AOC Tries to Stop the Bleeding After Germany Gaffe, Faceplants in Late-Night Rant

AOC Tries to Stop the Bleeding After Germany Gaffe, Faceplants in Late-Night Rant

“I’m afraid the issue is not my understanding, but rather that perhaps you’ve grown accustomed to a president who never thinks before he speaks.”

By far, the biggest takeaway from the 2026 Munich Security Conference was the utter humiliation of Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY). Hoping to showcase her foreign policy bona fides on the world stage as she sets her sights on a higher office, she instead exposed a troubling lack of even basic fluency in international affairs.

Republicans rejoiced while Democrats cringed, as the congresswoman’s hopes for a future presidential campaign — or even a Senate bid — suddenly flashed before her eyes.

Over the weekend, she tried again to repair the damage with a late-night screed on Instagram. She shouldn’t have bothered. She only succeeded in humiliating herself further.

In the clip below — which I initially thought was AI-generated — she lashed out at her critics and, naturally, President Donald Trump. Sounding a bit hoarse, the congresswoman tried — unsuccessfully — to persuade the public that, of course, she understands foreign policy. She defended her “pause to think” by arguing the public has “grown accustomed to a president who never thinks before he speaks.”

If you think that I don’t understand foreign policy because, out of hours of discourse about international affairs, I pause to think about one of the most sensitive geopolitical issues that currently exists on Earth, I’m afraid the issue is not my understanding, but rather that perhaps you’ve grown accustomed to a president who never thinks before he speaks.

And yes, apparently, she does expect people to believe this.

At the Munich conference, the Democratic Socialist from New York mocked Secretary of State Marco Rubio for correctly pointing out that the cowboy culture in the Americas traces back to Spain and wrongly claimed that Venezuela lies south of the Equator. But it was Ocasio-Cortez’s faltering response when asked if the U.S. “would or should commit troops to defend Taiwan” in the event of a Chinese invasion that instantly went viral.

Clearly in over her head, she said:

Um, you know, I think that, uh, this is such a, uh, you know, I — I think that this is a, umm, this is of course a, uh, a very longstanding, um, policy of the United States – uh and I think what we are hoping for is we want to make sure that we never get to that point.

The shocking sound bite was replayed on a near-constant loop by media outlets around the world. The conclusion was clear: the former bartender who represents parts of Queens and the Bronx was not ready for prime time.

For those who may have missed it, her response can be heard in the clip below.

Acutely aware of the Grand Canyon-sized hit to her credibility her gaffe had caused, Ocasio-Cortez tried to stop the bleeding. First, she ran to a friendly reporter at The New York Times and claimed that speculation about a possible presidential bid, “had overshadowed her anti-authoritarian message” at the conference.

She noted that “efforts to make clips of ‘any five-to-10-second thing’ from her remarks go viral online, especially in the conservative ecosystem, had been done to ‘distract from the substance of what I am saying.'”

Here are a few excerpts from the interview:

This reporter came up to me and was like, ‘Is Munich the new New Hampshire?’ And I cannot say enough how out of touch and missing the point, genuinely, that is.

Global democracies are on fire the world over, and established parties are falling to right-wing populist movements.

‘Her performance about this, or her performance about that. What does that mean about her as a candidate?’ That’s not what I went to Munich for.

If I were running — if I had made a decision or anything about being president, or Senate, or anything like that — frankly, I say this all the time: Am I acting like someone who is trying to run? No! Because I’m there for a very different, specific purpose.

Ocasio-Cortez first won her seat in Congress by defeating 10-term incumbent Joe Crowley, then-chairman of the House Democratic Caucus and close ally to Nancy Pelosi, in a low-turnout Democratic primary in June 2018. Her upset victory shocked the political world.

Upon her arrival in January 2019, the 29-year-old former bartender took Washington, D.C., by storm. Despite her lack of experience and political knowledge, her charisma and media savvy quickly elevated her to the Democratic Party’s upper ranks.

