Context Matters: The Story Behind Trump Video that Depicts Obamas as Monkeys
Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), who is black, said the video was the “most racist thing I’ve seen out of this White House.”
To say the least, President Trump ruffled some feathers across the Beltway on Friday.
Late Thursday night, he shared a video on Truth Social alleging vote-counting anomalies in several battleground states during the 2020 election.
Unfortunately, at the end of the video, the first few frames of a second clip briefly appeared, showing Barack and Michelle Obama depicted as monkeys. The optics were terrible and, understandably, a social media firestorm ensued.
One X user wrote, “The argument that Trump isn’t a racist are over. This man is 100% a racist.”
Another called Trump “the most openly racist President since slavery was abolished, just shared a video of Michelle & Barack Obama as APES. This is what the Republican party is now.”
Piers Morgan posted on X that he “sincerely hope[s] President @realDonaldTrump didn’t realise this 60-second clip he reposted last night didn’t end with the vile racist imagery of the Obamas as apes.” He called on Trump to delete the post immediately.
The criticism wasn’t confined to the left. Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), who is black, said the video was the “most racist thing I’ve seen out of this White House.”
Trump subsequently deleted the post.
But context matters. The second clip was an AI-generated Lion King meme video that depicted Trump as the Lion King — naturally — with notable past and present Democratic figures from the Washington establishment portrayed as animals of lower status. For example, Hillary Clinton was cast as a warthog, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries as a meerkat, Whoopi Goldberg as a hippopotamus, and former President Joe Biden as a baboon.
The same video that depicts Barack Obama and Michelle Obama as apes, also depicts Joe Biden as a chimpanzee, Kamala Harris as a turtle, Hakeem Jeffries as a lemur, and Whoopie Goldberg as a hippo.
In other words, it's just more manufactured outrage from the desperate left. pic.twitter.com/E48O6vF0h0

So you feel this is appropriate presidential behavior???
— Barb Tesorero (@BTesorero) February 7, 2026
The video was about voter fraud and the auto play at the end played the AI video with the Lion King characters.
It was a mistake, they took it down. People are trying to make this way bigger than it is. There was no malicious intent here.

The election interference video is shown below, along with a screenshot of Michelle Obama from the Lion King video that briefly appeared at the end.

Fake news! Trump did not post the video on his timeline on Truth Social. Besides, he is also captured in the video. The author made a meme of many politicians including Trump. pic.twitter.com/APx7WY894G

It remains unclear how the two-second Lion King clip ended up attached to the election fraud video. The most plausible explanation is an editing error, as the X user notes in the post below. There is no serious reason to believe Trump intentionally included it.
It would take just a moment to research and figure out that Trump did not share an "Obamas are apes" video. He shared a video about election fraud that, when screengrabbed, was stopped late and included the first few seconds of an auto-played, cheesy "Trump as King of the Jungle"… https://t.co/UNqJyZSgLo pic.twitter.com/Kjh84whmOw

Politico reporter Ben Johansen reached out to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt for a comment on Friday morning, who saw the situation as much ado about nothing. She told Johansen, “This is from an internet meme video depicting President Trump as the King of the Jungle and Democrats as characters from The Lion King. Please stop the fake outrage and report on something today that actually matters to the American public.”
In response to a video President Trump posted Thursday depicting the Obamas as monkeys, press secretary Karoline Leavitt told Politico:
"This is from an internet meme video depicting President Trump as the King of the Jungle and Democrats as characters from the Lion King.…

Leavitt’s point is well taken. Manufactured outrage has become a defining feature of the modern left, and few figures trigger it faster than Trump. Let them have their moment. In the meantime, most reasonable voters — like the two cited below — are likely to see the episode for what it was: a mistake, not a statement of intent.
The press cheered while the left tried to bankrupt the President, destroy his businesses and throw him in jail, so you'll have to forgive me for not participating in the media’s latest iteration of the outrage olympics. The White House has already made clear that the two second… https://t.co/zWPw2o09Ro

Trump said Friday night that he would not fire the staffer responsible for the error.
🚨 BREAKING: Liberals are livid after President Trump told the Fake News to SHOVE IT, he's NOT firing the staffer who accidentally posted the Obama ape meme

