Newsom’s Wife Brought Children to Red States to See Racism, Sexism, and Bullying Firsthand

A 2023 interview with Jennifer Siebel Newsom by MSNBC’s Jen Psaki has resurfaced, and it certainly won’t help Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) win over red state voters in 2028.

With his eye already on a future presidential run at that time, Newsom launched a “Campaign for Democracy” tour to boost Democratic efforts in Republican-led states, visiting Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, and Mississippi. His wife and children accompanied him on the trip.

Siebel Newsom sat down with Psaki in Alabama, and the elitism and condescension in her remarks were impossible to hide.

Psaki asked, “Why was it important to you to take them on this trip to red states and learn about the history of this country?”

She essentially told Psaki she brought her children along so they could witness racism, sexism, and bullying firsthand — implying that bigotry, intolerance, and similar forms of hate are confined to red states.

Readers can judge her response for themselves. Here is Siebel Newsom’s reply:

I don’t think, or I know for a fact, that we don’t get all of this history in our schools. And it’s part of enlivening them, building their curiosity, expanding their hearts, their empathy, so they themselves can be the change they wish to see in the world and recognize that, you know, that we have work to do, and that we have healing to do.And so that they can be, you know, use their voices to stand up and speak out when they see pain and suffering, and bullying and racism and misogyny around them.I’m a truth seeker. They need to know the truth.

I think many of us can agree with the X user below who wrote: “It’s important to remember that most highly educated elitist Democrats are, in their heart of hearts, extremely bad people.”

These are just extraordinary remarks from someone who aspires to be the future First Lady. If her husband secures the Democratic nomination, her comments are likely to be replayed on a continuous loop in red states during the general election.

What was she thinking? She just insulted 50% of voters. This was the equivalent of Hillary Clinton’s “basket of deplorables” moment or Barack Obama’s “bitter clingers” speech. Her contempt for rural America could not be mistaken.

Reaction on social media to Siebel Newsom’s words was largely negative. One commenter mocked her by writing, “Let’s take the kids to Alabama so they can see racists up close!”

I agree with the comments above, but one response to this clip on Instapundit stood above the rest: “If Psaki weren’t in it, I’d swear that video came from the Babylon Bee. Newsom’s wife is exactly who would be cast if they were looking for a parody of a rich California liberal politician’s wife.”

He nailed it.

Both Newsom and his wife are trying too hard to play the part. But they miss the mark because there’s simply no depth there. It’s almost painful to watch.