It wasn’t long before talk of higher office — even the presidency — gained traction. But her performance in Germany underscored lingering doubts about her intelligence and her preparedness. We’ve glimpsed this before, but rarely so starkly. It will take time for Ocasio-Cortez to rebuild credibility after such a crushing defeat on the world stage.

“she instead exposed a troubling lack of even basic fluency in international affairs.”

She routinely exposes a lack of basic fluency or understanding of many things – the English language, basic history, geography, economics, law… I am forced to assume that she is well and truly embedded on the left side of the Bell curve.

A proud Boston University graduate, a shining example of the state of “higher education” today.

Martin in reply to MAJack. | February 23, 2026 at 4:48 pm

She graduated Cum Laude from Boston University in 2011 with a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and Economics and yet never shows any knowledge of International Relations or Economics.
At this point she should have a ready to go answer for the Taiwan question. I assume she locked up and went into ummm, welll… mode because she realized that actually telling the truth and saying “If I were POTUS and the Chinese invaded Taiwan I would do nothing.” would not be an acceptable answer. She needed time to come up with a lie on the spot.

What’s beautiful is her lack of ability to spin a non answer.

I don’t blame her for not wanting to give an answer, when her answer would be as bad as what she actually said, but FFS learn how to give a diatribe about America being world cop and WWI, WWII and South Korea, and Vietnam and Afghanistan and Iraq and oh wait… everybody forgot what question was asked. That is in politicians handbook 101.

Obama was the dumbest sack of rocks to ever rise. He would not have risen if he didn’t know how to answer questions he couldn’t answer.

She is what happens when a carefully narrated social media influencer gets to a national or international stage and no longer has a script in front of her. Ask a question slightly off the subject and she immediately flounders around and exposes her inch deep/mile wide knowledge looking foolish. Ghetto Barbie is another one. As long as she has a script and complicit media she is fine. Ask her anything in depth and she goes off the rails in a hurry.

We have to ask why a Representative from Queens, NY is over in Europe undermining the duly elected President. She does not represent the United States, she represents one of 435 congressional districts in this country. It’s unconscionable that the taxpayers had to pay for this badly executed publicity stunt. AOC proved that she is not now, and probably will never be presidential material.

Citizens of Hawaii and Washington see no reason why AOC should not pursue a senate seat.

destroycommunism | February 23, 2026 at 9:21 am

remember

she is the brightest banana of the bunch

What she lacks is the ability NOT to say anything.

She is emotionally immature and it comes across as clear as daylight every single time she opens her yap 🤣

    diver64 in reply to mailman. | February 23, 2026 at 11:41 am

Exactly. Just because someone asks you a question doesn’t mean you have to give a long answer. It’s ok to say you don’t really know but you will get with people who do and learn about it. When asked about Taiwan for example she should have just said that she doesn’t really know the entire history behind it but foreign policy is the purview of the President so she hasn’t focused on that and that wasn’t the forum for a Congresswomen to chime in. Done.

    What’s that old aphorism*?

‘It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.’

    * Another word that AOC doesn’t understand…

And that little girl voice REALLY doesn’t help.
She’s like Legally Blonde, but not as cute,

Put the iPhone down Sandy, you’re drunk.

destroycommunism | February 23, 2026 at 9:23 am

AOC’s idea of international affairs is fn some guy from europe and/or africa

She didn’t answer because she knew her answer would be worse. So she tried to stall, but she’s not nearly the quick-thinker she imagines herself to be.

“Are you asking me about china because I’m a woman?”
Immediately the press is all abuzz at the hint of political scandal since we now have a Leftist in A.O.C. claiming to know what a woman is.

AOC has nothing to worry about. She is EVERY bit as capable as Kamala.

    mailman in reply to Q. | February 23, 2026 at 11:30 am

Shes like Kamala was when she was younger (and lets not kid ourselves, young Kamala was easy on the eye…and apparently pretty free and easy with the lovin as well 🤣).