Finally, Hakeem Jeffries weighed in with his usual vitriol. He posted his rant on X: “This disgusting video, posted by the so-called president, was done intentionally. … F*** Donald Trump and his vile, racist and malignant behavior.”

ironies allll over the place
the blk community is the most protected almost the world over
yet they overwhelmingly lead in per capita
violent crimes babies out of wedlock fatherless homes education and probably lawsuit wins for being “looked at the wrong way” than any other group
that would not excuse anyone showing anything racist towards them as acceptable
yet we find ourselves again kotowing to the lefts outrage
From a group that sees “racism” in math, being on time, politeness, speaking proper English and pointing out the inherent racism of their “affirmative action” and quota programs are not worthy of notice.
How ironic
The left (and many effete republicans) gets upset because a staffer posted a video that inadvertently had a meme at the end.
The meme portrayed Michelle Obama as a silver backed gorilla (which some may say is a semi-accurate portrayal as an alternative to he/she having a male appendage).
The irony? The fervor over the video has made the meme video a viral sensation, allowing many media platforms to present it as news, and not the meme as it is.
One would say that maybe the staffer was an absolute genius!
The Streisand Effect.
Maybe but here we have cogent evidence that all is not as represented with electronic voting tabulators with a pretty irrefutable example of a Michigan tabulator with a mysterious modem chip that apparently saw some use and all anyone is discussing is a completely irrelevant split second insertion of material. In other words, this completely unrelated split second material only serves as an excuse to ignore the content. Perhaps this was its intended effect?
Just saw an explanation that suggests that the image was a video auto scroll preview. If so then it sure was a boon to the race grifters who could not only exploit race and attack President Trump, but also end any real discussion of the serious problem with Michigan voter tabulators outlined in the video.
No, we do not have evidence. The video clip is from 2021, and is a fraud from beginning to end. It starts out with a blatant lie: “Initiated by a court order…”. There was no such order. The so-called “investigators” were illegally given these machines by corrupt county clerks. They then tampered with the machines and rendered them unfit for further use. The people responsible for this theft, Matt DePerno, Daire Rendon, and Stephanie Lambert, are facing criminal trials later this year.
Don’t know any history about that and given the questionable way Michigan state and local authorities conducted themselves during and after the 2020 election (remember the boxes covering windows at counting centers and late night ballot dumps? Good times), not to mention the antics of the FBI, I actually not prepared to accept your assessment at face value. Did they confess to anything? What is your source?
But even more important, Milhouse, your comment says nothing as to the out of context insertion of this split second of material. It bears no resemblance or relevance whatsoever to the actual video, just some out of context random insertion. So your comment is essentially pointless.
It was a direct reply to your comment, which was about the video itself, not about the beginning of the next video that everyone else is talking about. You are the one who made that the subject.
The video itself, that Trump meant to post is not, as you claimed “cogent evidence” of Dominion fraud. It’s a bullshit video that’s from 2021 and it’s not evidence of anything.
No, Milhouse. My comment was about the insertion of this out of context material that was irrelevant to the subject matter of the main video. Rather difficult to point out it was irrelevant without noting the subject. Whether it was cogent evidence or debunked lies (you have yet to supply a source), this split second interlude of material was irrelevant. Please refrain from responding to my comment if you can’t bring yourself to be honest.
No, it wasn’t. Your comment was about the main video, not the irrelevant bit that came after. You specifically complained that all the attention was going to the irrelevant trailer when it should be on the video itself. Here is what you wrote:
