NYU law school to host closed-door panel on using state governments to advance racial justiceNew York University’s School of Law is slated to host a closed door panel where attendees will hear from speakers about how state governments can advance racial justice as federal actions against DEI policies decline.The April 21 event, “State Policymaking as a Vehicle for Racial Justice: How You Can Make an Impact,” is hosted by NYU’s School of Law, the school’s Center on Race, Inequality, and the Law, alongside the State Government Initiative.An NYU web page states that “This event is not open to the public,” the description states that it will “feature people who utilize state government as a vehicle to fight for racial justice in the face of federal headwinds.”Additionally, the focus of the event is stated to be on how, “policymaking to address America’s racial justice gaps has been left primarily to the states,” and is a response to federal government efforts to limit diversity, equity, and inclusion policies.Campus Reform recently reported how the Trump administration has celebrated how it is “shifting the culture and restoring our nation’s institutions to greatness,” including how the administration has reversed DEI initiatives at colleges and universities across the United States.NYU Law’s Center on Race, Inequality, and the Law is described as “[confronting] and [upending] the array of American laws, policies, and practices that lead to racial oppression and injustice.”The center’s stated “Vision” notes that due to how racism “permeates our present day legal system [and] has deep roots,” the center “envisions a world in which everyone is able to thrive, regardless of race, class, or any dimension of identity.”“A fundamental component of legal education in the United States is understanding the law through the lens of race and inequality,” the web page continues.