Leftists think they are so smart in their deep Marxism that they assume to be above others.

Dumb-as-rocks Occasional-Cortex’s pathological and malignant narcissism have served her well, in transforming her from a no-name, lazy and no-talent bartender into a Dhimmi-crat Party standard-bearer and demagogue, but, narcissism isn’t a substitute for intelligence and competence.

MajorWood in reply to guyjones. | February 23, 2026 at 1:34 pm

She hasn’t transformed herself. She is a modern Eliza Doolittle, perhaps better called Sandy Nonuttin. Some guy, forget name, strategically targeted a weak district in NY to win the primary and get her on stage. Now they are simply running her as a prop with the blessing of the media. She is perfect in this role as she knows that there are steep cliffs on all sides and a miss step on her part is a drop into oblivion, so she is mostly compliant. I suspect that in the future that they will take away her phone between 9PM and 7AM after this gaffe. Who knows, maybe the dude snoring in the background was already the guy assigned to keep her from doing stupid stuff when she was on her own time, and she saw this as an opportunity to show us all how snart she was.

henrybowman in reply to MajorWood. | February 24, 2026 at 2:41 am

“Some guy, forget name, strategically targeted a weak district in NY to win the primary and get her on stage.”
      Saikat Chakrabarti, “Justice Democrats.”

I read that she was selected to play the part of a Congressperson at a “casting call”, and that Chakrabarti has bankrolled and orchestrated her role every step of the way.

guyjones in reply to MajorWood. | February 24, 2026 at 1:38 pm

I meant “transformation” in the sense of career advancement. I recognize, obviously, that this dunce hasn’t changed her persona or personality. Hence, her leaning on her narcissism, as a substitute for substantive professional achievement and intelligence.

JackinSilverSpring | February 23, 2026 at 10:22 am

As Sen. Kennedy said of her: [She] “is like Kamala Harris, only with more bartending experience.”

This noxious twit will still run for Schmuck Schumer’s Senate seat, when the Schmuck is predictably kicked to the curb, and, she’ll get that seat, as a consolation prize, thus gaining an even more prominent perch from which to spew her neo-communist demagoguery and idiocy.

The Dhimmi-crat Party is the place to be, for dunces and fools who seek to fail upwards.

Next outing, someone should ask her if the US agriculture policy should emulate the policies of the famous Russian agonomist Lysenko. There is a good chance that she would run with that build-up.

AOC is probably the kind of American most Europeans would love to see as President.

Advanced degree from Harris’ school of word-saladology.

“Acutely aware of the Grand Canyon-sized hit to her credibility …

As if trying to pass off being “Sandy, from the Bronx,” when she is really “Sandy, from tony Yorktown Heights” wasn’t enough of a hit.

Conservative Beaner | February 23, 2026 at 10:55 am

She has “credibility”.
You’re joking, right?

William F Buckley paused to think before answering, Henry Kissinger paused to think. Sandy, you are nowhere near their intellectual power. You could stop to think about a question until next October but it would be like searching a dark room for a needle.

Her lack of intelligence aside, Ocasio-Cortez is still very dangerous.

She is a Marxist who knows how to stir up the Democrat and radical base.

I’ve been a proponent of IQ tests for federal candidates and voters in federal elections for years.

From me and my wife’s college days in the 70s the college learning from the 90s to present has dropped badly. AOC shows it and it is clear that she has been passed through courses by left leaning Professors instead of learning.

In her Congressional role she should be also learning more of what the country is doing with other countries, and how global vs our country laws act. This seems to be lost on her or she is just following what the Democrat script says to do and follows along like a puppet.

stevie in reply to JG. | February 24, 2026 at 9:18 am

I once read that AOC was selected while still in high school to be groomed for political positions due to her Hispanic background.

AOC concept of “foreign policy” is to bash trump in front of foreign audience.