Therefore my reply was to that, and it was directly on point. Indeed my comment was not about the irrelevant trailer, which you said doesn’t warrant all this attention it’s getting. So what’s your complaint now? Did you forget what you wrote?! And how dare you claim that I “can’t bring myself to be honest”?!
As for the clip itself and whether there was a court order, the story has been all over the news for the last five years! The trials are scheduled to start in the next few months after much delay. You can easily find the details and see immediately that the claim that there was a court order to produce the machines is a blatant lie.
For your convenience, the original video title is “Your Wake Up Call” and it’s by Phil Waldron. For what it’s worth here’s an article purporting to debunk the video. I haven’t fact-checked the “fact-check”, so I’m just giving you the link but take it with as much salt as you think necessary.
However it seems completely clear that there was never any court order. The three people facing trial this year are Matt DePerno, Stephanie Lambert, and Daire Rendon. Obviously if there were a court order there would be no case at all. The defendants would simply produce the court order and the charges would immediately be dismissed. The court that issued the order would intervene if necessary. The fact that there’s a case proves that the order never existed.
That’s your source? Lead Stories? A biased democrat “fact checker”? I think we can dismiss your debunked claim as a big FALSE. What a joke.
As I said, take it with as much salt as it needs. It was the first one that came up and I wasn’t inclined to spend more time searching. But that gives you enough to do your own searching if you like. No matter how hard you search you will not find anything that supports Waldron’s claims. He’s a fraud and a charlatan.
And you must admit that the very fact that these criminal cases are going on means that Waldron’s claim that the machines were produced pursuant to a court order was a blatant, outright, big fat LIE. If there were a court order it would be impossible for these criminal cases to exist.
Actually upon reflection, maybe your pointless comment is not so pointless after all (although not as you intended). If this video is actually a completely debunked lie from 2021, and still not sure of your source but assuming you’re correct, then that one wonder even more how it came to be selected and cleared for reposting in the first place in 2026. Was a staffer deliberately intending to foment the faux outrage that actually ensued? Some in the political sector do occasionally engage in dirty tricks.
Trump still seems to be convinced that all these ridiculous lies from 2020 and 2021 about obvious and easy-to-prove fraud (as opposed to the subtle and difficult-to-prove fraud that we know the Democrat Party specializes in) were true, and he keeps posting this nonsense, which only serves to distract attention from the actual shenanigans that went on in 2020, most of which were legal though unfair, but a good many of which were illegal, but are difficult to prove to the standard required by a court. Which is why we need stronger protections of vote integrity in advance of elections.
You seem to know something about lies given your “fact checking” sources.
I know that the outlandish claims pushed by Giuliani, Powell, Waldron, etc, in the aftermath of 2020, were proven beyond all possible doubt to be big fat stupid lies, and that this served unfairly to discredit Republicans pointing out the actual Democrat fraud and other shenanigans.
Democrats cheat at elections, This is a well-known and long-standing fact. It’s a tradition by now. But they don’t do it in simple and obvious ways that are easy to prove in time to affect the results. Because they’re dishonest, not stupid.
Not to mention that in addition to their illegal shenanigans, which they do their best to conceal, the majority of their shenanigans are legal, and therefore they don’t bother too hard to conceal those, because there’s nothing that can be done about them after the event, even if proven. They boast about this part of their operations, because they can. We have to try to stop those as well, by changing the laws, but in many cases we can’t because of the first amendment. For instance, publishing false news is protected; and that is worth probably a 15% swing to the Democrats.
indians are pissed off b/c people think of them as courageous warriors
jews are mad because/c people say they are wealthy and powerful and doctors etc
women are angry b/c they can get what they want with a smile and letting you grab them if you are wealthy

