House Democrats Overwhelmingly Vote Against Resolution Honoring Law Enforcement Officers

“It shouldn’t be controversial to stand with the men and women who put their lives on the line to keep our communities safe”

Democrats today are desperate for the country to forget their ‘Defund the Police’ phase, but their behavior shows that they are still not on board with publicly supporting our men and women in blue.

This past week was National Police Week, and 173 House Democrats voted against a resolution to honor law enforcement officers. Every Republican voted for it.

FOX News reports:

173 House Democrats vote against resolution honoring police amid rising attacks

House Democrats split over a resolution backing law enforcement as assaults on officers surged last year.

Just 29 House Democrats on Wednesday voted for a GOP-authored measure paying tribute to the “extraordinary sacrifice” law enforcement officers make and criticizing the defund the police movement for jeopardizing public safety.

Meanwhile, 173 Democrats voted with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., against the resolution, while every GOP lawmaker present supported it.

“We want to take that best practice of respecting law enforcement in Iowa to the nation’s capital, and I was thrilled that we got bipartisan support,” Rep. Zach Nunn, R-Iowa, who introduced the measure, said in an interview with Fox News Digital.

But the Iowa Republican said he expected his resolution to receive unanimous backing.

“I think it unfortunately puts a real spotlight on a chasm we have between those who support law and order and those who are supporting those who undermine it,” Nunn said.

The vote comes as assaults against law enforcement officers climbed to a 10-year high last year, according to an FBI report released Monday. The number of officers killed saw a slight decrease between 2024 and 2025.

Rep. Zach Nunn, the Iowa Republican who introduced the measure, has more on his House page:

House Passes Nunn Resolution Backing Law Enforcement — 173 Democrats Vote No

The House of Representatives passed a resolution led by Representative Zach Nunn (IA-03) reaffirming support for the men and women of law enforcement and condemning policies that undermine public safety and put officers at greater risk. The resolution passed the House 243-173, with 173 Democrats voting against the measure.

“It shouldn’t be controversial to stand with the men and women who put their lives on the line to keep our communities safe,” said Rep. Nunn. “But from the ‘defund the police’ radicalism to sanctuary city policies that prevent cooperation with federal law enforcement, too many politicians have put ideology ahead of public safety — and Americans are paying the price. This Police Week, the House sent a clear message: we back the blue. I’m proud to have led that effort.”

According to the FBI, more than 85,000 law enforcement officers were assaulted in the line of duty in 2024 — the highest rate in a decade. At the same time, police departments nationwide continue to face severe recruitment and retention challenges, straining understaffed agencies and making it harder to keep communities safe.

The resolution also highlights the impact of sanctuary policies that limit cooperation between local and federal law enforcement. The Center for Immigration Studies currently identifies 13 states and more than 225 localities as sanctuary jurisdictions. In 2025 alone, those jurisdictions declined to honor almost 18,000 ICE detainer requests, releasing individuals back into communities instead of transferring them to federal custody — increasing risks for both officers and the public.

Democrats simply can’t be seen by their radical base honoring law enforcement, whether you’re talking about police, ICE agents, or Border Patrol agents. Plus, this resolution is the sort of thing Trump would like, so it’s off-limits.

Now float a resolution honoring illegal aliens and criminals and watch how many democrats vote for it.

There is a major disconnect between the republican and democratic bases which is reflected by their representatives. I know which side I prefer to be associated with!!

Once again it has to be asked: Who is it those 173 House Democrats call when things go wrong for them?

Of course we know who: the police. And they will be quick to complain when they take too long to get there. Also a large majority of the people who vote them into office do the same.

The only reason they did this is because they knew that they could get away with it.

In a sane world, the lead story in tonight’s 6:00 pm news would be the 173 Democrats who voted No.

But alas …

Keep this in mind when you vote.

More resolutions. Make them vote for the record.

Not a surprise. Communists are pro-crime and use it as a means to an end.