I hope she keeps it up through the midterms.

Lesson learned, Never leave your script in the ladies’ room. Lesson planned, Have a script.

She has much to learn. Answering a question is overrated it just leads to more pestering my reporters. Best to stop those annoying midget brained scribblers in their tracks. Does not matter if they “like” you, duty calls. How does one avoid answering questions when asked a direct one? Simple.
Reporter asks the question.
A.O.C. “Could you repeat the question?”
Question is asked again.
A.O.C. “Are you asking whether “(repeats reporters question back to her.)
Reporter responds in the positive.
A.O.C. “That is a very important question. Could you clarify what you mean by “should”?
Reporter remarks the meaning should be clear.
A.O.C. “Perhaps we need to come back to this at another time when you have a better idea of what you want to know.”
The end.

The issue is clearly that she’s retarded.

JRaeL in reply to Ironclaw. | February 23, 2026 at 2:21 pm

The “Association of Retarded Citizens.” would like a word with you.

The Real Truth in reply to Ironclaw. | February 24, 2026 at 5:38 pm

No, she is not “Retarded”, but her level of intelligence is definitely below average. I cannot understand how this woman graduated from Boston University Cum Laude. In fact, I don’t understand how she graduated from the University at all !

Ask yourself this – could YOU give a better extemporaneous answer into the mirror? The answer for most intelligent people is “yes”. Most of us could do a lot better.

“If you think I do not understand foreign policy…. the issue is YOU”
Ah… Projection — thy name is AWFL.

“Global democracies are on fire the world over, and established parties are falling to right-wing populist movements.”
And that’s precisely because the opposition is populated by hopeless leftards like you, Starmer, Merz, Macron, and Sanchez, Keep it up, girl!

She’s been spotted sparring with a personal trainer at a gym in LIC. Maybe we’ll all get to see her box at the SOTU.

The Democrat Media Complex, its media minions, and foreign actors raised and Dementia Joe to POTUS…never doubt that they can crown her, either…unless we are diligent and start putting serious protections on our elections.

OnTheLeftCoast | February 23, 2026 at 8:32 pm

She’s got the drunk and stupid parts down cold, but she probably won’t hit the trifecta since there are drugs for the fat part now.

Fox News hosts just TORCHED AOC for her total meltdown on a simple China/Taiwan policy question at Munich, she couldn’t give a straight answer on committing U.S. troops to defend Taiwan from invasion!

Trump won’t give you a straight answer on that one either. Nor would any of his predecessors, or any serious candidate. Not because he doesn’t have an answer but because US policy for decades has been not to answer that question.

But her response wasn’t the “That’s for me to know and you to find out”. She didn’t even pause to think, which would have been totally acceptable. She was just babbling.

Honestly the “right” answer is the one every politician of even average intelligence gives and knows the question will come up and has prepared for and practiced it. Strategic ambiguity. If you wanted to be ballsy and support freedom you could say Taiwan is a democracy and we will respond if they ask for help. Put strategic ambiguity has been the standard answer for as long as I can remember. You really have to be stupid person not to know this as just an average person, and a very stupid person not to know this if you’re running for Office.

AOC is not the problem, she is a symptom. The real problem is that a substantial portion of voters are just as stupid as she is, and will believe whatever the media and their progressive influencers tell them. Sociopaths and ideologues of various persuasions are always eager to exploit this for their own pursuits of increased wealth or power. The attractive idiots who have managed to gain fawning media exposure will thus always have a following, and that is why it doesn’t matter how stupid AOC and Newsom appear to us, they are truly representative of the political realities we will always face.

When it comes to presidential politics, the only thing this horse toothed communist fool is qualified for is to mix drinks for the attendees at the at the democrat national convention.

What charisma? Unlike some men (some conservative men even) I also do not think she is particularly good looking. Unless you are turned on by teeth that make a barracuda look like Snoopy.
