U. Michigan Commencement Hijacked By Anti-Israel Prof.

“Academia has been hijacked by radicals, hijacked by anti-Israel radicals, hijacked by anti-American radicals”

A faculty commencement speaker at the University of Michigan used his spot to slam Israel. The president of the university said that those remarks deviate from the remarks submitted in advance:

I spoke about this on the Laura Ingraham show tonight:

Transcript Excerpt (auto-generated, may contain transcription errors, lightly edited for transcript clarity)

Ingraham:

It is that time of year again, the Carousel of commencement speakers on Saturday at the University of Michigan. Well, it might’ve been the worst of the worst history Professor Derek Peterson celebrated the graduates, or was it the pro Hamas crowd

Video played:

Sing for the pro Palestinians student activists who have over these past two years opened our hearts to the injustice and inhumanity of Israel’s war in Gaza

Ingraham:

Here to react. William Jacobson, Cornell Law Professor, professor, great to see you tonight. The University of Michigan president ended up apologizing for the faculty member’s comment, saying that he deviated from the remarks he shared before the ceremony. That’s, does that ever get conservatives off when they say something that offends people?

WAJ:

No. In fact, if you’re conservative on a campus, if you’re lucky enough to be one of the few conservatives who gets hired on a campus, then no, nothing is forgiven. And that’s really the problem here.

What this professor did was a hijacking. He deviated from his remarks. He was brought there for particular purpose. He apparently got his remarks either approved or ran them by people, and then he hijacked the ceremony.

Unfortunately, this is happening throughout academia. Academia has been hijacked by radicals, hijacked by anti-Israel radicals, hijacked by anti-American radicals. And they may not be the majority, but they’re in positions of power.

This is the outgoing faculty chair of the faculty Senate. And so this is an important person. And he used his three minutes of fame, and I did watch his whole speech, he used his three minutes of fame to slam Israel.

“Professor” Derek Peterson has proven to be untrustworthy (“those remarks deviate from the remarks submitted in advance”). He needs to be immediately unemployed.

From a brief history of electronic mail, the tale of possibly the world’s first spam:

In those days I led the system programming group for some of MIT’s computing services including CTSS, and I was mighty displeased one day, probably about 1971, to discover that one of my team had abused his privilege to send a long anti-war message to every user of CTSS that began

THERE IS NO WAY TO PEACE. PEACE IS THE WAY.

I pointed out to him that this was inappropriate and possibly unwelcome, and he said, “but this is important!

Do you see any different between that and this?

#resistance aholes like Peterson are nothing but smug, self-important SPAMMERS. They steal your time and your celebrations as if everything was theirs to hijack and dispose of.

Yes so unprofessional and now his assholeness will be a part of the memory of the graduates’ big day. Tainted memory.

Some clever Attorneys might find a way to make a tort claim out of this sort of behavior where a bait and switch occurs with a captive audience forced to either remain and listen to the rouge speaker or abandoning their graduation event ruined by some jerk who placed their own narcissism over what should be a celebration of the achievements of the Students. At minimum perhaps holding the Univ accountable for failing to immediately halt him, remove him for disruption.

So, this vile, grandstanding and contemptible “professor” contends that’s an alleged injustice and act of “inhumanity,” for Jews to defend their homeland and their people from the sadistic and genocidal predations of goose-stepping and perennially belligerent descendants of Arab invaders from Arabia (so-called “Palestinians”).

A perfect representation of contemporary Dhimmi-crats’ evil and stupidity, contemptibly presented with the false patina of alleged “social justice.”

My BS is from there. How appropriate. They’ll never get a dime from me and I’d gladly burn the place down if I could.

At my sons college graduation, there was a guest speaker who slammed capitalism and extolled the virtues of socialism. My wife walked out; I didn’t want to make a scene so I just sat and shook my head in disbelief.

Democrat activists are forever hijacking each other’s events so they can get noticed.

Nothing, nothing is sacred to the Democrats, except their self-righteous bleeding hearts.

He intentional failed to give the speech that was approved.

Sounds like a simple case of deceit and insubordination

Show him the door!

    Show him the door!

Yeah, good luck with that one. Most likely this he’s a tenured professor and therefore under union contract is virtually untouchable by the university administration. That is if the administration even wants to attempt to discipline him. Pretty sure the university president is just going to leave it at, “He deviated from his approved speech.” and that will be all that’s said about the matter.

Speaking of bait-and-switch, Governor Spamburger of Virginia is the Queen of that practice.

Dearest Professor Jacobson,

Thank you for continuing to use your life hours fighting for clarity.

More and more often I see Princess Bride references… “does not mean what…”

“hijacked,” I would like a discussion on legal “rights” IN THE U.S.
(I do not care Martha elsewhere)

Recently Ohio case Ronan et al v. LaRose
https://law.justia.com/cases/federal/district-
courts/ohio/ohsdce/2:2026cv00343/310634/36/

Lying about Party Affiliation is not protected speech.

Yes, public vs private is involved, but can it be extended within U.S. Law.

Hijack, piracy , Lying… what tools do we have to fight with against such?

I’m surprised the “graduating” dei’s weren’t dancing in the aisles to his speech.

In my psychology courses, we learned that these types were the ones who had very difficult potty training. Primary behavioral trait is obstinacy and constipation of thought. Even in the face of situational reality.

A friend of mine sent me a video of that disgusting speech. He should have been thrown out of the building for ruining their graduation with that vile and hateful speech!