When the Bolsheviks took over they freed the criminals from the jails and made room for their enemies. Criminals only committed crime because of oppression by the society. Stalin was a major bank robber funding Lenin. When their time comes watch Obama’s Federales formed.

The demoncrats have shown their hate for law enforcement many times. The rule of law means nothing to the party of mental illness.

The vile, stupid and evil communist/Islamofascists will gleefully venerate, canonize and laud genocidal, Jew-hating and Christian-hating Muslim terrorists; masked, “Anti-fa” domestic terrorists; domestic and illegal alien criminals; drug-addled, sociopath criminals “of color,” such as St. Floyd and St. Trayvon of the Blessed Skittles.

But, honoring American law enforcement officers — that’s a bridge too far, for these wretched pukes.

This absurd vote was aimed at their America hating base! It is a certainty that this same group would vote to defund the police if given the chance. I cannot believe old time Dems have anything in common with these radicals! They cannot vote for these people. The Democrat party is like Tucker Carlson and made a sharp turn into insanity!

I’d vote against it as a vote against litmus test votes and posturing.

They sure praised and honored Michael Byrd for killing a Trump supporter.
It’s only certain law enforcement they H8

“It shouldn’t be controversial to stand with the men and women who put their lives on the line to keep our communities safe,” said Rep. Nunn.

While I understand Nunn’s sentiment, it seems that he and others are a bit out of touch.

All law enforcement members are not saviors that protect people.

Colorado and New Jersey just had massive verdicts against officers. Georgia is locked in fighting corrupt officers. Kentucky is in court over cops who cited and arrested people for being intoxicated, but had no drugs or alcohol in their systems. Cops in the west that use civil forfeiture to rob innocent citizens of thousands and thousands of dollars without basis. In Baltimore, the second highest cop in the City is being accused of using intimidation tactics against investigations into police corruption. Those tactics have already cost citizens millions of dollars.

Police unions use their weight to prevent accountability within their ranks. If politicians go against them, or during contract negotiations, the police stop working. They won’t protect anyone.

Unions make sure any civilian review boards – including those with police members – are feckless and impotent.

Unions sell their support and votes to elected politicians in return for favors.

I once had a pastor who said it only takes a drop of black paint to make a bucket of white paint grey.

There are too many instances of bad police within the silent ranks of “good” cops.

Nunn thinks it is “uncontroversial” to blindly support the police. That is a view from an ivory tower and one of disconnect from reality.

I’ll happily support good police. I happily sing their praises and acknowledge their work.

But there is too much “black paint” in the white bucket of paint that are the police ranks and the other officers and unions don’t care or want it gone.

      Now do politicians.

      Why?

Is there a resolution being voted on by the people or in the government praising politicians?

Shouldn’t politicians have the same responsibilities as law enforcement in that they should follow the laws, the Constitutions (state and Federal,) not be corrupt, etc?

Yet politicians are in many ways like some (key word some) police officers. All are not perfect. All are not corrupt. Many seem to be selling influence or wanting influence.

(As an aside, haven’t we been railing about and showing disgust at how law enforcement in the FBI was corrupt? That municipality police don’t arrest vandals during protests and allow “peaceful” protesters to destroy and burn property? Please tell me why I should support whole agencies that allow that to happen.)

I would never vote for a resolution saying that all politicians are great nor would I vote for a resolution saying all law enforcement is great.

Nunn’s resolution was for political reasons.

      Nothing else.

“I once had a pastor who said it only takes a drop of black paint to make a bucket of white paint grey.”

Cops is like a box of mushrooms.
Come bedtime, it don’t make a good damn how many in the box WEREN’T poisonous.
    H/T Forrest Gump.

One or these days, a key democrat will make a decision to remove police form an event, neighborhood, etc. This democrat or a family member will be shot or worse. The criminal will have been released by a democrat judge. The. Victim directly or indirectly will have voted against the police will ask “Why me?”

Surprised any dems voted for it.
