of’. Does ‘take control of’ mean occupy with US forces or just deny Iranian use of the Island?
Occupation would cost a good deal of casualties from zealots defending it, IED left behind, all sorts of nasty things to clear and hold it and then be subject to missile and drone attacks from Iranian mainland. Much easier and far less costly in American lives to use our own standoff capability to deny use of the Island to Iranian regime. I don’t see any large appetite for boots on the ground even in a more limited manner off the mainland.
IMO, the real issue is destruction of the facilities/equipment. Any successor govt would really be behind the 8 ball without oil/gas revenue to rebuild making them vulnerable to being overthrown by malcontents and/or expecting US taxpayers to foot tje bill. So far the Trump Admin has been reluctant to hit infrastructure even infrastructure unrelated to oil/gas. That’s probably based on pressure from Iranian expats, regional Nations worried about a bigger mess, the usual suspects from the establishment pearl clutching and frankly Trump’s own reluctance, despite his bluster about civilization ending attacks’ to create/accept the mass deaths hitting infrastructure would create as secondary and tertiary effects. Giving the orders to inflict death and destruction carries a weight on the soul (at least on mine) and I suspect Trump’s own humanity makes him reluctant to pull the trigger on unleashing that large a scale of death/destruction on the Iranian population. IMO ultimately it’s gonna be necessary and if I had my preference we’d have done it in April but after the midterms we’ll find out for sure.
That’s for others to decide. As seen here and elsewhere, there are plenty of “experts.” It would definitely shake things up for the Iranians if they persist. And maybe speed up the collapse many desire. Speculation seems like wasted energy. Only a very few actually know what tomorrow brings.
