Democrats today are desperate for the country to forget their ‘Defund the Police’ phase, but their behavior shows that they are still not on board with publicly supporting our men and women in blue.
This past week was National Police Week, and 173 House Democrats voted against a resolution to honor law enforcement officers. Every Republican voted for it.
FOX News reports:
173 House Democrats vote against resolution honoring police amid rising attacksHouse Democrats split over a resolution backing law enforcement as assaults on officers surged last year.Just 29 House Democrats on Wednesday voted for a GOP-authored measure paying tribute to the “extraordinary sacrifice” law enforcement officers make and criticizing the defund the police movement for jeopardizing public safety.Meanwhile, 173 Democrats voted with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., against the resolution, while every GOP lawmaker present supported it.”We want to take that best practice of respecting law enforcement in Iowa to the nation’s capital, and I was thrilled that we got bipartisan support,” Rep. Zach Nunn, R-Iowa, who introduced the measure, said in an interview with Fox News Digital. But the Iowa Republican said he expected his resolution to receive unanimous backing.”I think it unfortunately puts a real spotlight on a chasm we have between those who support law and order and those who are supporting those who undermine it,” Nunn said. The vote comes as assaults against law enforcement officers climbed to a 10-year high last year, according to an FBI report released Monday. The number of officers killed saw a slight decrease between 2024 and 2025.
Rep. Zach Nunn, the Iowa Republican who introduced the measure, has more on his House page:
House Passes Nunn Resolution Backing Law Enforcement — 173 Democrats Vote No The House of Representatives passed a resolution led by Representative Zach Nunn (IA-03) reaffirming support for the men and women of law enforcement and condemning policies that undermine public safety and put officers at greater risk. The resolution passed the House 243-173, with 173 Democrats voting against the measure.“It shouldn’t be controversial to stand with the men and women who put their lives on the line to keep our communities safe,” said Rep. Nunn. “But from the ‘defund the police’ radicalism to sanctuary city policies that prevent cooperation with federal law enforcement, too many politicians have put ideology ahead of public safety — and Americans are paying the price. This Police Week, the House sent a clear message: we back the blue. I’m proud to have led that effort.”According to the FBI, more than 85,000 law enforcement officers were assaulted in the line of duty in 2024 — the highest rate in a decade. At the same time, police departments nationwide continue to face severe recruitment and retention challenges, straining understaffed agencies and making it harder to keep communities safe. The resolution also highlights the impact of sanctuary policies that limit cooperation between local and federal law enforcement. The Center for Immigration Studies currently identifies 13 states and more than 225 localities as sanctuary jurisdictions. In 2025 alone, those jurisdictions declined to honor almost 18,000 ICE detainer requests, releasing individuals back into communities instead of transferring them to federal custody — increasing risks for both officers and the public.
Democrats simply can’t be seen by their radical base honoring law enforcement, whether you’re talking about police, ICE agents, or Border Patrol agents. Plus, this resolution is the sort of thing Trump would like, so it’s off-limits.
