Mamdani Slammed for Snubbing Catholics After Skipping Archbishop Ceremony

“Mamdani has been in office for just over a month, and already he is signaling to Catholics that they are not welcome.”

People have slammed New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani for skipping the ceremony installing the new archbishop of the New York Archdiocese.

Ronald Hicks, 58, became the new archbishop on Friday, the 11th archbishop in the archdiocese’s history since 1850.

Every sitting NYC mayor, regardless of religion, has attended the event since 1939, when then-Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia attended the installation of Cardinal Francis Spellman as archbishop.

The Catholic League went off on Mamdani for stiffing “Catholics for the third time.”

“Mamdani has been in office for just over a month, and already he is signaling to Catholics that they are not welcome,” wrote Bill Donohue. “He is also telling Jews that either they side with him in bashing Israel, or they, too, can take a walk.”

Donohue pointed out:

Representatives of the clergy from several religions were present at the inauguration of Zohran Mamdani. But no Catholic priest was there.

Representatives of the clergy from several religions were present at Mamdani’s Interfaith Breakfast on February 6. But no Catholic priest was there. Significantly, the UJA-Federation of New York, the New York Board of Rabbis and the Anti-Defamation League, all of which had previously sponsored this meeting, declined to do so this year.

The mayor of New York City traditionally attends the installation of the new archbishop of New York, but Mamdani—who was invited—ghosted the event. The installation began a few hours after the Interfaith Breakfast at the New York Public Library; it is a short walk up Fifth Avenue to St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

He could easily have been there. Instead, he attended to business as usual.

One in three New Yorkers is Catholic.

A City Hall spokesperson said “that Mamdani had a scheduling conflict, so instead sent one of his deputy mayors, who is Catholic.”

City Hall told another reporter, “The mayor didn’t go but he tweeted about it.”

Oh, okay. That makes it all better.

The New York Post reported that Mamdani’s schedule only included the prayer breakfast and a press conference at 4 PM.

The ceremony began at 2 PM and lasted about one hour and 50 minutes.

Bill Cunningham, former communications director and top advisor to former Mayor Michael Bloomberg, reminded Mamdani “that Catholics pay attention to how the church and its institutions are treated.”

Cunningham is not wrong.

Here’s the whole ceremony and Hicks’ homily. I love my faith, especially our traditions. So beautiful.

As a Catholic, I Think it makes for a better ceremony NOT to have Mamdani there.

NYC is a muslim city now. Catholics and Jew aren’t wanted,

I sure hope no one in NYC is surprised that the commie Muslim mayor is stiff-arming Jews and Catholics.

Because it would only be shocking if he DIDN’T.

The commie Muslim will be more or less tolerant of the squishier mainline Protestant churches, for a while at least, because they share many progressive beliefs with commies.

But where the rubber hits the road, the Muslim will be ascendent, as their scriptures demand.

I have a feeling Catholic churches in NYC should make certain their fire insurance premiums stay paid up. Just a thought.

He was afraid someone might throw holy water on him and he’d melt.

Zohran doesn’t think he needs catholic vote to win? Or doesn’t want to dodge awkward questions about christians getting massacred by muslims in nigeria?

If I read this article correctly, the Catholic representation for Mamdani’s inauguration as other events was a snub because no Catholic was invited.

My fear is this: Unless Catholics take a stand against the Islamic treatment of women, especially as second class citizens (yes, there are Omar and Tlaib exceptions) but overall the male ability to call all the shots, witnesses on charges of rape, etc. do not contribute to a free society.

Today, too many Catholics vote democrat – this should stop. We are not talking about JFK. Today, Democrat “values” merging with Islamic values is a far cry from equality. Islamisists want to remove Jews (the Saturday people) first, then Christians (today, mostly Catholic who are the Sunday people). Today’s inequality, brutality, ability to lie to anyone, anywhere, anytime about anything, etc. of radical Islamisists is unacceptable in a Constitutional Republic – one based on individual freedom.

One can be nice and attend open events but trusting them is an entire different issue.

1 in 3 citizens of Rome/s, are Catholic

Too bad only 7 % of them voted

Newsflash: Mamdani doesn’t care. (Also, the sun rises in the east)

He got elected without the votes of those who might care whether he pays any respect to Catholicism.

Islam-Marxism wants to take a bulldozer, not build a bridge, to these institutions.

Do not expect any restraint within the levers of power he has available.

The question is why give him respect other than what is due a human. Don’t try to get him to come to you unless he wants to convert. Work on things that actually help people which Islam and Marxism are not. Part of the problem is, and this is not just in the Catholic Church, too many of the Christian clergy are fascinated if not outright seduced by Marxism.

Muslim Mamdani. Remember that and don’t be surprised what he does next.

Y’all ain’t seen nothing yet. I expect that Ramadan [I think it is in May] is going to be eventful in New York City.

This year Ramadan begins on 17 February. The timing fluctuates each year compared to the Gregorian calendar b/c it follows the Islamic calendar which has fewer days in each month based on the lunar cycle. It begins with first sighting of the crescent moon after the 8th month in the Islamic lunar calendar.

I’d agree it might be spicier than usual with some goons attempting to enforce the strictures on non Muslims.

Would love to see them knock some liberal/LBTGQ+ heads. Might wake some of them up (even as it sends some to hospital). Such persons are often the most easily identifiable offenders against Muslim sensibilities, so they would be likely targets.

It wouldn’t surprise me to see it but more focused on the ‘fasting’ aspect than ‘modesty’. Some guy/gal on the subway getting the sandwich knocked out of their hand wouldn’t be a shock to me.

“The Catholic League went off on Mamdani for stiffing “Catholics for the third time.”

Don’t forget to drop your liberal tears in his chalice while you’re dropping your wallets into his poorbox.

I highly recommend listening to Mark Levin’s radio program from last night, 2/9/2026. The audio clips of various Muslim leaders speaking about their efforts to conquer the United States from within are chilling.

Mohammedanism is a gross perversion of Catholicism. Its adherents are enemies of the faith and their presence in a Catholic Church is a vile desecration.

Extra Ecclesiam nulla salus

Personally, if mayor I wouldn’t have attended. But then I wouldn’t attend any event of religious significance. I would issue a statement acknowledging the importance to believers (whether it’s Christmas, Rosha Shana, Ramadan, or what have you), but I 1.) have no need for religious ceremonies; 2.) won’t pretend they’re important to me; and 3.) am greatly averse (and have been since I was about 8 years old) to masses, weddings, funerals, and the like. For instance, I plan to not show up at my own funeral.

Wait for Mamdani opens the 9/11 Mosque and see if the Archbishop shows up.

smart move by him

now theyyy will come crawling to him out of fear that he “doesnt like them” and will investigate them etc

Reaping what was sewn.

Kristallnacht for the churches?
will the lemon be there to film?

What’s so hard to understand? He’s a bigot. And New Yorkers (to their eternal shame) voted for him, because they’re either bigots or idiots.

Sorry, but it’s time to write off the Rotten Apple.

A Muslim and a commie treated Christians with contempt?
Well, I never.
But millions of Russians, Cambodians, Spaniards, and Chinese have.

Jaundiced Observer | February 12, 2026 at 4:04 am

Hizzoner can’t be seen consorting with kuffar.

The nible Quran tells Muslims never to take kuffar as helpers or allies – that’s straight from Allah’s mouth right from Jibril, his angelic messenger.

Give Hizzonner a break, okay?

Maybe Hizzonner will invite some people of the Book to a scimitsr tasting party. I understand that they’re fun events.