Don’t care.
The video could be explicitly racist and I still wouldn’t care.
My give a 💩 meter is completely busted vis-a-vis race.
“ …the most openly racist President since slavery was abolished…”
Pretty sure that was LBJ, the man who championed legislation that enslaved blacks a third time in service to Uncle Sam in perpetuity.
Obama was overtly racist as well. He didn’t hesitate to invoke race into every issue during his awful tenure in the white house.
Race card: denied.
I agree with your comments regarding LBJ and Obama but you left off Biden who has a history of insensitive racial remarks and was best buds with kkk member Robert Byrd,
Potatobrain: “If you don’t vote for me, you’re not really black.”
“LBJ, the man who championed legislation that enslaved blacks a third time in service to Uncle Sam in perpetuity.”
…and then made it QUITE clear to anyone within earshot what he really thought of them.
Of course, let’s not forget WIlson, who re-segregated the USG and the military.
Wilson, who was also perhaps the worst president ever until Biden.
Another fine post by Milhouse.
To think that the NAACP backed him for the presidential election and then saw Wilson re-segregate the government (and especially the military)…. and they still stuck with him. I’ll stick with the Tuskegee group headed by Booker T. Washington and George Washington Carver… to be admired for what they really did.
Not racist. All dems are depicted as animals from africa. Even the white dems. It could be considered political satire, not unlike Animal Farm by Orwell.
Trump can be found depicted with pig face in memes by dems. But dems don’t call that racist. Double standards much?
“I don’t fear the marxists’ boos because I’ve seen what they cheer.”
I don’t care this lion king spoof depicted the Obama Bros. as monkeys. I don’t care.
Marxist meat puppets tried to assassinate Trump – twice., after attempting to bankrupt him, and put him in prison for monkey business with a wh0re.
Throngs of marxist meat puppets cheered the murder of Charlie Kirk.
Marxist meat puppets ignored the murders of women at the hands of illegal aliens repeatedly released back onto the streets by revolving door judges, yet cheer marxists meat puppets who attempt to murder ICE agents enforcing laws passed by congress while marxist meat puppets in congress smear ICE agents as nazzis.
I don’t care this lion king spoof depicted the Obama Bros. as monkeys. I don’t care.
This just proves how smart Bill Clinton was when he said he didn’t do e-mail. Trump and his “Humor” should just get off electronic media and stick to live feeds. How many times has he given them a week’s worth of insults because of a misworded email or tweet?
greedy, STOP Tweeting
I think , though it would be not accepted , is a more nuanced statement
Especially to reach out to Tim Scott and other black republicans, in private.
Seems everyone is swearing , Jefferson’s and his big F to President Trump, Trump himself has been foul mouthed
This is what we are showing our children
I don’t think
It is ok and
I have a potty mouth in private and I must say a few times in comments
But really, clean it up.
This is insane and
It doesn’t look tuff. It looks ghetto
DNA tests would solve this.
“Wisdom Panel” reported 23% coyote.
If I were those apes, I’d be pissed.
Oh, spare me. Google “George W. Bush as a chimpanzee” and see what results. They’re using race as a shield against criticism. Some have responded with memes comparing Trump to chimps. I thought that’s been officially disallowed? Oh, right. Trump doesn’t have a race card to play.
At my card table, anyone playing the race card is a cheater, because the deck I deal doesn’t contain one.
Of course the cheetah would play the race card. It does win most races.
And he is a compulsive cheetah.
Well played, Milhouse.

