UPenn wellness division hires official with ‘gender-affirming care’ background
The University of Pennsylvania’s health division recently hired an official with a history of providing “gender-affirming care.”
On March 17, Wellness at Penn announced its hiring of Erika Enk, who uses “they/them” pronouns and will serve as “the inaugural assistant medical director for gender and sexual health within Student Health and Counseling.”
“Mx. Enk has extensive clinical and leadership experience in gender-affirming care, sexual and reproductive health, mental health support, and trauma-informed practice,” the announcement read.
“They come to Penn from University Health Services at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where they directed the transgender and gender diverse medical program and provided comprehensive care to students,” it continues.
Turning Point USA at UPenn President Chloe Mastour criticized the hire as “catastrophic” in a statement to Campus Reform.
“It signals that the University of Pennsylvania has formally subordinated science to a filthy sexual perversity, institutionalizing harm against the vulnerable and the deluded alike,” she said. “It would be laughable were it not so tragic.”
Mastour also called on university officials to reject “gender-affirming care” as the “ethical and medical scandal that it is.”
“The very language employed in this announcement, euphemisms that would give Orwell a run for his money, is laughable in its deliberate obfuscation,” Mastour wrote. “‘Gender-affirming care’ and ‘gender and sexual health’ are not medical terms. In plain English, they are ideological cover for the surgical and chemical mutilation of healthy bodies.”
