Petulant Democrats Planning to Skip Trump’s State of the Union Address

A number of Democrats are planning to skip President Trump’s State of the Union Address next week, opting instead for purely partisan events organized by far-left groups.
You know what? Good. The event will be better off without them. Like millions of other Americans, I am sick to death of these people.

A Growing Number of Democrats Are Skipping Trump’s State of the Union Address
A growing number of Democrats won’t be in the House chamber Tuesday when President Donald Trump gives his State of the Union address.
They’re instead boycotting the speech by going to counterprograms, launching their own responses outside the chamber or staying home. About 20 Democrats are already slated to attend “The People’s State of the Union” event on the National Mall, hosted by progressive organizations MoveOn and MeidasTouch. A spokesperson for MoveOn told NOTUS that number is expected to grow through Tuesday. And Defiance.org is hosting the “State of the Swamp” event at the National Press Club with several current and former lawmakers.
“We’ll be criticized for it. I get that,” Rep. John Larson, who is attending the People’s State of the Union, told NOTUS. “But I’m willing to take the heat for being willing to tell the truth.”
“This isn’t just people sitting there meekly listening and absorbing,” Larson added. “[Trump is] entitled to say whatever he wants to say, and he should be listened to respectfully while he’s there — anyone, for that matter. But I’m under no obligation to sit through it, and further, believe that I have an obligation to make sure that people hear that there is a distinct other side to this.”
I hope Democrats enjoy their counter-programming. I will enjoy not seeing their bitter, sour faces and stupid ping-pong paddles riddled with anti-Trump messages.
For their official response, Democrats have chosen new Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger, which solidifies the belief that they see her bait-and-switch campaign as a national model going forward.

Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger will deliver the Democratic rebuttal to President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address next week, Democratic Minority Leaders Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer announced Thursday.
Sen. Schumer said Spanberger “has always put service over politics,” and Rep. Jeffries praised Spanberger for her decisive victory in November’s election.
“She stands in stark contrast to Donald Trump, who will lie, deflect and blame everyone but himself for his failed presidency on Tuesday evening,” Jeffries said.
In a statement, Spanberger said Americans expect and deserve “leaders who are working hard to deliver for them.”
“We are at a defining moment in our nation’s history,” she said. “Virginians and Americans across the country are contending with rising costs, chaos in their communities, and a real fear of what each day might bring.”
It’s rich to hear Spanberger talking about rising costs. She ran on affordability, yet Democrats in Virginia are now trying to add new taxes to everything from car ownership to dog walking.
I hope lots of Democrats skip the SOTU address. Trump should give their seats to average Americans who would be happy to attend in their places.

The SOTU address is largely DC theater anyway. One side cheers the other boos/refuses to clap with an occasional bipartisan ovation for a particularly inspiring guest.

If the roles were reversed, the Democrats would probably arrest all of the Republicans that didn’t attend the SOTU and send them to re-education camps or to rot in some D.C. prison.

Virginia stands on the edge of a fiscal precipice, ready to fall into financial ruin if the Democrats in this state actually pass everything they put out there in legislative campaign promises.
They used Spanberger as a “centrist” mask to get what they want, and she looks poised to rubber-stamp all the lefty dystopian goodies. This stupid speech is a perfect tribute to the case study that will sadly be my home and birth state (which I may leave soon, along with a mass exodus). Virginia could easily go from being for lovers to losers. It won’t happen overnight, but I expect it to start happening before her term is over.
First up on the priority list is collective bargaining for the public sector with the repeal of the right to work. This looks VERY likely to pass. These people will then look to blame Republicans, who will not allow the Democrats to overturn the state Constitution that requires a balanced budget. It is illegal in the state to deficit spend (it has been a stalwart as one of the last remaining fiscally conservative states). Public sector unions and entitlements galore, with no deficit spending, are going to lead to crippling taxation and loss of jobs for many in the state. Ripple effects will be massive…my area in the Southeast may be hit much worse if they cut military funding.
Someone will then inherit either a mess or a place that has been propped up by leftist corruption in DC. The chances of that being remedied are not promising. I watch and wait standing ready to migrate/find an exit strategy.
We are experiencing the erosion of norms in this country. What starts out as a symbolic protest by a few will eventually lead to a permanent fracture in how the government functions:
1. When politicians stop showing up to hear the other side, they stop being able to negotiate with them
2. If one side skips the SOTU, the other side might skip the Inauguration or refuse to attend committee hearings. Pretty soon the whole system of civilized disagreement is ruined
You mean like when the Democrats shut down the government and refused to negotiate or even sigh a continuing resolution? Or the Democrats’ demands for shutting down the DHS?
I don’t see “do what we want or else” is negotiating at all.
No offense, but have you actually watched hearings and committee meetings lately? Representatives from both sides of the aisle show up to only make speeches. There is very little back and forth or even listening to the “other side.”
It is all some weird Kabuki theater where representatives are more concerned with sound bites for YouTube, X, and their webpages.

The sickness of the Democrats is historical. How can they be so out of touch and so lacking humanity, when they were supposed to be the protectors?
