Report: Cuba Acquires Hundreds of Military Drones From Russia, Iran

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez accused America of lying “to justify economic sanctions and potential military intervention.”

Axios reported that Cuba received over 300 military drones from Russia and Iran to possibly use to attack Guantanamo Bay and Key West, FL.

From Axios:

Why it matters: The intelligence — which could become a pretext for U.S. military action — shows the degree to which the Trump administration sees Cuba as a threat because of developments in drone warfare and the presence of Iranian military advisers in Havana, a senior U.S. official said.

  • “When we think about those types of technologies being that close, and a range of bad actors from terror groups to drug cartels to Iranians to the Russians, it’s concerning,” the official said.
  • “It’s a growing threat.”

According to the report, Cuba has been receiving the drones since 2023. They come with “varying capabilities.”

Cuba has bought even more drones in the past month. A CIA official said Cuba want “to learn about how Iran has resisted” America.

The intelligence reports supposedly claim that Russia and China have placed “high-tech espionage facilities for collecting ‘signals intelligence’ (called SIGINT) in Cuba.”

CIA John Ratcliffe went to Cuba last Thursday. He warned officials not to engage in any hostilities.

Ratcliffe also told them “to scrap their totalitarian government to end crippling U.S. sanctions.”

“Director Ratcliffe made clear that Cuba can no longer serve as a platform for adversaries to advance hostile agendas in our hemisphere,” a CIA official told Axios. “The Western Hemisphere cannot be our adversaries’ playground.”

Cuba has denied the allegations.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez accused America of lying “to justify economic sanctions and potential military intervention.”

Rodriguez posted on X:

Without any legitimate excuse whatsoever, the #US government builds, day after day, a fraudulent case to justify the ruthless economic war against the Cuban people and the eventual military aggression.

Specific media outlets play along, promoting slanders and leaking insinuations from the U.S. government itself.

#Cuba neither threatens nor desires war.

It defends peace and prepares itself to confront external aggression in the exercise of the right to legitimate self-defense recognized by the UN Charter.

But does Cuba really pose a threat? The government cannot close the Straits of Florida.

The CIA official admitted that the government isn’t worried about fighter jets because the Pentagon doesn’t even know if the regime has any.

However, Havana is only 90 miles from Key West.

The DOJ already indicted Cuba’s de facto leader Raúl Castro, accusing him of “ordering the 1996 downing of two planes flown by a Miami-based aid group called Brothers to the Rescue.”

Officials will unseal the indictment on Wednesday. A grand jury needs to approve it.

It’s likely Cuba fears America will invade and capture Castro in the same way we took Venezuela dictator Nicolás Maduro.

Dems assure americans that cuba would only use them if trump and the gop are in power

IneedAhaircut | May 18, 2026 at 10:22 am

Is the US getting ready to snatch Castro the same way they did Maduro in Venezuela?

If we, the US, were to lift sanctions on Cuba, and US citizens were allowed to visit, cuba would become a democracy overnight overwhelmed with US dollars.
We wouldn’t need to fire a shot to take it over, the tourist hoards would
do the job, just like they did in Hawaii.

Plus….Cuba knows if they ever sent drones our way, we’d squash them like a bug for being the nuisance that they’ve become.

The rest of the world can freely travel and do business with Cuba. Sure, bring in US dollars and watch Cuba fund greater Communism around the world. Same idea with China…. Make them more like US but instead we are becoming more like them…. prototype for Democrat takeover.

That sounds strangely like the plan where we allowed China to enter the world Trade Organization and then they became more like us. Oh yeah, didn’t happen that way

only if the cuban regime changed

    they have capitalism already…for themselves…..

they would have to become more “liberal” in their thinking and become conservatives in their fiscal plans >>agenda

How is that supposed to work, exactly?

    Also, Hawaii?!

I suppose we need to kill Cuba.

Whatever it takes.

The best course of action with Cuba is to ignore them. There will be no repeat of the Cuban missile crisis. Neither Russia nor China is in position to poke the eagle like that. Of course, if the Russians or Chinese wish to take on the burden of economically supporting Cuba, great! Better them than us. We already have a Puerto Rico and we don’t need another one. Perhaps Canada? They seem to enjoy Cuba and it would make a nice warm water colony for them.

The drones are meaningless. They are no offensive weapons; their value is only as a nuisance defense – the stinkbug approach.

Drones are not offensive? Huh????? Tell that to the Russians and Ukrainians and everyone hit by Iranian drones. They are most certainly are offensive weapons. Not all but many and perhaps most.

the drones are not offensive weapons??

      yes yes they are

If you’re thinking of the little quadcopter your neighbor uses to spy on your wife while she sunbathes in the back yard, maybe so. But the military drones used in Iran and other places can accurately deliver a hundred pounds of high explosive quite efficiently.
      .

Well if the Cuban problem is taken care of, Trump will have successfully cleaned up the mess on aisle 3. Iran, aisle 4, Pharmacy and sex trafficking (Mexico and Venz.) aisle 5. Still need the China section to be cleaned up. Time is running short.

alaskabob in reply to MarkSmith. | May 18, 2026 at 11:51 am

As Trump continues to clean up the mess, the Democrat Party seeks more support as they reach out to Cuba, Iran, Mexico and China to be “their” party in the US. The acquisition of drones by Cuba alters defense of the US. The threat of waves of Cuban drones makes for a new Cuban Missile Crisis. Islamo-marxist alliance building.

Were we to conquer China, most of us would be speaking Chinese withing fifty years. Look what happened to the Manchus.

Launch the drones off the SC coast and see how far they make it inland with 15,000 rifle barrels aimed upon them.
There are three guns pointing behind every blase of grass.

15,000 rifle barrels pointed at them is one thing, but if you start shooting rifles at drones, there are going to be civilians killed by those bullets, and probably no drone shot down. I don’t think you realize what their drones are.

We should squeeze Cuba economically as we have been doing. We should also squeeze anyone doing business with them except for stuff like food and medicines.

We should also offer a way out to their leadership. Say free travel to Spain or France. I’m sure they would love it there. As a bonus they can take the billions they swindled from the Cuban people.

These are deep ideologues who have used murder and imprisonment to maintain control. They will expend their entire population to maintain it. The only way to save Cuba or Iran is to eliminate their communists and Islamists respectively.

Heal the people and feed them. Build a big MASH type facility near Havana and a big chow hall. Definitely USMC security. Same thing at Guantanamo. I may be naive but I think that would be a good start. Take their territory and test their resolve. If they resist they die. If they sue for peace they get fed, healed and freed. I might be overestimating the level of poverty in Cuba but everything I’ve seen points to an ugly situation that needs humanitarian response.

Did or did not the “Brothers to the Rescue” violate Cuban sovereign airspace?

If so, did Cuba have the right to defend itself?

Sounds like FAFO.