NEVER apologize to the left.
Only when they apologize to the right … ok same thing.
IMO this was:
1. An unforced error
2. Compounded by refusal to acknowledge an error
3. Compounded further by sending out the WH Press Sec to claim fake news
4. Refusal by POTUS to take responsibility
5. Pulling the post after all that denial
It was NOT intentional but it WAS an error that was followed by deliberate missteps in not immediately saying so. Refusing to accept responsibility for making errors comes across as either arrogance (my sh#7 don’t stink) or as ignorance/out of touch (I don’t understand why anyone is upset despite allies telling you it was or could be reasonably interpreted as offensive)
Everyone makes errors, nobody is perfect. The best leaders have a thick skin, acknowledge their errors, accept the responsibility that comes with their position (that everything which does or doesn’t happen in the organization is the responsibility of the leaders). The Trump WH could have easily shut this all down early by making self deprecating jokes about it (Trump could have said something like ‘I think I’m more regal appearing than the image in the second video, that it was unflattering to all depicted and that he’d be ‘talking to’ the young staffer who made a mistake about how marketing works’. Trump could then riff on his extensive marketing and sales experience/expertise. Yes, the legacy media would and d/prog would still try and milk it but at minimum that sort of response stops the bleeding and doesn’t dig the hole any deeper. It gives Indy voters a way to offramp from the claims of racism b/c they see Trump admit error, take accountability use humour to defuse instead of digging a deeper hole where they might wonder ‘maybe the d/prog are right b/c Trump Admin won’t even admit it might look bad to some regardless of the intent’.
I think the president’s approach is the right one. Trying to make a joke of the posting would just give additional momentum to those attacking him–who, by the way, will attack him because that is what they do. Treat it as something not worthy of attention, and move on. That’s what George Marshall did when Joe McCarthy called him a communist.
IF that approach had been the 1st WH response then maybe, but it wasn’t.
Trump admitted that he didn’t watch the whole thing to the end, didn’t see the start of the second video. Then declares there’s ‘no mistake’….if there’s no mistake then don’t take down the post… but we can admit that at minimum
1. Trump should watch/read the stuff he wants his Social media team to post/retweet/like/promote
2. His social media team gotta do the same to double check for any controversy the Boss may have missed, which is kinda their reason for existence, otherwise Trump would do it himself directly instead of sending it to an intermediary to do it.
In sum there’s two errors here at minimum that Trump himself described that I referenced above. There’s an implied error on communication/strategy/integration b/c they sent out the Press Sec to say in essence ‘no biggie, that’s it, next question the topic is closed’ then cut her legs out later on.
I totally agree it wasn’t the intent of the WH to even show the second video. Had the WH come out with the same response Trump made as the first/only response they’d have avoided some issues. IMO there was clearly an error (2x) in posting it with the second vid coming up and to argue it was done without error means it was done intentionally.
Admitting to small errors demonstrates strength, while claiming there’s no error when clearly there was, unless we’re to believe it done intentionally, is weak IMO.
Agreed
1. I agree with you, it was an unforced error.
2-5 it’s like you ain’t even know the left 🙄
None of these things would have made an ounce of difference to the left. They couldn’t give a f88k about Trump apologising for any of this. All they are interested in is fueling their hyper sensitivity to rwaaaaaaacism 🙄
In fact Trump doing any of those things would have only outraged them more by fueling their sense outrage to even higher levels of anger.
So no, numbers 2 to 5 would be even bigger is goals than number 1 ever was.
Correct. It would have fed into the outrage. Even taking it down is seen as an admission it was racissss.
Although I take it as a good sign that Hakeem Jeffries as a meerkat is OK, but I’m sure meerkats everywhere are not thrilled with the association.
Yeah, which is why I specified the audience for this was the Independent voters and NOT the leftists who have consumed too much kool aid to ever be reached/reasoned with.
What you say makes sense – except it NEVER applies to Democrats. They call Republicans Nazis, pedophiles 24 x 7 and no demands for apologies. In fact encouraged and enabled by the Dems’ media toadies. So no, too bad so sad.
IMO we stop worrying about communication with d/prog or how things will be perceived by d/prog as a block. They ain’t the audience we should be trying to reach b/c they ain’t really reachable for the most part.
Instead focus on how to effectively communicate with and perception of the communication strategy by the true audience; independents and soft voters.
There’s roughly a 45% d/prog and 43% GoP split nationwide. Within those are a few ‘soft’ voters call it 5% each. So that means there’s really a political makeup of:
Hard core d/prog 40%
Hard core GoP 38%
Neither of those blocks gonna be swayed by ads or appeals they are gonna vote ‘their team’ regardless.
That leaves us with: 10% ish Soft voters of each party which can occasionally be swayed to vote for the other team and 12% ish of true Indy voters. Both those groups but with emphasis on the Indy voters are the true audience we should be try to reach and convince b/c those are only ones who are even open to the idea of being convinced.
