Student Groups at Purdue Hold ‘No War on Iran’ Protest

“The stress, the fear, the nationalism, just not something that I necessarily want to go back to.”

This is quickly going to replace ICE as the favorite new protest topic.

Star City News reports:

Purdue student groups protest attacks on Iran, folks in Lafayette weigh in

Students for a Democratic Society at Purdue and the Young Democratic Socialists of America Purdue chapter held a “No War on Iran” protest, speaking out against U.S. attacks on the country.

“555 people have already died. Innocent civilians, combatants on both sides, including four American soldiers so far,” SDS at Purdue organizer Lea Rush said. “Trump ran promising that he wasn’t going to get us into more wars, and he’s totally broken that promise.”

Rush said the protesters fear the United States’ actions will lead to more “forever wars” for economic reasons.

“In the past with other engagements (it’s) like ‘We’ll be in and out.’ They argued that with Iraq and Afghanistan and we were in Afghanistan for 20 years,” Rush said. “Iran has already had an impact on gas prices here. We want more control of their oil in the Middle East.”

Star City News talked to more people in Lafayette to hear their thoughts on the events.

Some folks said they weren’t shocked at the attacks.

“There’s pressure coming in, like we’ve kind of seen war with Iran coming for a while,” said one person named Shepherd.

Others said they’re getting flashbacks learning the news.

“I was eight whenever 9/11 happened. Thinking about what all of that looks like, sometimes it kind of feels like we’re just going back into all of that again,” Emilie MacInnis shared. “The stress, the fear, the nationalism, just not something that I necessarily want to go back to.”

You’re a little bit late pookie and your stupid protest no one cares about isn’t going to make any difference at all except perhaps to your future and those possible employers who take note of who and what you are.
