House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries went off on DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, and it went as well as you can imagine:
She should have never been confirmed. Shame on every Republican in the Senate who put this wildly unqualified person into a position of significance, the Department of Homeland Security, so she could unleash brutalization on everyday Americans, American citizens, and law abiding immigrant families. It’s disgraceful.
She’s got to go. We are dead serious.
She needs to be put on ice permanently.

I want to believe that Jeffries used “ice” as a play on words since the hoopla nowadays centers around Immigration and Customs Enforcement, aka ICE.

Do you remember idioms? People use them every day! It’s an expression that has a different meaning from its literal meaning.
Bark up the wrong tree. No pain, no gain. Hit the road.
Those are idioms.
“Put on ice” is also an idiom, which means to delay, stop, or postpone something or an activity.
Or, I guess, to stop someone from a certain action or job, even though I’ve never heard anyone using the person as a subject for the idiom “to put on ice.”
But man…Jeffries fell flat because ice is also a symbol of death.
There’s the slang “to ice someone” or “icing” someone, which means to murder someone.
Language matters more today because we live in a hot political atmosphere.
I know these politicians want sound bites to get on TV or even to sound cool and hip.
But, um, let’s think before we speak…or share photos. Right, Dick Durbin?

‘Putting someone on ice’ means you want them dead, the bodies used to be ‘put on ice’ to temporarily preserve them/delay decomposition. In contrast saying ‘keep that on ice’ means a temporary delay.

And in Brandenburg the Supreme Court drew a very bright line, and made it as clear as clear can be that anything short of that line is “mere advocacy” and is thus entitled to the highest level of protection.
To count as incitement, and therefore to lose its protection, speech must not only be subjectively intended to cause someone to commit a crime, it must be intended to have that effect imminently, and it must also be objectively likely to have that effect imminently. Those are three separate elements, while § 373 fulfills only the first. Therefore § 373 is unconstitutional as applied to any case that doesn’t fit the criteria, and cannot be enforced.

I’m still working on my knowledge and understanding of the English language, but according to a recent Oxford English dictionary test of my knowledge of the English language I have a 38,500 word vocabulary compared with a 15,000 word vocabulary for the average college graduate. And I certainly understand what ‘putting someone on ice’ means, which is, and only is, to kill that person. The meaning of putting some thing on ice, when not referring to a person, is ‘to postpone acting on something’ , but that is never the meaning of putting a person on ice, which can only mean to kill that person so that only refrigeration will prevent rapid decay.