I seem to recall 8 years of George W. Bush being depicted as a chimp.
Before him…..”Ape”raham Lincoln”…. look it up. OK…. make Michelle a Hippo. Biden is Scar. BHO… hum Black Mamba but that does a disservice to the late Kobe Bryant. Make him Puff(ed up) Adder..
Jeffries deserved to be CENSURED!
As for the video, not great judgment, but Trump would be called racists with or without it. Imagine what they would say about him if he was black.
He’s not wearing his sombrero. That’s racist. He obviously has something against Mexicans.
This is what you end up with when your demand for racism far out strips the supply
Oh, there is real racism out there alright but it’s almost exclusively aimed at Jews. Because that racism is encouraged by the left you end up with Jews in Australia being gunned down, Jews in New York City being executed at gun point, Jews in Universities being targeted for the crime of being Jews, Jews in Israel being butchered because the are Jews.
Not only that, but the left DEMANDS Jews be hunted!
That kind of racism does exist and it’s almost wholly owned by the left.
You do know that there’s been about six decades of deliberate racist discrimination against plain vanilla white males? That in no way minimizes the discrimination or really campaign of terrorist physical assaults, murder of Jews.
Work with me here commo. We all know the real racists live on the left.
Yes the left is predominantly the home of modern racism, which is reflected in their obsession about race, ethnicity, sex, gender, sexual orientation, disability and so on.
What you stated was that the ‘real racism is almost exclusively directed at Jews’. That’s patently false. I’d agree that the overwhelming amount of physical confrontation and shouting/shoving is directed at Jews…but that’s not the majority of ‘racism’ or discrimination by a long shot.
Consider that under the prevailing conditions prior to say five years ago for sure and maybe ten years… so basically in the post WWII era to 2015 and especially from mid sixties when Affirmative Action and unspoken hiring, admissions and promotion quotas were adopted that the demographic excluded from a ‘positive boost up/thumb on the scale in their favor was ‘plain vanilla white males’.
The basic/generic white guys didn’t get a special quota or set aside based on their Race, Ethnicity, National Origin, Sex, disability, Sexual orientation, status as a religious minority or anything else. But White Women did, as did Jews and homosexuals precisely because they had ‘sprinkles’ topping their otherwise ‘plain vanilla cone’. IMO today we see some shifting among the latter three groups away from their prior decades of support for lefty AA, DEI, CRT programs at least in part b/c these same three groups are being pushed further down the list for their ‘share’ of the grievance grift. Now that it is in their own economic interests to scream and shout against picking winners and losers based on immutable traits they do so….but unfortunately a good number of these folks (not all but more than we’d like to admit) only changed their tune when ‘their’ particular ‘sprinkle’; sexual orientation, sex/gender, religion/ethnicity, began to be outweighed by their ‘whiteness’ and they began to be suburb the same sorts of discrimination against them that ‘plain vanilla white males’ have experienced in admissions, hiring, promotions and career opportunities for six decades.
If you disregard the “Trump made this” or “Trump showed this” elements, and the hagiography that lacks a real punchline, the video is hilarious.
I recognized everybody but the pink soprano pig, and the male flamingo(?) near the end. Who were they?
OK, so nobody’s going to tell me who they are? I’m genuinely curious.
I don’t care about the ‘context’. It was a silly meme.
A leftist protester called a black ICE officer the n-word to his face on video the other day and not a single one of these oh-so-concerned leftists said a word about it.
Tim Scott seems desperate to get in the left’s good graces.
Intelligent comments could have been made, even if not in defense of Trump. Scott chose not to make such comments. Very disappointing.
No Lyin’ Kings! Just kidding.
So glad that there are no more pressing issues in the country/world, and we can devote our time and energy to this.
MAGA!
The people shouting “kill ice” are lecturing us on norms and expect us to cower by yelling racist. Go crawl back into your hole Golem.
ZERO EFFS GIVEN.
I watched the entire Lion King takeoff and laughed in an astounded WTF way at the whole thing. It was silly and obviously a take trying to show all the politicians bowing to Trump The Lion King. What a silly thing. Why it was there attached to a video of voter fraud is something I’d like to know as the explanation doesn’t make sense to me. I’m not offended, though and the author is right. It’s just another hysteria of the day thing. Remember the furor when Trump said Hillary needs a good schlonging?
The clip that was posted was made by someone playing the Phil Waldron video on his computer and doing a screen capture. But that video was part of a reel or playlist of unrelated videos that played automatically one after the other, and he cut off the screen capture a second or two too late, presumably in order to be sure not to cut it off too early. Which is fine, but he then had to edit the video to cut those few seconds off, and he neglected to do that.
I’m not talking about someone in the White House, I’m talking some random stranger who produced this clip from a screen capture, and posted it somewhere. Trump or some staffer saw the beginning and thought it appropriate to pass it along, but didn’t bother watching all the way to the end.
